Barbie Once Again Honors David Bowie’s Glamorousness

Barbie is asking the critical question. Is there “Life on Mars?” She’s also dressed appropriately for that enigma, donning David Bowie’s powder-blue suit and scarlet hair. There’s so much glam in this doll that even I may pick her up. Does this mean a Goblin King version of the legendary Barbie could be on the way? Mattel recently announced that Barbie would be honoring the Thin White Duke again. Last time it was Ziggy Stardust, this time, it’s his look from the Life on Mars music video.
This Barbie will go for $55, but she’s already sold out at stores like Target and Walmart.

NECA’s New Universal Monster Figures: Invisible Man and Glowly Monsters!

More Universal Monsters are on the way, thanks to NECA! This time around, we’re looking at Claude Rains’s version of The Invisible Man from 1933 and a trio of glow-in-the-dark classic horror creatures.
The Invisible Man was based on the H.G. Wells story by the same name. It was directed by the man who brought us Universal’s Frankenstein just two years earlier, James Whale. It starred Claude Rains as chemist Dr. Jack Griffin, who is driven mad thanks to the ingredients used to turn him invisible. The NECA figure captures Rains’s iconic look as Griffin, complete with interchangeable heads recreating the “invisibility” effect seen in the ’33 film.
The figure stands 7″ tall and comes with a variety of accessories. The Invisible Man is due out just after Halloween this year.

For the 90th anniversary of Universal’s sci-fi horror film classic, NECA is excited to reveal The Invisible Man in Ultimate action figure form! Starring Claude Rains, 1933’s The Invisible Man was based on the classic H.G. Wells novel and received critical acclaim, eventually being placed on the U.S. National Film Registry for its historical significance.

Next, we’re looking at the glowing trio of Universal’s most well-known monsters: The Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, and The Wolf Man. If you were a kid of the ’80s, you might remember Universal Monster figures popping up from time to time in glowy form. Well, NECA is plucking that memberberry with the retro-inspired line. The figures included in this set had previously been released as standard NECA figures. Here, they’ve been given a simplistic paint job, like the toys of old, and coated with glow-in-the-dark material.
Look for these three to arrive in October of this year.

Feds Give SpaceX Greenlight To Offer Starlink Internet For Vehicles

0

Starlink is SpaceX’s solution to getting high-speed internet service to rural areas. The satellite-based system was designed for homes and stationary RVs. However, the coverage capabilities of the service are about to change thanks to the FCC.
According to Ars Technica, the FCC has given SpaceX and Kepler Communications the green light to expand service vehicles in motion. The initial approval is only for water-based transport but will eventually move to in-motion land vehicles. As of right now, SpaceX can only offer internet services to homes and stationary RVs.
The most significant player in this is Kepler Communications, and all plans moving forward may entirely depend on the company’s network of technology in orbit. According to its official website, Kepler offers “a nexus of constellations, ground stations, payload technology, and communication solutions to amplify access to on-orbit data by bringing the internet to space.” It is unclear if Kepler will be working with other companies to provide mobile broadband options at this point.
The other issue regarding which spectrum brands the companies can use has arisen. Apparently, the Dish network wants to move into the cellular space by using the same 12 GHz band that other satellite services do. SpaceX is concerned that having a cellular network on the spectrum bands will render its service useless. However, the FCC has stated that it won’t limit what types of services can be used on that band, thus telling SpaceX that it will have to deal with potential interference.
Now, broadband via satellite isn’t new. However, from what I’ve experienced, it is not great. I’d compare it to DSL on a good day; a passing cloud could take you offline. If you’re wondering if Starlink could be the solution for you, check out this unboxing and testing video from Wranglerstar:

Would you try SpaceX’s internet service? Let us know below.

HasLab’s Cobra HISS Blasts Through Its Crowdfunding Goal!

Crowdfunding campaigns on Hasbro Pulse are hit and miss. First, the Rancor was a major dud, while the Proton Pack and now the Cobra H.I.S.S. easily surpassed the funding goals in just days. With an initial requirement of 8,000 backers, the H.I.S.S. surpassed that and is currently sitting at over 12k! Impressive!
The HISS is possibly one of the most iconic Cobra vehicles, and every kid I knew who had G.I. Joe toys always had at least two H.I.S.S.s. It was a treaded tank! What kid didn’t love tanks? The H.I.S.S. has seen various reissues and revisions over the years, but it has never before been brought to market for the 6″ line of G.I. Joe figures.
Of course, a vehicle that large will come with a hefty price tag. So, you’ve got 43 days left to scrounge up $299.99 if you want to claim one of Cobra’s High Speed Sentry tanks for yourself.
The campaign has four stretch goals, and backers have already unlocked two of them. The first “Classified Upgrade,” as Hasbro calls the goals, is a pair of side-mounted missile racks. Upgrade #2 has not been announced yet, because the threshold for that tier was just passed, and Hasbro tends to update things only during the work week.

A mere $299.99 grants backers the base offering of my technological wonder, the H.I.S.S., as well as a highly-articulated Cobra H.I.S.S. Driver Action Figure with premium deco, detailing, and articulation for poseability. The vehicle itself contains an astounding level of detail and features allowing for myriad posing and display options.

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,
“Young Thorfinn grew up listening to the stories of old sailors that had traveled the ocean and reached the place of legend, Vinland. It’s said to be warm and fertile, a place where there would be no need for fighting—not at all like the frozen village in Iceland where he was born, and certainly not like his current life as a mercenary. War is his home now. Though his father once told him, “You have no enemies, nobody does. There is nobody who it’s okay to hurt,” as he grew, Thorfinn knew that nothing was further from the truth.
The war between England and the Danes grows worse with each passing year. Death has become commonplace, and the viking mercenaries are loving every moment of it. Allying with either side will cause a massive swing in the balance of power, and the vikings are happy to make names for themselves and take any spoils they earn along the way. Among the chaos, Thorfinn must take his revenge and kill Askeladd, the man who murdered his father. The only paradise for the vikings, it seems, is the era of war and death that rages on.”
The show is produced by Naokado Fujiwara, Yōko Ueda, and Mitsuhiro Sugita. Netflix previously made its own dubbed version before Sentai Filmworks had their own.

While reconciling that their futures are far different than their 12-year-old selves imagined, they are being hunted by a militant faction of time-travelers known as the Old Watch, who have outlawed time travel so that they can stay in power. In order to survive, the girls will need to overcome their differences and learn to trust each other, and themselves.”
Paper Girls is from Amazon Studios and Legendary Television. It is based on the comic book series by author Brian K. Vaughan and artist Cliff Chiang.

A teaser visual… and an official website and Twitter feed (@nokemono_anime) have been published for the series, but aside from the image illustrated by Hoshino that celebrates the announcement, no further details have yet been revealed,” Crunchyroll reports.
The author expressed his excitement for the project on social media, saying, “It is decided to animate “Night of Nokemono”! !! It is an animation of whether the author has accumulated a great deal of virtue in the previous life, or whether he has made a deal with the devil. It was a work that I wanted to draw the miracle of the encounter carefully, but the work itself was blessed with a miracle-like encounter.”
The visual was revealed on Twitter:

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the synopsis as follows,
“An engrossing new fantasy manga series in which a downtrodden orphan girl develops an unexpected friendship with a beastly immortal.
This is the story of Wisteria, an orphaned girl lost in darkness, and Marbas, an immortal being who shares her loneliness. What begins as a chance meeting on the edge of the late nineteenth-century British Empire soon became a full-fledged journey to find their place in the world.”

“Usually, stories go to great lengths to show why making a deal with the devil is an extremely bad idea. Want to know what kind of compromising situations these two find themselves in,” HiDive said on their website.

Following its instructions, he inscribes a magic circle, and ends up summoning a powerful demon named Vermeil, who was sealed long ago, and makes her his familiar. However, the voluptuous Vermeil occassionally requires magical energy from Alto, which she claims by kissing him deeply.”
Square Enix has published the story in their ‘Monthly Shōnen Gangan’ since August 2018 which has, as of the writing of this article, run for six volumes.
