HiDive To Stream AMC Animated Series ‘Pantheon’

0

The streaming service HiDive announced that they are picking up the AMC animated series ‘Pantheon.’ The AMC Network partnered with the production studio Titmouse to produce the show which is based on a collection of short stories by award-winning author Ken Liu.

HiDive said on their website, “The thrilling speculative drama is centered on a bullied teen, Maddie (Katie Chang), who receives mysterious help from someone online: a stranger soon revealed to be her recently deceased father, David (Daniel Dae Kim), whose consciousness has been uploaded to the Cloud following an experimental destructive brain scan. David is the first of a new kind of being – an ‘Uploaded Intelligence’ or ‘UI’ – but he will not be the last, as a global conspiracy unfolds that threatens to trigger a new kind of world war.”

Craig Silverstein (‘Nikita,’ ‘Terra Nova’) has been tapped as the showrunner and as a co-executive producer. The show will also stream to AM Plus.

AMC added, “‘Pantheon’ explores the outer limits of what we and our technology are capable of creating and destroying, focusing on the “uploading” of human consciousness into the cloud. It explores the theme of technology through the lens of family, focusing on both the people whose brains have been digitally uploaded, and the loved ones they’ve left behind. Ultimately, ‘Pantheon’ challenges our understanding of what it means to be human.”

The show has been approved for two seasons with the pilot airing on HiDive on Thursday, September 1, 2022.

You can watch the trailer below:

The show features the voice talents of Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-O, Always Be My Maybe), Katie Chang (The Bling Ring), Rosemarie DeWitt (Little Fires Everywhere, Rachel Getting Married), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight, Thank You For Smoking, Ambush), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is The New Black), Ron Livingston (Loudermilk, A Million Little Things), Raza Jaffrey (Homeland, Code Black) Scoot McNairy (Narcos: Mexico, Argo), and Anika Noni Rose (The Princess and the Frog, Little Fires Everywhere).

Fox Nation To Stream ‘The Shell Collector’ As Its First In-House Film Production

Fox Nation has entered the streaming wars. Known for specials spun-off from Fox News, the streaming app primarily featured news programs, documentaries, and true crime miniseries, but has since began adding original films to their library. They announced that they will release the romantic film ‘The Shell Collector,’ their first movie that was developed “in-house” for the streaming service.

Deadline reports that the “movie is based on Nancy Naigle’s book, and stars Caitlin Clark, Christopher Russell, and Jennifer Higgin. According to Fox Nation the production is ‘a heartwarming story about a widow, Amanda Whittier, with two children who befriends some interesting characters in her small seaside town as she looks to forge ahead with her new life following the death of her husband.'”

The movie was co-produced by Cartel Pictures who have developed holiday TV films such as ‘Once Upon a Christmas Miracle’ and horror flicks like ‘Monsters of California.’ It is directed by Nicholas Humphries (‘The Engagement Back-Up’) with Graem Luis (‘The Last Victim’) working on the project as a producer.

“The service plans three other original movies over the next year tied to the holiday season. It previously has debuted several original Christmas movies that were outside productions, including last year’s ‘Christmas in the Wilds’ and ‘Christmas in the Pines,’ as well as a third original, ‘Romance in the Wilds,'” they continued.

‘The Shell Collector’ is set to stream on September 1, 2022.

Goodreads describes the novel’s synopsis as follows,

“Two years after her husband’s death, Amanda Whittier has two children to raise alone, an abandoned dream of starting a business, and a fixer-upper cottage by the sea. She has no room in her life for anything else and little interest in moving on after losing the man she loved.

Paul Grant is a relative newcomer to the area, and his work with former military dogs needing rehabilitation has been good for the town. Though he loved once before, he’s convinced he’s not suited for romance and is determined to find meaning–alone–through his work and role in the community.

Widowed Maeve Lindsay was born and raised on Whelk’s Island. Spirited, kind, and a little mischievous, she pours her life into the town. But she carries a secret that shapes her every move.

Together, these three souls find encouragement in the most mysterious places and discover a love that’s bigger than their pain, healing their wounded hearts in ways none of them could have hoped for or expected.”

Nancy Naigle is given a writer’s credit for the film.

Hasbro’s Cobra H.I.S.S. Exceeds Goal By Over 18k Backers!

The Cobra H.I.S.S. crowdfunding campaign not only met its goal but also blew past it with over 18,000 backers! HasLab’s project to create a 1/6th scale version of the classic Cobra vehicle closed on August 15th to more success than the Reva lightsaber fiasco. As Heel VS Babyface pointed out, the G.I. Joe license brought it $8m, and a Star Wars product couldn’t even scratch 10% of that:

When a character is unpopular with fans, they’re not going to waste their money. So it doesn’t matter what the people on Twitter say; customers will vote with their wallets. And right now, those wallets are craving nostalgic Cobra merchandise. Since we last covered the crowdfunding effort, the H.I.S.S. has met several stretch goals.

The first unlock was the twin side-mounted missile racks:

Your Cobra H.I.S.S. will now include two removable, side-mounted missile racks, which telescope out from the vehicle. Each rack holds 6 MALHISS missile accessories!

The second unlock tier came with retro-inspired accessories. These came in the form of a clear canopy and armor-plated treat skirts. So now your upsized H.I.S.S. will look even more like the one from your childhood!

Now, your backing of this project has earned you the H.I.S.S. Retro Pack! To display your H.I.S.S. closer to the classssssic 80s vehicle design, you’ll get a swappable, single-piece canopy with a rear hinge that attaches to the cockpit, as well as removable retro armor-plating skirts inspired by the original 788 toy to go over your treadssss!

Did you think the H.I.S.S. needed even more firepower? So did Cobra! The 3rd stretch goal gave us a weapons accessory pack and a female H.I.S.S. gunner figure.

You’ll get twin HISSINTEGRATOR CANNON accessssssories, which attach under the nose of the cockpit, and two HISSRUPTOR ZX-5 blaster accessories that attach to either side of the H.I.S.S. turret!

A weapon is nothing without someone to wield it. Pose your H.I.S.S. Gunner figure at the controls of the articulated turret or wielding their weapon accesssssories. Adding a Gunner figure gives you a full complement of troops to staff your H.I.S.S. vehicle, and offerssss even more ways to display your H.I.S.S. fleet.

The fourth and final unlockable was for a retro-styled Cobra Commander! It may not be the superior hooded version, but the classic mirror-masked leader of Cobra is undoubtedly welcome.

Hasbro

Such a momentous depiction can’t posssssibly be slapped together with reussssed parts and pieces. I recently “sequesssstered” the HasLab team and insisted they create an all-new sculpt to capture me in all my 1980s glory. I’m certain it will inspire future statuessss and monuments throughout the world. My figure comes with 8 accessories including alternate hands, a backpack holster for my venom blaster accessory, and a miniature globe with my pet cobra. It’s a small world, but I will wrap my coils around it and squeeze it into total submission. Plus you can pose my figure astride the tail board at the rear of the H.I.S.S. as we roll on to victory!

‘The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious’ English Dub Announced

‘The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious’ is a romantic comedy manga written and drawn by Wakame Konbu. It began publication by Square Enix in 2020 with Yen Press picking it up for release in English. Its popularity led to the Japanese animation studios Silver Link and Blade for an anime adaptation that was released in 2022. It is directed by Misuzu Hoshino and Mirai Minato, who also works as a writer for the show.

Crunchyroll announced that they were developing an English dub with the cast being revealed on their website.

Macy Anne Johnson (Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie) will take on the voice of Yuuri while Natalie Van Sistine (Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town) will portray the titular maid Lilith. John Burgmeier, Rachel Thompson, and Dusty Feeney are also members of the cast.

Megan Shipman works on the project as the ADR Director with Natalie Rose joining as the assistant ADR Director.

You can watch the trailer below:

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“The maid Lilith, hired to look after young Yuuri and his family’s mansion, seems highly suspicious: she is too good to be true. Every dish she serves turns out to be delicious, the whole residence sparkles after she cleans it, and all the clothing has given off a pleasant scent since she started doing the laundry. Furthermore, her devilishly beautiful eyes only serve to heighten Yuuri’s suspicions. Is Lilith perhaps a witch or a sorcerer? Yuuri cannot figure it out. But despite his misgivings, Yuuri has to live with Lilith as he tries to unravel the mystery behind her otherworldly charm.”

The series is also known as ‘My Recently Hired Maid is Suspicious’ in other markets and began publication as a webcomic before being picked up by Square Enix.

Mezco’s New Pennywise Doll Is The Perfect Snuggle Buddy

Haven’t you laid in your bed at night and thought, “Oh, boy, I sure do wish I had a murderous clown to keep me company at night?” If that has been on your mind, I ask that you seek professional help. However, if you’re dead set on making it a reality, Mezco has just what your weird little mind desires.

The latest Mezco MDS Retro Plush doll has taken on the guise of the ancient evil only known as IT. The sewer-dweller uses the form of a clown to lure children and eat them, after filling them full of terror, of course. After all, fear makes the meat taste better, according to Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel.

Pennywise is 18″ tall and $94. Expect him to slither out of the sewer sometime between October and December 2022.

Mezco

At approximately 18 inches tall, the MDS Roto Plush Pennywise features a menacing stare and maniacal grin. The demonic shape-shifter is outfitted in a clown costume with ruffle detailing around the collar, wrists, and ankles. The MDS Roto Plush Pennywise comes packaged in a collector-friendly window box, perfect for display.

I’m still waiting for a faithful adaptation of IT to come to theatres or TV. Aside from King’s weird sexualization of children, the story of IT is mostly excellent, especially when it comes to Mike’s family history with the creature and the racism of the early to mid-1900s. But, for whatever reason, the mini-series and two feature-length films totally ignored this aspect of the book—such a missed opportunity. At least the movie version of Pennywise was closer to the book, as far as IT’s appearance goes. Had the suit been silver and the makeup more like Ronald McDonald’s, it would have been perfect. But instead, they had to go with the overtly creepy look that fell far below what Tim Curry pulled off in 1990.

What do you think of this Pennywise doll? Let us know in the comments section below.

Marvel’s Avengers Version Of Black Panther Gets A Cool Statue

T’Challa may be the last great thing to happen to the MCU. He certainly was the only good thing to happen to Marvel’s Avengers. Remember? It was the game that Eidos shelved Dues Ex for. The game launched with Spider-Man being a Playstation-exclusive figure, and within a couple of weeks, the player base was deader than Edgar Allen Poe. Even though the main game was crap, the War For Wakanda DLC was a good reason to reinstall.

To celebrate T’Challa saving a game from being totally forgotten, PCS has announced a new statue based on Black Pather’s appearance in the game. It’s a mix between classic Black Panther and the MCU, like many other characters in the 2020 video game. The artists over at Crystal Dynamics made the best of both worlds, that’s for sure.

The statue is 1:3 scale and measures over 36″ tall. T’Challa’s thrown is immaculate, featuring lots of Wakanda-inspired detail. The King can be displayed either masked or unmasked. A price has not been announced yet, but I’d speculate this will be over $1k. You can join the RSVP list over at Sideshow.

The Black Panther 1:3 Scale Statue measures 37.61” tall and 22.6” wide and 17.43″ deep as the stoic King T’Challa plants his Vibranium spear firmly beside him in the Wakandan throne room. His ornate golden seat is detailed with beautiful Wakandan aesthetics, blending Afrofuturistic design with traditional colors and patterns. A shield emblem and panther sigil adorn the back and front of the throne, giving Black Panther the blessings of the goddess Bast.

The Black Panther Statue is fully sculpted to capture all the unique details of his in-game appearance. His Vibranium-enhanced suit features numerous textures across his muscled physique to protect the warrior king in battle. This video game statue also includes two portraits — one masked portrait and one unmasked portrait — offering collectors multiple display options.

Ratchet Is Alive! Transformers: The Movie Figure Coming Soon!

Dare!

Dare to collect all of the various Transformers: The Movie figures as they spin off into different series and sizes! The latest character from the 1986 cinematic epic to wind up on an oddly small scale is Autobot Ratchet. We spotted this new pre-order over at the Big Bad Toy Store. He may have been killed off in the movie, but Takara Tomy is bringing him back. Although not in the most spectacular fashion.

Ratchet is still getting the shaft, even in this movie-specific toyline. He is part of the Core Class of figures, meaning he’s small. How small? 3.5″ to be exact. Sure, size may not always matter, but it does when you remember how big and thick his G1 figure was. Generation One Ratchet didn’t have a head, but he made up for it with a girthy accessory that acted like a battle station. And it fired rockets!

OK, I must admit that the original Takara Tomy Ratchet didn’t resemble the cartoon version. Not even close. It took a revision and eventually an entirely new toyline to finally get the Autobot medic to look anything close to screen-accurate.

Regardless, if you’ve been collecting the Transformers: The Movie series over the past couple of years, then it won’t matter. It sucks that he’s the same size as the recently announced Wheelie figure.

Takara Tomy

Let’s all relive the abrupt death of Ratchet, Prowl, Ironhide, and Brawn.

Jeez! I mean, the TF movie went all out with the brutality. That may be one of the earliest graphic deaths I can remember as a kid, except for a couple of anime movies I saw around the same time. Of course, Takara Tomy or Hasbro wanted to boot these characters off the production line, didn’t they?

What do you think of the new Ratchet? Should he have been part of the Voyager Class or larger lines of Transformers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

NFL Blitz Is Back Thanks To Arcade1Up, But It’s Censored?!

The arcade classic NFL Blitz is the greatest NFL game series since Madden on Genesis. The Midway title delivered fast-paced four-player gridiron action with all the masculinity turned up to 11. You felt like a real man! A manly man as you turn other players into paste on the astroturf!

Pre-orders are available now via Arcade1UP. For the $599.99 asking price, the cabinet includes three Blitz titles: NFL Blitz, Blitz 99, and Blitz 2000. If you don’t have four people around to play, the cabinet is online-enabled for multiplayer! Additionally, the first 1,000 people who order a Blitz cabinet will receive a limited edition NFL Blitz Legends baseball cap.

Now, here’s the bad news. The games have been edited according to Arcade1UP:

To support the NFL’s current Player Health & Safety initiatives, a specific set of tackles and after-the-whistle hits were removed or edited in the remastered versions of NFL Blitz, NFL Blitz ‘99 and NFL Blitz 2000: Gold Edition while maintaining the level of excitement in the original games.

Our remastered version has over 84% of the different hits from the original Blitz, so do not worry, all of the fun chaos is still there.

Well, crap. Why censor a game because of the NFL’s current initiatives? The digital players aren’t getting injured in real life. Maybe this is some sort of legal red tape with all NFL licenses now. Either way, it’s a bit crappy to ask $600 for a censored game that is still available via other means.
