MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“Life is not going well for 28-year-old Kyouya Hashiba. Having left his office job to pursue a career in the video game industry, his internship at a popular game studio abruptly ends, leaving him unemployed and forcing him to move back in with his parents. Additionally, his jealousy toward the success of the “Platinum Generation”—a group of similarly-aged creators—has caused him to regret his decision to attend a traditional university instead of an arts college. Even though he believes there are no second chances in life, Kyouya is suddenly given one when he wakes up one day and finds himself 10 years in the past.

Instead of choosing business school like he originally had, Kyouya decides to pursue his passions and attends the Oonaka University of Art. There, he meets classmate Eiko Kawasegawa, the woman who had hired him as an intern in the present, alongside his new housemates and future Platinum Generation members: underachieving artist Aki Shino, aspiring singer and actress Nanako Kogure, and naturally-gifted writer Tsurayuki Rokuonji.

With each project they complete together, Kyouya and his friends venture closer to discovering their true potential as creators and remaking their lives into the ideal versions they desire.”

There is a spin-off light novel series ‘Bokutachi no Remake β’ showing Kyouya’s life had he not gone back in time.

Opinion: Comic Convention Mask Mandates are Kind of Pointless Now, Aren’t They?

San Diego Comic-Con had mask and vaccine (or clean test) mandates for attendees this year.

Other than optics and making people feel better about attending a crowded event in post-pandemic 2022, these measures didn’t really seem to stop anyone from getting sick. In fact, looking at my Twitter feed one would get the impression that SDCC was actually a “super-spreader” event.

I’ve seen several posts from attendees on social media complaining that they got sick from SDCC, despite the precautions. This also despite the media prematurely praising the mandates for stopping the spread.

This Isn’t Political. It’s Just No Longer Practical.

Before I go any further, I want to point out that I just got over COVID myself after avoiding it for two years. It sucked. And I know several people who’ve died from COVID. I’m not trivializing how severe it can become for some people.

But most of the country is attempting to move on and “learn to live” with COVID. Most conventions I’ve been to since 2020 haven’t required masks or proof of vaccination.

Walt Disney World just swept away the remnants of its COVID safety signage this week.

TwitchCon announced today that it’s dropping mask mandates. That event is also in San Diego, by the way.

It’s understood when you voluntarily go to a crowded event, you run the risk of getting sick. That has always been the case with comic book conventions, hence the term “con crud.”

COVID adds another potential threat to leaving your house. But the other option is to, well, not leave your house ever again.

Conventions will be struggling to come back after the pandemic and going to a recession. Cutting back on potential customers and revenue might not be a smart move for showrunners at this point.

Again, we’re going to have to “learn to live” with COVID. What that looks like should be left up to individual choice, based on the current available data. The current available data says fully vaxxed and boosted people can still get the latest COVID variant. Even celebrities. Even the President.

So at this point, choosing to mask up or stay up-to-date on boosters should be as optional as choosing to attend a crowded comic book convention. We’re two years into this thing. Everybody fully understands the risks and is able to make decisions for themselves accordingly.

Good luck out there.

‘Laid-Back Camp’ Is Getting An English Dub

0

‘Yuru Camp’ is a slice-of-life adventure manga written and illustrated by Afro. In other markets, it is also known as ‘Laid-Back Camp.’ The series is published by the Tokyo-based publisher Houbunsha and translated into English by Yen Press. The Japanese animation studio C-Station picked it for an anime that ran from January 4, 2018, to April 1, 2021, for twenty-five episodes and five specials.

After the anime arrived on Crunchyroll, the streaming service announced that they were producing an English dubbed version that launched in August 2022. They released the cast list on their website:

MyAnimeList described the synopsis as follows,

“While the perfect getaway for most girls her age might be a fancy vacation with their loved ones, Rin Shima’s ideal way of spending her days off is camping alone at the base of Mount Fuji. From pitching her tent to gathering firewood, she has always done everything by herself, and has no plans of leaving her little solitary world.

However, what starts off as one of Rin’s usual camping sessions somehow ends up as a surprise get-together for two when the lost Nadeshiko Kagamihara is forced to take refuge at her campsite. Originally intending to see the picturesque view of Mount Fuji for herself, Nadeshiko’s plans are disrupted when she ends up falling asleep partway to her destination. Alone and with no other choice, she seeks help from the only other person nearby. Despite their hasty introductions, the two girls nevertheless enjoy the chilly night together, eating ramen and conversing while the campfire keeps them warm. And even after Nadeshiko’s sister finally picks her up later that night, both girls silently ponder the possibility of another camping trip together.”

The anime received a spin-off film ‘Laid-Back Camp: Movie’ which was released in Japan in 2022.

The ABC mockumentary sitcom ‘Abbott Elementary’ is coming to multiple streaming services this year. Ahead of the show’s season, it was announced that HBO Max and Hulu signed a “Co-Exclusive” deal to have the show stream to their apps simultaneously.

“HBO Max and Hulu will share the co-exclusive streaming rights to complete seasons of the Emmy® Award–nominated comedy series ABBOTT ELEMENTARY,” HBO Max said in a press release. “Created by and starring Quinta Brunson from Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, the full 13-episode first season will debut AUGUST 20 on HBO Max. New audiences can experience the acclaimed series for the first time or viewers can catch up on HBO Max and Hulu before it returns for season two Wednesday, September 21, at 9:00 pm ET/PT on ABC. As part of an existing agreement with ABC, Hulu will continue to make current season episodes available the day after each broadcast premiere. These new episodes plus prior seasons will remain on Hulu and complete future seasons will be available to stream on HBO Max before the next season premieres on ABC.”

The show also stars Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. It is executive produced by Randall Einhorn, Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Brunson.

You can watch the trailer below:

Wikipedia described the synopsis as follows,

“A documentary crew is recording the lives of teachers working in underfunded schools. One of the places they have decided to document is Philadelphia’s Willard R. Abbott Elementary School, a predominantly Black Philadelphia public school. Conditions at the school are harsh and most teachers do not last more than two years. Second grade teacher Janine Teagues and history teacher Jacob Hill are two of three teachers in a group of twenty to make it past one year. They work with experienced kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard, second grade teacher Melissa Schemmenti, tone-deaf school principal Ava Coleman, and recent substitute hire Gregory Eddie.”

It is a co-production between 20th Television and Delicious Non-Sequitur.

DC Disaster! ‘Batgirl’ Movie AXED by Warner Bros! Is ‘The Flash’ Next?

0

The Batgirl movie is officially shelved, and will apparently never see the light of day on any platform according to reports. This despite the studio having spent $90 million on the flick, which was intended to debut on HBO Max.

It’s being reported that Batgirl is done done. It’s not getting a theatrical release or a streaming release.

It’s speculated that The Flash, starring highly troubled actor Ezra Miller, may also be on the chopping block.

New Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav continues to make brutal cuts to the company, with DC Comics and films being a concern for him. Zaslav’s goal is to find someone to ‘overhaul’ DC and turn it into a legit competitor to Disney’s Marvel Studios. Possibly to this end, Zaslav secured former Disney exec Alan Horn as a consultant.

Here’s more from Variety

The production — starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) and directed by “Bad Boys for Life” and “Ms. Marvel” filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah — was greenlit in 2021 as part of a company-wide effort at Warner Bros. to create feature films specifically for HBO Max. But the new corporate regime at Warner Bros. Discovery has pivoted the company’s priorities back to theatrical features, leaving “Batgirl” without a proper home.

The Hollywood press is struggling to make sense of the decision to simply bury the movie. It really is almost unheard of. Batgirl joins the ranks of such infamous buried movies like The Day the Clown Cried and Roger Corman’s low-budget Fantastic Four flick.

The decision still comes as a shock, as studios almost never shelve productions outright, preferring to get at least some return on their investment. It also comes as Warner Bros. is still contending with what to do about “The Flash,” a DC adaptation created — and budgeted — specifically for theatrical release in 2023. The film has been utterly hamstrung by repeated allegations of abuse and misconduct by its star, Ezra Miller.

Twitter isn’t happy, believing that Warner chose to axe Batgirl and keep The Flash. But that might not be the case.

Yes, it would appear that The Flash is also on the chopping block, as Ezra Miller keeps dragging Warner Bros. into PR nightmares at a lightning fast pace. This after the Ray Fisher debacle that saw him ousted from the film in 2021.

(I mean, really, does anybody even want to see more of Miller’s weird ass “running” for two hours? People would go to see Michael Keaton as Batman again. That’s it. Be honest.)

Why Was ‘Batgirl’ REALLY Cancelled?

Again, the official reason that most outlets are giving is that HBO Max ‘made for TV’ movies aren’t a priority. It was simply a business decision that aligned with David Zaslav’s plan for DC Comics movies going forward.

However, there’s another rumor. And that rumor is that the movie is bad. Really, really bad. And it did poorly with test audiences.

Those tests were said to be so poorly received by moviegoers that the studio decided to cut its losses and run, for the sake of the brand’s future. It’s a DC disaster.

“They think an unspeakable ‘Batgirl’ is going to be irredeemable,” the source said.

Oof. Maybe the similarities to Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four don’t end with both movies being shelved?

He’s being called a prodigy with a pickaxe, and he’s almost ready to settle into a life of labor. Yet he can’t shake the feeling that he is still has a responsibility to act… and soon, the injustices of his world will force his hand…”
