CAD Files For Valve’s ‘Steam Deck’ Are Now Available!

Have you reserved your Valve Steam Deck yet? The $399 portable gaming console will allow you to take your Steam library on the go, mostly. The problem? It comes in a boring dark gray or gunmetal gray color. I prefer my portable gaming units to be multicolored, so I look like a genuine jerk out in public.
Luckily for those of us with 3D printers, Valve has released the CAD files needed to create our own custom cases for the Steam Deck. PC Mag revealed that the STL and STP files for the Steam Deck are now available for download on GitLab.

Valve
STL and STP formats are typically used in 3D printing. I’ve typically used STL for 3D printing with ABS and PLC. If you’re looking to take a crack at these files and modify them for your Steam Deck, check out Autodesk.com and get a trial of AutoCAD or Fusion 360 from Autodesk.
Valve has openly encouraged modders to open up the system, and these files allow us to make even further changes to the Steam Deck. However, Valve does have some words of warning:

“You have every right to open up your Steam Deck and do what you want with it. That said, we highly recommend you leave it to professionals. Any damage you do will not be covered by your warranty – but more importantly, you might break your Steam Deck, or even get hurt! Be careful, and have fun.”

Last year Valve published a teardown video of the Steam Deck, showing us the proper way to disassemble the unit without causing unnecessary damage. So it would appear while the parts are easily accessible, not everything is a simple swap out of aftermarket parts.

What do you think of Valve getting into the mobile gaming market? Let us know in the comments section below.

DC Comics Unveils Free Comic Book Day 2022 Titles

0

Saturday, May 7, 2022, is a day when fans everywhere celebrate. It is the unofficial holiday Free Comic Book Day where several companies drop some free issues to your local comic shop. Usually, they are reprints of popular issues or teasers for upcoming events. For DC Comics, they are bringing a “special edition,” previews, and a promo for an upcoming animated film.
Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition is written by Joshua Williamson with illustrations from Daniel Sampere.
DC Universe describes it as, “The Justice League is comics’ greatest super-team—made up of DC Comics’ legendary Super Heroes, they have saved the world countless times. No crisis was too much for them to handle…until now! The Justice League has been defeated by the Great Darkness and its army of DC’s most dangerous enemies—now a new generation of Super Heroes must rise to protect not only the Multiverse…but also the legacy of the DCU!”
Galaxy: The Prettiest Star written by Jadzia Axelrod with art by Jess Taylor is a title geared for teens that will be released in a complete graphic novel form, but will receive a preview for Free Comics Day.
“Every day in Taylor Barzelay’s life might seem perfect—but every day is torture. Taylor is actually the Galaxy Crowned, an alien princess from the planet Cyandii, and one of the few survivors of an intergalactic war. For six long, painful years, Taylor has accepted her duty to remain in hiding as a boy on Earth. But that all changes when Taylor meets Metropolis girl Katherine ‘call me Kat’ Silverberg, whose confidence is electrifying. Suddenly, Taylor no longer wants to hide, even if exposing her true identity could attract her greatest enemies,” DC explains.
For the kids, writer Heath Corson and artist by Bobby Timony bring us DC League of Super-Pets: The Great Mxy-Up, a tie-in to the upcoming film starring Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.
“There is nothing the Super-Pets love more than spending time with their heroes, but are finding it difficult to be taken seriously as members of the team when their humans just don’t understand them,” DC Comics said. “But when Mr. Mxyzptlk (a magical imp from the fifth dimension) arrives in Metropolis with a plan to wreak a little chaos and destruction, the Justice League are caught in his trap! The Super-Pets will need to come up with a plan to prevent Mxy’s mischief from destroying the city—while somehow trying to rescue their human counterparts. The only problem is, they may need to recruit their greatest enemy in order to defeat him.”
They also released a “first look” at the cover for each issue:

‘Gekidol’ Anime Is Getting An English Dub

0

‘Gekido Alive’ is a manga series written by Kazuya Hatazawa and illustrated by Asami Sekiya. It was serialized by the Japanese publishing company ASCII Media Works through their ‘Dengeki Maoh’ since 2016. Its popularity led to an OVA and finally, a full anime adaption from Hoods Entertainment titled ‘Gekidol,’ directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi. Funimation announced that they had acquired the license for an English adaption.
“Get ready to experience Gekidol‘s post-apocalyptic world of 3D hologram entertainment all over again (or for the first time!), with a full English dub, which’ll bring all 12 episodes and the Alice in Deadly School OVA,” Funimation said on their website. “Taking the spotlight is Macy Anne Johnson (SHOW BY ROCK!! Mashumairesh!!) as Seria Morino, who accepts an invitation to the Alice in Theater troupe to pursue her dream of performing on stage…”
The rest of the cast includes Madeleine Morris, Caitlin Glass, Marissa Lenti, Dani Chambers, Emily Fajardo, Apphia Yu, Stephanie Sheh, Kaiji Tang, Kira Buckland, and Jamie Marchi.
You can watch the trailer below:

MyAnimeList describes the plot synopsis as follows:
“Five years ago, a mysterious phenomenon known as the Global Synchronic Urban Disappearance caused a large chunk of Ikebukuro to disappear overnight. Following the catastrophe, the inhabitants found themselves thrown into a state of disorder, and unexplained electromagnetic anomalies called “Auroras” began to be sighted.
Awed by the performance of idol Izumi Hinazaki at a play utilizing the “Super Material Theater,” a stage designed to revitalize Ikebukuro through hologram-enhanced plays, high school student Seria Morino is inspired to become an idol. Shortly afterward, she is scouted by a young woman named Kaoru Sakakibara, who turns out to be the director of Alice in Theater—the troupe that Izumi used to be a part of.
Aiming to pursue her dreams, Seria decides to follow Kaoru and joins Alice in Theater. Upon arriving at their establishment, she is cordially welcomed by a group of young and friendly girls who are all very passionate about acting. However, something seems to be amiss…”
Emi Lo will serve as the ADR Director for ‘Gekidol.’

The Batman’s Batarang Can Now Be Yours From Factory Entertainment

0

The Batman will officially hit theatres soon, and you can attend the premiere while brandishing this official batarang replica from Factory Entertainment. The replica is made from metal and comes with a display case and plaque.
Oh, it comes out during the Summer of 2022. Well, so much for my fantasy of going to a theatre dressed as Batman and throwing a batarang at the first jackass who takes a phone call during the movie. Maybe when the inevitable sequel comes out in 2024.
The batarang is $299.99 and can be pre-ordered with a one-time transaction or a payment plan spread over three payments.

We’re thrilled to be adding to our wide range of high-end movie prop replicas with a line of limited-edition replicas from the highly anticipated Warner Bros. and DC motion picture, The Batman. The first release, which is now available to pre-order, is the Batarang™. Our product developers were provided with digital assets of the Batarang™ prop directly from the production team of The Batman.
This allowed us to produce a full-size, screen-accurate metal replica featuring all of the fine detail of the original prop. Each replica features a hand-weathered finish replicating the on-screen appearance of the prop. To enhance and exhibit the beauty of the replica, we’ve included a museum quality presentation box with a piano-black finish and acrylic window, allowing collectors to showcase this exquisite piece to maximum effect.
Also included is a metal plaque with the unique limited-edition number and a certificate of authenticity. The Batarang™ is an essential piece of The Dark Knight’s arsenal, and we thought this would be the perfect prop replica to start with. We’re also well into development of full-size replicas of The Batman’s cowl and his grapple launcher, and fans can expect further announcements on those, along with offerings in our other collectibles lines, very soon.

Sometimes Factory Entertainment struggles with is giving customers a full grasp of what these replicas can do. Based on the images I’ve seen of The Batman‘s batsuit, the batarang has a hinge in the middle. However, FE doesn’t mention if this replica has any mechanical capabilities. Does it fold or move in any way, or is this a $299 static prop?

Want a romantic vampire movie that’s not full of pretentious costumed drama or Anne Rice ripoffs? Then you should check out Bite Me. It’s a romantic comedy about vampires in the modern day. No frilly lace and bad accents here!
Naomi Grossman of Ctrl Alt Delete and American Horror Story joined me today to talk about her role in the recently released Bite Me. The film is a joint venture directed by filmmakers Meredith Edwards and Naomi McDougall Jones. Edwards, whose directorial debuted was a project called Imagine I’m Beautiful, captured several film festival awards for the filmmaker.

We’d like to thank Naomi for taking to time to speak to us about this film and also American Horror Story. Bite Me is now available for digital download at Amazon and iTunes.
October Coast

Synopsis:

When Sarah, a real-life vampire, gets audited by the IRS, the last thing she expects to get out of it is a date. But James, her hopelessly romantic IRS agent, thinks she’s other-worldly. As an unlikely attraction sparks between the two misfits, they are forced to confront whether they have the courage to commit the terrifying, radical act of falling in love.
Award-winning Director Meredith Edwards, says of the film:“In this uncertain and emotionally challenging time, I want people to leave Bite Me feeling empowered by the magic of love, laughter, and community; to leave with more joy, optimism and hope. Bite Me teaches us that acceptance for ourselves and one another is made possible through love, and I believe we’re all in need of this message right now.”

NECA’s Going Old School With This Batman Beyond Batarang Replica

Batman Beyond, the series that continued the story Batman The Animated Series canon, has been in a state of limbo for years. We never got a feature-length live-action version of the Batman of Neo Gotham. Luckily collectors still get a bone thrown their way sometimes to keep the brand recognition alive.
Figures.com showed off the box art and replica. Much like NECA’s other Batman replicas, this batarang isn’t just a static prop. Instead, this one lights up with the help of included batteries. There’s very little other info, but these NECA replicas tend to be very basic, which helps keep the price down.
Expect to find this, and other NECA Batman prop replicas to be in the collectibles section of your local Target this year. From my experience, these range in price between $15.99 to $29.99. It’s unknown if this item will only come in blue or if a red version is on the horizon.

If you’re looking for something that’s less toy-like, check out Ikon Design Studio’s Batman Beyond batarang. This replica is made of metal and has a display stand that connects to Ikon’s other replicas. We spotted this over at the Big Bad Toy Store.
This batarang comes with the traditional red wings and measures 5.9″ long. This collectible should be shipping during the first quarter of 2022 and is priced at $209.99.
Other batarangs from this studio include one from 2017’s Justice League and Batman (1989). Product photos also show off one from the Arkham video games, but I could not find a listing for that one yet.

Ikon Design Studio is proud to present the Batman Beyond Batarang Replica. From the 1999 animated series, Batman Beyond comes the most futuristic Batarang yet! Used by Terry McGinnis’ Batman in the year 2039, this red and black boomerang style Batarang was dispensed from the Batsuit’s gauntlets enabling for the quick takedown of some Neo-Gotham scum. Cast in solid metal, this life-size replica measures approximately 15cm wide.

Boba Fett’s Triumphant Return Is Captured In This Premium Format Figure

0

Like a bantha, Boba Fett was large and in charge when he rocketed back into action during the second season of The Mandalorian. His armor was worn from the Tattooine sun and sand, but it still fit … kind of.
OK, Fett didn’t look that great as far as how the costume fit, but Robert Rodriguez made sure Boba’s return to action was full of jetpack and violence in Chapter 14: The Tragedy. The temporary setup looks decent when looking at the whole ensemble in static form.
Sideshow Collectibles is producing a new Premium Format Figure based on Fett’s look in The Mandalorian. With gaffi stick, blaster, and jetpack in tow, this 22.38″ tall figure is going for $650. Boba Fett will be flying his thick self into homes between December 2022 and February 2023.

The Boba Fett Premium Format Figure is fully sculpted and features detailed paint application to recreate the weathered state of his salvaged armor. This polystone Star Wars statue includes both an unhelmeted and helmeted portrait, allowing you to unmask the infamous mercenary or complete his iconic look. Boba comes fully equipped for battle with his jetpack, a gaffi stick™, and a blaster pistol. Finally, with intricate cloth-like textures and dynamic motion designed into the pants and sash of his costume, Boba Fett is ready to join the fight in your collection.

The statue is made from polystone and ABS. Fett atop his base stands 22.38″ tall, 15″ wide, and 14″ deep. There are no fabric parts here, which is unexpected considering much of Fett’s outfit was made from cloth in this episode. It’s evident that everything is molded and a bit light on texturing. Maybe the finished product will look a bit more convincing.

Mendoza!!! Super7’s Giving The Simpsons’ McBain His Own Toyline!

Rainier Wolfcastle, the Simpsons’ version of the bodybuilder, movie star, and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally getting his own line of action figures. Wolfcastle is best known in the animated series as his action movie character McBain. Much like Arnold, Wolfcastle’s movie career is focused on extreme masculinity, violence, and a heavy Austrian accent.
You can now relive all of your favorite McBain moments with these new ReAction figures from Super7. We spotted these over at Figures.com. This initial wave of 3.75″ tall action figures with five points of articulation will consist of the following characters:

  • Scoey, all shot up and just days from retirement with a photo of his boat, the ‘Live-4-Ever’
  • McBain in his normal outfit and a hotlink
  • Commando McBain
  • Mendoza!!!!!!!! with a vial of Swank

The figures will be priced at the typical $18 apiece and should be available starting this week at Super7’s website. The two versions of McBain, Mendoza, and Scoey are already available for pre-order at Entertainment Earth. We also checked the Big Bad Toy Store, and they’re also taking pre-orders now.

Super7

Who should show up in McBain Wave 2? Nameless female character from the film’s conclusion? The poisoned salmon puff? Nameless Goon #3 from Scene 27? He’s my favorite!
On occasion, Super7 will produce retro-styled playsets. Maybe we can get the diner from the Scoey shooting scene. Now that the company is venturing into this territory with The Simpsons franchise, could we also get some ReAction figures based on The Critic?
Though short-lived, The Critic still lives on in meme form to this day. If nothing else, just give us the version of Jay who shows up in a couple of Simpsons episodes. Although, I’d totally buy Jay, Duke, Duke’s singing hillbilly bears, Franklin Sherman, El Kabong, the Easter Island people, and Alice.
What do you think of the McBain figures? Let us know in the comments section below.

Celebrate Ray Harryhausen’s 100th With This Beautiful Pegasus Statue

The Clash of the Titans is now 41 years old, and 102 years ago, special effects legend Ray Harryhausen was born. So, to celebrate these things, X-Plus is delivering a special edition statue of the film’s iconic Pegasus.
OK, it’s weird to celebrate 100 years of Harry two years after his 100th birthday. Maybe there were production delays, and putting 102 years on all the marketing stuff looks silly. Regardless, this statue is magnificent. The studio captured the slightly off look of the mythical creature in the film to perfection.
The Pegasus stands at 12.6″ tall and is made from polyresin. The material used for the wings isn’t mentioned in the listing at the Big Bad Toy Store, but they look like real feathers. The deluxe limited edition statue is priced at $369.99 and will be coming out in June of this year.
