Lay The Smack Down On The Queen With This Power Loader & Ripley Model

Ripley’s battle with the xenomorph queen is sheet excellence on many different levels. From the special effects to the sheer size of these battling mothers, it’s hard not to put this in any Top 10 list of epic sci-fi battles.
Over the years, various companies have released models of the power loaded both with and without Ellen Ripley. Finally, the Good Smile Company is adding both to its Moderoid line of models. For $97.99 at the Big Bad Toy Store, you get a 1/12th scale of the last survivor of the Nostromo and the P-5000 Power Work Loader from Caterpillar, Inc. The kit is set for release in August 2022.

The hydraulic cylinders extend and retract in conjunction with the model’s arm and leg parts. Using an internal gear system, the claws can also be opened and closed. The wiring cables have been recreated with soft tube material.
A plastic model kit of Ellen Ripley herself is included so you can display her in the Power Loader! Ripley is also articulated, making it easy to display her moving in tandem with the power loader. Water-slide decals to recreate the markings of the machine are also included.

The model kit will have water slide decals. I’ve checked out other Moderoid models, and some of them appear to come pre-painted, but weathering is up to the person building the model. I hope Ripley is fully painted. Assembling models is something I do every week, but I wouldn’t say I like painting faces and eyes; I never got good at it.

What do you think of this power loader model? If it doesn’t come pre-painted, would you still buy it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Jean Grey Tries To Contain The Phoenix In This Massive Statue

0

Sideshow Collectibles is producing a rather large statue featuring Jean Grey and the personification of the Phoenix Force. I’m not kidding. This thing is over 2′ tall and about 20″ wide. Even at this scale, the statue is priced more sensibly than others we’ve covered recently. Phoenix and Jean Grey will run you $980. The statue will ship sometime in the second quarter of 2023.

The polystone Phoenix and Jean Grey Maquette features two fully sculpted figures in the fiery environment base that embodies the duality of creation and destruction. Jean Grey is dressed in her classic blue and yellow ‘90s costume while her Phoenix incarnation wears her distinct green and black bodysuit. Both costumes feature detailed textures and gold metallic accents, bringing these signature styles to life in three dimensions. Two sides of the same coin, the Phoenix and Jean Grey Maquette is a must-have Marvel statue for X-Men fans.

I like the small upgrades the design team did to Jean’s outfit. Putting her in an outfit that wasn’t canonical to the era in which this storyline took place was probably to create a larger contrast between her and the Dark Phoenix. It’s a welcomed change, but I can see purists getting mad.
Jean Grey and the entity known as The Phoenix made the X-MEN comics way more interesting decades ago. In the ’80s and ’90s, it felt like the mutant comic books were the place to try out weird and dark subject matter for MARVEL. Too bad a lot of that stuff didn’t translate well to live-action. The less we say about the last Dark Phoenix, the better. Ugh.
Maybe the upcoming revived X-MEN cartoon on Disney+ will readdress the storyline and the years of fallout it caused Xavier’s students. But odds are the people in charge will turn it into some device for their thinly veiled activism.
What do you think of this latest statue from Sideshow Collectibles? Let us know in the comments section below.

Marin, who has wanted to cosplay for a while and has observed Wakana’s skill in sewing, asks him to create the costume of a character from a video game that she adores. Despite the fact that Wakana had no experience making a costume on a human scale, he was inspired by Marin’s tenacity and agreed to make one for her.”

To contain the violence, the government of Neo-Tokyo implements the “XB Law,” stating that all future conflicts between Tribes will be settled through games of “Extreme Baseball,” overseen by robotic umpires. The games are similar to baseball except there are fewer restrictions on equipment, the “field” can be as big as an entire ward, and the only ways to get an Out require striking out the batter or knocking out a baserunner while holding the ball. Games can also end if the opposing pitcher is rendered unconscious during the game.”
Marissa Lenti will serve as the ADR Director with Mike Haimoto serving as Assistant ADR Director.

Robert Valley’s Animated Short is Now Available to Watch For Free

0

A 2016 animated Short has finally been released from all distribution deals it previously held with Passion Pictures in London. The director Robert Valley uploaded the entire short on his youtube channel, along with an extended commentary video on January 16th of this year. The animated half hour short, Pear Cider and Cigarettes, is based on the graphic novel series of the same name. It is a story about Valley’s childhood friend and how their lives intertwined as they grew older.

The summary is as follows:

“Drink and smoke…that’s what Techno really like to do…and fight. He was in no condition to fight. He was sick, really sick. His disease had whittled him down to a shadow of his former self. He was crippled from a car accident when he was 17 but that’s not how he lost his big toe. He lost that in a motorbike accident, yeah he was broken alright… what the hell was he fighting for anyway and what was he still doing in China? His father had given me two clear instructions: 1. Get Techno to stop drinking long enough to receive the liver transplant and 2. Get him back home to Vancouver. This wasn’t going to be easy.”

Of course, Tecnno Stypes is not his real name. Valley was adamant about having the freedom and control over his own personal story. Over the course of a half of a decade, Valley financed and produced all of the artwork and animation as the lone crew member on the production of his film.

“I wanted to do it by myself. I was afraid that anyone who was going to invest money in my film probably wanted to tell me what they think.” He credited an on-going gig at Laika with giving him “enough work to pay the rent, but not so much that I couldn’t get my film done.”

With over 20 years of experience, Robert Valley has worked on animated projects and shows such as 1995’s Aeon Flux animated series, TRON: Uprising, a Metallica music video, several Gorillaz music videos, and most recently Love, Death, & Robots.

The bassist from Metallica along with musician Anitek helped to provide music for the short. Valley had done two separate Kickstarters in 2016. The first one was to complete the second volume of his graphic novel. The second Kickstarter was to complete the animated short, which, by then, was pretty much finished except for the addition of the music, sound mixing, and finishing touches.

All of the artwork for the graphic novels and all of the animation for the short was done in Photoshop.

The animation has very mature content, for an R rating of adult themes and violence.

One fateful day, Eiji contends with Dusk—a mafia syndicate—alongside Yamato Kai, a boy he recently met. Amid the chaos, Yamato blocks a sniper bullet heading toward Eiji, but the shot still strikes his tattoo despite Yamato’s efforts. To save the injured Yamato, Eiji passes the tattoo onto him, entrusting him with protecting the Akatsuki Special Ward in his sacrifice.
As the ward continues to collapse under conflict, will Yamato be able to use his newfound Scard powers to protect his loved ones, or will he falter trying to become the new Hero of Akatsuki?”

Marvel Comics Brings Back Chip Zdarsky And Marco Checchetto For Daredevil

0

Marvel Comics is bringing Matt Murdock back to basics by bringing back writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto to Daredevil for the relaunch following ‘Devil’s Reign’ and ‘Woman Without Fear.’
“Writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto will be continuing their Eisner-nominated run on DAREDEVIL this June. Known for their transformative work on the saga of Matt Murdock, Elektra, Kingpin and more, the superstar creative team will turn their gaze to a future full of peril and pain, in this explosive beginning of an all new era for Hell’s Kitchen’s guardian devil. After the shocking events of DEVIL’S REIGN, what is left of Daredevil,” Marvel Universe reports.
They continue, “Who lived, who died, and who is left to pick up the pieces? Fans can expect the series to tackle both Matt AND Elektra’s journeys as they deal with the brutal cost of taking on the Daredevil mantle. With new enemies and radical changes to the fabric of Daredevil’s mythos, DAREDEVIL #1 is set to usher in the darkest Hell’s Kitchen to date.”
Zdarsky and Checchetto previously teamed up for the Daredevil story-arcs “Know Fear,” “Through Hell,” “End of Hell,” and several others between 2019 and 2021.
Zdarsky expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Getting to write Daredevil and work with Marco is a career highlight. I’m just genuinely excited that we get to continue our epic story with this new issue one!”
“Matt and Elektra have confronted their past mistakes with DEVIL’S REIGN and WOMAN WITHOUT FEAR, but can they atone for them together,” he continued. “This is the start of our fourth year on the title! And the plan for it is about as big a swing as we could possibly take. I’m super excited for readers to see where we’re taking our Daredevils!”
Checcetto said, “It’s the first time that I’ve to draw the first issue of the same series twice. I could tell you it’s an issue like everyone else, now, but it’s not.”
He added, “Each time I’ve to draw a new script of Daredevil it’s a new experience. Chip keeps throwing at me new challenges and I’m not the type of artist to refuse them. How much more can we mess up with Matt Murdock’s life? Let’s see with this new DAREDEVIL #1.”
They also released a look at the first issue for this relaunch:

Sam Raimi Praises ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

0

‘The Evil Dead’ director Sam Raimi is well-known among comic book fans and movie audiences as the man who brought Peter Parker to life with the ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. Raimi is currently working on ‘Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ and during an interview with Vanity Fair, he shared his thoughts on the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ which saw Maguire join current Spidey Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield.
“It was so much fun,” he told them. “I love No Way Home and the audience I was with went crazy. It was delightful to watch Alfred play his role, and Willem Dafoe, just seeing these guys take it to the next level. And Tobey was awesome as always. The best word I can say is it was refreshing for me.”
This was the second time Raimi had praised the latest Spidey film, celebrating the return of Alfred Molina as the villainous Doctor Octopus.
“That was beautiful,” Raimi told SyFy. “He looks great, the animation’s great. I’m assuming it’s not puppeted because when we did Doc Ock, we had puppets and animation for his octopus tentacles. But it was smooth and powerful and I loved his costume they kept [from the original]. I think it’s gonna be a great movie.”
‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has been well-received by critics and audiences alike with the film skyrocketing to the top of the box office, blowing out rivals like ‘The Matrix Resurrections.’ The movie has even breached the top ten best box office performances.
Pirates and Princesses reports, “SONY’s Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to defy the COVID-19 Lockdowns/Restrictions as the film breaks records and becomes the sixth highest-grossing film of all time. It has passed the 2019 remake of The Lion King and the 2015 reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World and knocked 2019’s Frozen II out of the Top Ten. The film has so far accumulated $721+ Million domestically and $970.1 Million internationally, making a total of $1.69 Billion.”
While Tom Holland will remain in the MCU, Sony Pictures will continue their own Spider-Man Universe with ‘Venom’ sequels and ‘Morbius.’
