Totally Not Starscream Is The Best Totally Not Transformers Figure

Don’t get me wrong; I like a lot of Taka Tomy’s Transformers figures. The recent TF: The Movie line managed to capture both the robot and vehicle modes of many classic characters well, but the cartoon has some icons that the company rarely gets right.
One of those is Starscream, the G1 version. If you’ve owned any of his previous Masterpiece incarnations, you know what I’m talking about. The expensive but intricate figures of the sniveling Decepticon often sacrifice form for functionality. Watch some of JobbytheHong‘s videos to see exactly what we Starscream fans have to deal with.
If you’re gonna pay a premium price, a premium product should be delivered. That’s where Newage comes in. The company’s line of “TOTALLY NOT TRANSFORMERS” managed to capture the well-known look of several characters but retain the robot and vehicle mode sleekness … all at under 4″ tall.
Yup. There’s the rub. These things are tiny. They’re not Masterpiece or Leadership sized, but more along the lines of Super7’s ReAction figures or the recent Core figures.
Regardless, at 3.77″ tall, this NA H13C Lucifer (not Starscream at all) packs a bunch of detail in. Well, that kind of craftsmanship should be expected when this little guy will cost you $84.99! I spotted him while randomly browsing the Big Bad Toy Store. “Lucifer” is just the latest in the line, though. Newage has tackled several familiar NOT Autobots and Decepticons already.

This isn’t to say the others in this line don’t look great; they do. However, given this character hasn’t had the best toys in recent years, I was just taken aback by how refreshing this off-brand robot looked. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case with many unofficial Transformers toys. These companies manage to do what Hasbro and Takar Tomy can’t for whatever reason.

What do you think of this? Great unofficial innovation or bad comedy? Let us know in the comments section.

Prepare For Next Christmas With This Blacklight Emmet Otter Poster

0

Are you looking to get a jump start on this year’s Christmas decorating? Well, there’s nothing more Christmasy than Jim Henson’s feel-good holiday favorite Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas. But maybe you want a little bit of an edge to the decor? Oh, we know what you need.
They take what they want. They do anything that they wish. So it’s The Nightmare band from River Bottom! They’re here to ensure that Emmet Otter doesn’t win the Waterville talent contest. To celebrate their (short-lived) victory over the kindly Otter and his Ma, we have this awesome blacklight poster from Plastic Meatball.
The $65 poster of The Nightmare’s bandmembers has the ’70s Muppets vibe to it. It is a ‘C’ sized print (18″x24″) screen-printed. This thing is limited to only 77 prints. Each member of the villainous band is present: Stanley Weasel, Chuck Stoat, Howard Snake, Pop-Eyed Catfish, and Fred Lizard.
The artwork is by Dave Perillo. Click here to check out the artist’s other posters, from The Country Bears to Disney’s Robin Hood to Batman and Thundercats. Good stuff!

Plastic Meatball

Straight from Jim Henson’s enduring classic “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas,” comes this 18″ x 24″ screen printed “gig” poster by artist Dave Perillo.
Capturing the hard-rocking attitude of the Riverbottom Nightmare Band with a distinctive 70’s retro flair (and referencing the special’s original December 4, 1977 premiere date), this 7-color, hand-printed, blacklight variant poster is a definite conversation starter.

The poster is a good blacklight work of art. Unfortunately, unless you’re hanging out in Spencer’s Gifts stores, these types of posters are not seen too often anymore. Now, if this thing came in a black velvet variant, I’d buy them all and have a very blacklighted Christmas 2022.

What do you think of this throwback from 1977? It makes me want a Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem poster, too. How about you?

‘Batman: The Knight’ To Reboot Batman’s Origins Again For DC Comics

0

Batman has had many representations of his origins throughout his years including Dennis O’Neil’s “The Man Who Falls,” Frank Miller’s “Year One,” Scott Snyder’s “Zero Year,’,” Geoff Johns’ “Earth One,” among several others.
DC Comics announced during their “Connect” event that they would be revisiting Batman’s early years for a reboot of Bruce Wayne’s transition into becoming the Caped Crusader with ‘Batman: The Knight.’ Comic book writer Chip Zdarsky will be working with artist Carmine Di Giandomenico to bring the comic book to fruition.
DC Universe describes the synopsis as follows, “The origin of Batman and his never-ending fight against crime in Gotham City is modern mythology, but what of the story in between? How did an angry, damaged young man grow into the most accomplished detective and crime-fighter the world has ever known? How did the Dark Knight…begin?”
They add that the story “will take Bruce Wayne on a fraught journey, making allies and enemies, on his training to become Batman in this definitive new series!”

“There have been a lot of stories over the decades that dip into these years of Bruce traveling the world, but never one large, overarching story. So the fun of this has been incorporating previous tales with new adventures and showing the building toward Batman over time. It’s about Bruce’s youthful hubris, his developing confidence in his abilities, and most importantly him figuring out with he wants to do with it all,” Zdarsky told CBR.
“It’s not only the story of Bruce Wayne finding himself in the world, it’s also the story of his friendship with Ghost-Maker and a cast of old and new characters — some of who can come back to haunt him as Batman. I think readers are going to dig it,” he added.
‘Batman: The Knight’ is set to be released on January 18, 2022.

‘My Isekai Life’ Anime Gets A Teaser Trailer

0

‘My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World’ is a science fiction isekai novel series written by Japanese author Shinkoshoto published by Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was later picked up by Square Enix for a light novel and manga series. It was recently announced that the Tokyo animation production company Revoroot was picking it up for an anime simply titled ‘My Isekai Life,’ releasing a trailer to highlight the upcoming show.

Funimation said on their blog, “Bursting with devilish personality, the adorable little army of slimes also has a stack of voice actors to match: Hikaru Tohno (SHOW BY ROCK!! Mashumairesh!!) as Slime, Mai Kanno (Idoly Pride) as Patch Slime, Haruna Mikawa (Pokémon Evolutions) as Eyebrow Slime, Erisa Kuon (The Promised Neverland) as Leaf Slime, Nichika Omori (Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It) as Moustache Slime, and Miharu Hanai (Selection Project) as Cross Slime.”
“Also on the cast list as Yuji’s companions are Azumi Waki (I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level) as Dryad and Wataru Takagi (Case Closed) as Proudwolf,” they continued. “Based on the light novels by Shinkoshoto and Huuka Kazabana, My Isekai Life is being directed by Keisuke Kojima (BABYLON assistant director), who’s also designing the characters, at studio REVOROOT, with series composition by Naohiro Fukushima (I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level scriptwriter) and music by Gin (SUPER HXEROS).”
MyAnimeList describes the plot as follows, “Yuuji Sano, a regular company employee, is summoned to another world while finishing his work at home. His profession in the other world, a Monster Tamer, is considered a job that makes it difficult to become an adventurer. However, thanks to some slimes he met, which read several magical books, he gained magical powers and a second profession, Sage. Yuuji acquired overwhelming power, but is he conscious of his strength? Blindly becoming unparalleled and strongest in the world!”
While the anime is set to debut in 2022, no set date has been confirmed for an official release.

Adventures of the Man in Black: The Johnny Cash Action Figure Is Here!

Johnny Cash is the epitome of the American singer/songwriter. For nearly fifty years, Cash entertained people from all walks of life with his combination of energetic and melancholy songs. His love, patriotism, and redemption lyrics cemented his place as a legendary musician.
Now the Hall of Famer has a retro-styled action figure from Super7. The ReAction figure, styled after the toys of the 1980s, catches the singer’s likeness surprisingly well. This 3.75″ tall representation of The Man In Black is $18 and comes with a guitar. The blister card is a work of art featuring the man himself.

Super7
Super7

Super7’s latest ReAction figure pays tribute to The Man in Black, who’s relatively stripped-down, no-nonsense musical style entertained and inspired just about anyone who had the chance to hear it. Johnny Cash performed for prisoners and Presidents alike, and left an indelible impression on America and its music.

Cash isn’t the first music icon to get an action figure in Super7’s ReAction line. Click here to see the company’s line of music action figures. Here’s a rundown of some of the artists and characters you can find:

  • Grateful Dead’s Dancing Bears
  • Grateful Dead’s Bertha
  • Misfits’ Fiend
  • Rancid’s Skeletim
  • Notorious B.I.G.
  • Motorhead’s Lemmy
  • Iron Maiden’s Eddie
  • King Diamond
  • Ghost’s Papa Emeritus II
  • Slayer
  • Anthrax’s Among The Living Demon
  • Misfits’ Jerry Only

Now, can we get a Jerry Lee Lewis figure with a piano? Cousin to marry sold separately, of course. Where’s Ozzy? Of all the figures in music that deserve an action figure, that madman needs another one. He has had so many looks over his career. The potential for variants is neverending.

I’m surprised Elvis hasn’t been in the ReAction series yet. I’ve seen the King’s mug plastered all over everything; why not more action figures? What do you think of action figures being made of deceased celebrities? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Do you have fond memories of the Where’s Waldo books? They were at one point required reading at my school in the early 1990s. Weird, considering you didn’t do much reading when it came to Waldo. I have a feeling that some school boards got kickbacks if they had these books in the curriculum. What do you think?

The Mechanical Steed Stridor Joins Masters of the Universe Origins

The heroic armored war horse, Stridor, is the latest figure/vehicle to make its way into Mattel’s revived Masters of the Universe toyline. Based on the classic figure from the 1980s, Stridor is ready to usher the heroes of Eternia into battle against Skeletor or the Evil Horde.
Like the Wind Raider and Sky Sled, Stridor retains many of his retro stylings while being updated with blast effects and a posing base. The Origins line of vehicles maintains the right amount of sturdiness while making some of the more delicate pieces flexible enough to withstand playtime, unlike their 1980s counterparts. Stridor appears to be no different.
The mechanical steed should be in stores this month, but if you’re having trouble finding him, head on over to the Big Bad Toy Store and scoop up the toy for $35.99.

Mattel
Mattel
  • Standing 7 in tall and 10.5 in long, Stridor™ figure features 19 points of articulation for extreme poses during action storytelling or epic display — use joints in the legs, neck, tail, and mouth!
  • The robot horse features 2 launchers for the 3 included plasma blasters to help take down the enemy!
  • A helmet and bridle with real rope prepare the figure for battle with He-Man™ and the Heroic Warriors!
  • A stand can make poses even more dynamic — connect it to the Masters of the Universe™ Castle Grayskull™ playset (sold separately) for larger display!

I hope the rumors that Origins has been canceled are false. There are still so many classic vehicles and playsets to revisit. We need Snake Mountain (not the $500 one)! Where is the Dragon Walker?! What about an Attak Trak?! Come on!
My kid loves these toys. She had She-Ra run over all of Skeletor’s henchmen on Christmas Eve! It was a proud parenting moment.

What playsets and vehicles should Mattel revive next for the Origins line? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Alienware Wants To Make Streaming Easier and Homebased

Have you tried cloud gaming? Or simply streaming from your XBOX or Playstation while in another room? It’s hit or miss. Even with line-of-sight to my equipment, lag and latency issues always arise. Well, Alienware wants to mitigate those issues by introducing an in-house solution for all your existing video games.
PC Mag published an article detailing their hands-on, albeit limited, experience with Alienware’s ‘Concept NYX’ home server at CES 2022. This vast black box ran multiple games on multiple screens, sometimes numerous games on the same screen. It’s a handy device if you live with many gamers and you all want to store your titles on the same piece of hardware.
As stated, it’s a server. One specifically designed for home use and the users’ existing libraries of games. Concept NYX isn’t exactly a new concept to anyone who has housed a network server in their home before. However, Alienware and Dell are trying to make this an all-in-one solution that can appeal to the average gamer.

PC MAG (Molly Flores)
The server itself looks like a non-descript PC but larger and with a severe lack of airflow if the display model is anything to go by. Dell and Alienware PCs are notorious for their lack of ventilation, leading to eyebrow-raising thermals. Since the specs of the NYX were not available, this could be a mockup, far from the finished version.
From the PC Mag article, this is a home solution and a home solution only. Gaming on the go was not mentioned. Regardless of the server’s processing power, you’d still be at the mercy of your ISP when trying to play Security Breach on your iPhone in the toilet at work through a firewall.
The allure of the NYX isn’t there for me. I have a TV in nearly every bedroom with some streaming stick or device attached. How often will someone find themselves needing to play Cyberpunk or Fallout New Vegas while in the kitchen or dining room?
Considering the premium, Dell loves to slap on Alienware tech while also managing to underdeliver what indie shops can provide for less money makes this thing sound DOA if it ever arrives.
