Rosario Dawson Represents Ahsoka Tano’s New Premium Format Figure

A lone Jedi on the planet Corvus stands against a tyrannical Magistrate. Settlers fear for their lives, afraid to speak out or fight against the current “government.” It will take the efforts of both Ahsoka Tano and Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, to liberate the settlement.
This episode of The Mandalorian’s second season brought Ahsoka into the live-action realm of Star Wars. Rosario Dawson did a fine job portraying the Gray Jedi who was out to find what happened to Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Sideshow Collectibles is celebrating this interpretation of Tano with a Premium Format Figure. Ahsoka will be constructed from polystone and lots of tailored fabric. While both lightsabers are ignited, there is no light-up feature. Sculptor Matt Black managed to capture Dawson’s face perfectly. The level of detail on display here is impressive.
Ahsoka will stand 18.75″ tall and is priced at $635. The Premium Format Figure will arrive in our galaxy sometime between November 2022 and February 2023. Pre-orders are open now at Sideshow Collectibles.

The polystone Ahsoka Tano Premium Format Figure features a mixed media costume application. Her pleated pants and brown belt are carefully tailored fabric, featuring stitching, patterning, and beading to bring even the most subtle details to life. Additionally, Ahsoka Tano’s top, arm bands, gauntlets, and tabi boots are sculpted with a variety of textures and paint applications to mimic the appearance of armor, woven straps, and pinched cloth. Her signature orange complexion contrasts with the dark colors of her outfit, and her portrait bears her iconic white markings, as well as her unique blue and white lekku and montrals.

It will be interesting to see where Ahsoka Tano’s Disney+ series goes. We’ll finally have a live-action Thrawn, probably, but how many other remnants from the “Legends” books will be dug up by Disney? And is that a good thing?

This ‘Power of the Primes’ Figure Includes Optimus and Orion Pax!

Another year, another batch of classic Optimus Prime action figures from Hasbro. The latest line is called the Power of the Primes, a welcome departure from some of the recent Cybertron-related toys.
This Prime is based on the G1 version of Optimus. While many of us Transformers fans usually have several Primes, this one should be a “must buy” because not only does he transform into a truck, but hidden in the design is Orion Pax!
Pax is the Autobot who would eventually become Optimus Prime. This figure pulls triple duty, which explains the $69.99 price tag at the Big Bad Toy Store. The Leader Class figure stands at 9″ tall and will be out this May. From the pictures, it looks like Orion Pax fits entirely into the chest area of the Optimus figure. We even get a Matrix of Leadership, too.

The Autobots and Decepticons use Prime Masters to wield the incredible powers of the most legendary bots in the universe: the Primes. Prime Masters carry the spark of a Prime, allowing them to share a Prime’s godlike ability with other bots. Anything is possible and everything is at stake when the Power of the Primes is unleashed!
With the Matrix of Leadership, Orion Pax becomes leader of the Autobots: Optimus Prime.

Orion Pax has shown up from time to time in toy form but rarely looks like his original G1 form. The Power of the Primes finally solves that issue by giving us a design of Pax that is pretty close to how he appears in the story War Dawn. Check out the entire episode below.

Ninja Turtles ‘Classic’ Two-Packs Bring Nostalgia With Modern Designs

Playmates, please! My wallet can only take so much! First, you bring back the original ’80s TMNT toys, now these cartoon-inspired two-packs! Have mercy, you fiends!
Big Bad Toy Store is currently taking pre-orders for what Playmates calls TMNT Classic two-packs. Each box will contain a Ninja Turtle and an enemy based on the design of the 1980s cartoon series. No shirtless Shredder in this set, sorry.
The four sets include Donatello Vs. Shredder, Leonardo Vs. Rocksteady, Michelangelo Vs. Bebop, and Raphael Vs. Triceraton. All the figures stand at 6″ tall and have several points of articulation. Due out in May of this year, each two-pack will be priced at $49.99.

Let the fight for New York City begin with the TMNT Classic Vs. 2-Packs from Playmates! These ultra articulated 6-inch figures include weapon accessories and bases, and come packaged together in a collector-friendly window box.

I like that a few parts from the classic weapons runner made their way into the box with Shredder. Yes, even the silly-looking kama is included. But, to be honest, I think the only thing we used that weapon for as kids was a way to have our Turtle figures glide along a zipline.
The Triceraton feels like the odd one out in this series. We go from three of the original villains to an extraterrestrial. A Foot Soldier would have been too much of a rehash from the previous two-packs. But why not one of the rock guys from Dimension X?

The Original Playmates Ninja Turtle Toys Return! Party Wagon Included!

It’s weird being now that generation businesses pander to because we have, supposedly, disposable incomes. Growing up, I noticed that many places went hard on nostalgia for my parents. From Betty Boop to The Three Stooges to The Wizard of Oz, that merchandise was everywhere in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Now the focus has shifted to the Generation X and the Millenial crowd.
We’ve been seeing this in the toy market over the past two decades. Nearly every plaything from the ’80s and even the ’70s is back in fashion. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appear to be the chief culprit for using the nostalgia magnet to suck money outta our pockets. So now Playmates are trying extra hard by re-releasing the original Turtles figures and the Turtle Blimp and Party Wagon!
Big Bad Toy Store now has the four original Playmates Turtles in stock with today’s inflated prices. Each brother will set you back $19.99. They’re packaged on blister cards which almost replicate the originals. There are some noticeable differences, but you’d almost mistake them for the 1988 wave at first glance. Hell, even Raph is in the same packaged pose!
Donny, Mikey, Leo, and Raph are 4″ tall, and each comes with a weapons runner. If you decide to take them out of the packaging, remember that Mikey’s ‘chucks are probably still notoriously fragile. On the back of their cards, only the four turtles are listed. So, it’s not clear if we’ll be getting reproductions of the Foot Soldiers, Rocksteady, Bebop, or The Shredder.

Now, if you’re a big spender, then the Blimp and Party Wagon should also go into your cart. I’m not sure if it’s just inflation or because these figures may be part of a limited run, but get ready to shell out a lot of greenbacks for these two vehicles. The Blimp will set you back $79.99, and the Wagon goes for $69.99. Phew. I mean, these are cheaper than the Super7 Ultimates alternative, but good lord.

I never had the Turtle Blimp when I was a kid. My friend did, and he would tie it to a zip line from his treehouse to the pool. The blimp was covered in clear tape because it was easy to tear. The Party Wagon, on the other hand, I got one Christmas along with the Technodrome and sewer lair. The entire area under the Christmas tree became a warzone between the Foot Clan and my various Ninja Turtles. Ah, the simple life.

‘The Demon Girl Next Door’ is a supernatural slice-of-life comedic manga written and illustrated by Japanese author Izumo Itō for the Houbunsha publishing company. Its popularity led to an anime adaption from the  J.C.Staff animation studio, which released the first season in 2019 and has since been renewed for a second season to premiere in 2022. Sentai Filmworks, which streamed the first season to the HiDive streaming service, announced that they had acquired the rights to also stream the upcoming second season.
“Sentai announced today that it acquired exclusive rights to The Demon Girl Next Door Season 2, the follow-up to 2019’s comedy series of the same name that devilishly turned the magical girl genre on its head (and stuck on horns for good measure),” they said on their website.

Dazed and confused, her mother reveals to her a dark family secret: her family is descended from a Dark Clan that was banished to live powerless and destitute by their mortal enemies, the magical girls of the Light Clan. The only way to lift their ancestry’s curse is for Yuuko to find a magical girl, murder her, and splatter her blood all over her ancestor’s Demon God statue.
Fortunately for “Shadow Mistress Yuuko,” a magical girl saves her from being run over by an oncoming truck. Unfortunately, Momo Chiyoda happens to be Yuuko’s classmate at Sakuragaoka High and is much stronger than her in both strength and endurance. Taking pity on her wimpy assailant, the magical girl agrees to train Yuuko and help her unlock her dormant powers. Now, Yuuko must rise up and defeat her generous frenemy to save her family from the terrible grip of poverty.”
The anime is directed by Hiroaki Sakurai and written by Keiichirō Ōchi with Mai Otsuka handled the character designs.
