Metal Slug’s SV-001 Tank Can Be Yours, POW Boxers Included!

We may not be able to have a real-life SV-001 tank from Metal Slug 3, but Beast Kingdom is getting us as close as possible without breaking the bank.
The SV-001 measures 37 X 20 X 35 in centimeters, including the base. The street lamp and hearth below the iconic tank have light-up features. Three modular accessories include an “IN” sign, POW’s boxers, and the rocket launcher ammo pickup.
The tank is priced at $349.99 and is made of polystone. Each statue comes with a numbered plaque, but I couldn’t find how many pieces overall will be produced. Expect this heavy machinery to roll out in July 2023.

Beast Kingdom’s ‘Entertainment Experience Brand’ gives fans of extremely detailed works of art the chance to own a piece of gaming history with the launch of SV-001 Master Craft Tank. Limited to only 3,000 pieces worldwide, the hand-painted and crafted statue is a professionally made piece recreating the battle-worn tank with an immense focus on the fine details. A matching painted base brings to life a broken bridge with a set of movable extras including a street sign, game logo, ‘R rocket launcher’ as well as an extra pair of underpants from the saved POW, giving fans ample ways to set up the collectible piece.

Metal Slug 3 first appeared in arcades in 2000. Since then, it has migrated onto nearly every platform imaginable. It was one of the first games I purchased for my PSP Go. The second sequel could be considered the high point in the series, featuring amazing pixel animation and a few great horror/sci-fi moments. You can literally be turned into a zombie and vomit waves of blood at your enemies!

What do you think about this massive piece of gaming history? Let us know in the comments section below.

Batter Up! The ‘Ultimate Griff Tannen’ Wants To Know If You’re In Or Out.

Whether it’s 1885, 1955, or 2015, there are always two constants: Trannens and bullying. Although, of course, some bullying is a little more severe and deadly depending on the Tannen. While not as murderous as his ancestor Mad Dog Tannen, Giff of 2015 is no less hostile and maybe a little less sane.
Continuing its Back to the Future figures, NECA will be releasing the ‘Ultimate’ Griff Tannen action figure this September. Like the other figures in the series, Griff will come with an assortment of screen-accurate accessories. The thug with the illegal bionic implants is outfitted with his “Kirk Gibson Jr.” Slugger 2000 bat and Pit Bull hoverboard. The name of the bat was changed for obvious legal reasons. Griff also comes with an interchangeable head minus the helmet.

In Back to the Future Part 2, Marty and Doc experience the adventure of a lifetime in an unlikely time machine as they travel to the past, present, and future, setting off a time-shattering chain reaction that disrupts the space-time continuum! Standing approximately 7” tall, this Ultimate Griff Tannen figure is a menace! Includes telescoping bat, interchangeable head, hoverboard, and flight stand accessories.

NECA’s figures have stayed within the ranges of the three main characters of the trilogy. We’ve not seen a George McFly or anyone else so far. But could we get Griff’s gang? Data, Spike, and Whitey have unique looks in BTTF II and would make for cool action figures. Getting the rights to these actors’ likenesses would probably be easier than dealing with Crispin Glover.
I picked up the 2015 Marty McFly figure last year. As far as detail goes, it was terrific. The build quality, though? Ugh. The stand used to create the hover illusion had a loose connection to the hoverboard. So, Marty would always drop to one side and off the shelf. Also, one of his arms was wobbly, so I never tried to rotate it out of fear of falling off. I’m not sure if this is a common thing with NECA products, but it has always made me second guess picking something up unless I was going to keep it in the box.
Let us know your experiences with NECA figures in the comment section below.

The Most Magical Ladies On Eternia Get Their Own Art Scale Statues

The women who aid He-Man and Skeletor are ready for the spotlight! These Iron Studios’ Art Scale statues of Evil-Lyn and the Sorceress of Grayskull are modeled after their Filmation counterparts, much like the Skeletor and Prince Adam statues we covered earlier.
This does mean the outfits are less flashy than the 200X versions; however, the Filmation-inspired statues are far more colorful. I can’t be the only one who misses that shade of purple on the classic Evil-Lyn.
Evil-Lyn and the Sorceress are $139.99 each. A release date has not been finalized yet, but make sure to check out Iron Studios’ website for more details. Both statues will stand at 11.8″ tall and are made of polystone.

Serving as second-in-command for an evil sorcerer and as her most mighty and intelligent accomplice, the feared witch casts her magic with her mystic staff and her right hand, both forming spiral nacreous energy beams. As powerful as she is a leader, she watches over her objectives with cold and confident eyes, waiting to take advantage of her master’s powers and rule planet Eternia one day.

Exceptionally powerful within the limits of the castle of which she is the guardian, the beautiful sorceress raises her arms, opening part of the big wings with blue and orange feathers that compose her costume. Wearing a type of swimsuit and blue and white boots, with her head covered by a helmet in the shape of a falcon’s head, she gestures using her wide range of magic skills, while going down the stairs of Castle Grayskull.

Which one tickles your fancy? Both maybe? In the comments section below, let us know what you think about the Sorceress and Evil-Lyn.

‘Masters of The Universe’ Celebrates 40 Years With A New He-Man Toy!

Star Wars is shrinking on toy shelves while the Masters of the Universe takes over with two separate product lines. Who knew we’d be seeing 1985 happen all over again? The Origins and Revelations lines are still going strong, with even more figures on the way. While the Netflix-inspired toys may not have the staying power of Origins, it’s nice to see sword and sorcery figures getting the push they deserve.
Although it’s a bit past due, which we can excuse given the totally wrecked state of the world, we can all celebrate MotU‘s 40th anniversary with a brand new 7″ tall He-Man figure! Pre-orders are available now at the Big Bad Toy Store for $23.99. The expected release date is in the 3rd quarter of this year.

The strongest man in the universe is called to fit in with the Revelations line, and that’s not all he appears to have in common with the toys in that series. A closer look reveals that he has much of the same buck, except for the head and loincloth being different. The accessories, including the sword, shield, and ax, are all styled after the 1981 series. I can’t blame Mattel for reusing parts. At least we got a classic He-Man head!
If you’re wondering if He-Man and company can still hold kids’ interests, they can. I picked up the first He-Man and Skeletor figures in the Origins line a while ago and gave them to my daughter. After finding She-Ra and Evil-Lyn, I started explaining the relationships between the characters, and suddenly she was off playing house. Evil-Lyn was ordering Skeletor around while He-Man and She-Ra were busy gathering up all the lost My Little Pony figures. Ah, the power of imagination.

Purgatori’s New Statue Is All Sorts Of Beautiful

I miss those days in the 1990s when female comic book villains and heroines could be absolutely stunning. What do we have now? Androgenous Hawkeye and a Captain Marvel who looks like Jason Mewes? No, thank you! I’ll take some beauties like Lady Death, Vampirella, and Purgatori, please.
PCS has managed to outdoor the wow factor we saw with its Vampirella statue by creating one based on a more devious vampire, the goddess herself Purgatori. Looking like she flew straight out of an Evil Ernie comic, Purgatori is clad in her signature leather outfit (as minimal as it may be). She’s also spreading them wide. Her wings! I’m talking about her wings!
The enslaved Egyptian turned blood-sucking fiend measures 33.25″ tall, and the base is 33.5″ wide. She also comes with some accessories. Bangs! Yes, interchangeable bangs! OK, it’s not an exciting selling feature, but it’s similar to the swappable heads we saw on Vampirella. You can get the classic or the newer look without laying down an additional $1,375.
The blood-red babe will be shipping out sometime between December and March 2023.

The Purgatori 1:3 Scale Statue is fully sculpted with black costume pieces featuring small gold accents, including her bikini top and bottom, a choker, long gloves, and thigh-high boots. Her red and black wings have veined details and large talons at each end. Purgatori’s portrait features sculpted black hair, striking yellow eyes, pointed horns, and vampire fangs peeking out behind parted red lips. An ankh necklace representing her past life completes her signature look.

Maybe once Hollywood gets off of the MCU formula, we can get back to having more corny and adult-themed comic book movies. A Chaos! Comics cinematic universe would be a thing I could get behind.

Netflix Cancels Two More Animated Series

0

It was only just over a week ago it was announced that drastic changes were being made in the animation department at Netflix. Now that appears to be only the beginning of a list of cancellations and layoffs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, two shows have “stopped production”. Dino Daycare and Boons and Curses were the latest animated series on the chopping block. Originally announced in 2020, Dino Daycare took place in a world where dinosaurs never went extinct and a 6-year-old boy helps out at a nursery for baby dinos of all shapes and sizes. The series was created by Jeff King and executive produced by Chris Nee (who also executive produced Doc McStuffins and was writer for Vampirina). Chris Nee share a tweet after the announcement was made public:

Hard day for a beautiful show deep into production. So much love to Jeff King and the incredible Dino Daycare crew. I have no doubt it will find a new home. But right now, hard. If you need the best of preschool writers, DM me.

Boons and Curses was announced in May of last year along with other Asian American inspired animated features and series. The South Asia inspired story was about a young warrior who has been cursed into butter, but that doesn’t stop this warrior from taking on an evil ruler. The series was planned to air in 2023.

A member of the production team took to Twitter to explain what they were told by Netflix as to what happened behind the scenes surrounding the cancellation of Boons and Curses.

Netflix just cancelled the production I have been on since last August, the unparalleled @jayhasrajani‘s Boons & Curses.

Near the end of the twitter thread, Marcy added further explanation relating to how Netflix told them the news:

They dropped this news on us literally within the hour of a production celebration that we were going to have for our first episode shipped. Now, it’s all stopping.

They told us their main reason for cancellation was trouble they were having deciding if it belonged in an “action” slate or a “comedy” slate. I’m sure you can decide on the validity of that yourself.

Writer and producer of Boons and Curses, Jay Hasrajani, shared on his Twitter that he intends to talk about this later:

He has also been sharing many tweets from fellow members of the production crew who were working with him on the new series. One such example is from Twitter user @ianlaser:

Our whole crew just got laid off from “Boones and Curses” over at Netflix. The work we did was amazing. So sad no one will get to see the beautiful things we were working on. Loved this crew.

Hopefully the cancelled shows will find other places to continue what was started. But until then, who else will be laid off? What else will be cancelled? I’m sure we will find out soon enough.

Crunchyroll Drops ‘Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy’ English Dub Cast

0

‘Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy’ is a fantasy isekai light novel series written by Kei Azumi and illustrated by Mitsuaki Matsumoto published by the Japanese publishing company AlphaPolis since 2013. A manga version illustrated by Kotora Kino was launched in 2015 with an anime adaption from the Tokyo-based animation studio C2C premiering in July 2021. Due to the show’s popularity, Crunchyroll has announced that they have gained the license to produce an English dub which began airing weekly in April 2022.
Crunchyroll announced the cast on their website:

  • Monica Rial (Alice in Combatants Will Be Dispatched!) as Shen
  • Tia Ballard (Shuna in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) as Emma
  • Reagan Murdock (Erhart in The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent) as Tsukuyomi
  • Skyler McIntosh (Kaori in Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest) as Hasegawa

“As part of a mysterious contract agreed upon by a goddess and his parents years ago, Makoto Misumi finds himself sent to another world to meet the goddess and become the hero. However, the deity deems Makoto to be “hideous,” refusing to even lay eyes upon him and revokes his heroic title. Disdainfully giving him the ability to understand all languages except the human language as compensation, the goddess drives Makoto off to the farthest edges of the wasteland, far from human civilization.
Due to the disparity between Earth and this new world, Makoto’s inherent physical and magical capabilities awaken, making him extremely powerful. He meets various demihumans and mythical beings who all end up being captivated with his characteristics and join Makoto in building a new community where all of them can peacefully coexist.
Nevertheless, despite this success, Makoto still yearns to meet fellow humans. In a world where the goddess herself has barred him from interacting with his kind, it is up to Makoto and his companions to fulfill his desire—and perhaps reform society along the way.”
The anime is written by Kenta Ihara with music from Yasuharu Takanashi. The first season ran for twelve episodes. ‘Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy’ has been renewed for a second season.

Kite Man Is Gliding Into His Own HBO Max Spin-Off

‘Harley Quinn: The Animated Series’ is spinning off the lovable and dimwitted villain Kite Man, voiced by Matt Oberg, into his own animated television show for HBO Max with the working title ‘Noonan.’ Dean Lorey will work as the showrunner, and an executive producer along with by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Kaley Cuoco.
“If you’ve seen Harley Quinn, the popular adult animated series featuring the beloved bat-wielding troublemaker, then you’ve gotten to know Kite Man, the good-natured wannabe villain who was all set to tie the knot with Poison Ivy until she realized her real love was for Harley. But don’t feel too bad for the guy. After all, he’s getting his own show,” DC Universe said on their website.

The first season will feature ten episodes and will “expand” the world created by its predecessor in “unique new ways.” DCU noted that “Noonan’s will focus on lovable loser Kite Man and his new squeeze Golden Glider as they moonlight as criminals to support their foolish purchase of Noonan’s, Gotham’s seediest dive bar, where everybody knows your name, but not necessarily your secret identity.”
Executive VP of Original Comedy and Adult Animation at HBO Max and Adult Swim Suzanna Makkos celebrated the spin-off saying, “We love the wild and fun world of Harley Quinn so much we just had to make a spin-off and who better to center it around than the outcast Kite Man.”
She added, “Justin, Patrick and Dean have created the perfect local hangout for Gotham City’s not-so-finest at Noonan’s, where bar patrons can blow off steam after a long day of mayhem.”
Currently, there is no release date for the series.
Kite Man first appeared in a 1960 issue of Batman as the villainous alter ego of Charles “Chuck” Brown, created by the Dark Knight co-creator Bill Finger and artist Dick Sprang. He would make spontaneous appearances throughout DC Comics and had a somewhat prominent role in “The War of Jokes and Riddles” arc by writer Tom King.
