Arcade1UP Moves ‘NFL Blitz’ Censorship Info, Missing From Retailer Listing

This week, before the hurricane hit, I polled my office to see which Arcade1UP cabinet the various teams would like to see me put in our cafe. Turns out that NFL Blitz was the big winner. So, I headed over to Arcade1UP’s website to review the cabinet’s specifics. Not long ago, I had covered the NFL Blitz announcement and noted that the ports of the classic Midway games would be modified due to the NFL’s Player Health and Safety initiatives and removing certain players’ names due to what I expect are rights issues. The biggest concern was that ports of the three included games would be censored to remove certain tackles.

However, when I checked the latest link on the official site, the info about the late tackles was gone from the front page. So, I headed on over to Walmart.com and checked the listing there, too. Again, no information was shown immediately on the product’s page letting me know that the NFL Blitz, NFL Blitz ’99, or NFL Blitz 2000: Gold Edition ports were modified to remove any content. Walmart does cover its backside by having a disclaimer at the end of the specs saying that the information provided has not been verified. Sadly, Walmart does not link directly back to Arcade1UP’s product page, so a customer can quickly check for his/herself.

I had figured that Arcade1UP may have received enough backlash to back peddle on censoring the original titles, or some sort of arrangement was worked out with the NFL. Oh, I was wrong. While waiting out hurricane Ian, I was going over the cabinet’s specs again while I cleared a space for it in the cafe. Then I noticed a link to an FAQ. The first question had the wrong answer, which was a red flag. So, I kept scrolling until I saw the question, “Can you still tackle people after the whistle? AKA late or ‘after the whistle’ hitz?”

NFL Blitz Legends gets straight to the fun with easy-to-understand gameplay that highlights the best parts of the game including Hail Mary’s, interceptions, game-changing tackles, and touchdowns. To support the NFL’s current Player Health & Safety initiatives, a specific set of tackles and after-the-whistle hits were removed or edited in the remastered versions of NFL Blitz, NFL Blitz ‘99 and NFL Blitz 2000: Gold Edition while maintaining the level of excitement in the original games. And, for the first time in the Blitz franchise, players can play on a home arcade machine and compete online with Wi-Fi multiplayer and leaderboards.

Note: >84% of the tackles we all remember (99/117 total tackles) are here to stay.

Why wasn’t this info on the main page?!

Oddly, the original page that we used for our initial coverage of NFL Blitz Legends is still live but is not used when you click on the product from the main page. Why remove the FAQ and put it behind a link rather than on the product’s landing page? The official video for the NFL Blitz cabinet also fails to mention these changes.

My previous attempts to reach out to Arcade1UP were unsuccessful. Over the years, I’ve reached out to the company multiple times with zero response. However, the company’s support portal worked perfectly when the issue was with a faulty product. For whatever reason, Arcade1UP doesn’t like answering questions from journalists.

‘My Master Has No Tail’ Shuffles To HiDive

The comedic historical fantasy manga ‘My Master Has No Tail’ from Kodansha is getting an anime adaption from the Japanese animation studio Liden Films. It is directed by Hideyo Yamamoto and is set to premiere on September 30, 2022. HiDive has announced that they had acquired the license to distribute on their streaming service for a North American audience.

They said on their website that they, “announced today that it acquired exclusive rights to My Master Has No Tail, the anime adaptation of the manga serialized in Kodansha’s good! Afternoon magazine. The series will premiere exclusively on HIDIVE this fall.”

“The colorful world of My Master Has No Tail has been brought to life by animation studio LIDENFILMS (Call of the Night). It is directed by Hideyo Yamamoto (Cells at Work Code Black) with series composition from Touko Machida (Lucky Star). The series stars Hibiku Yamamura (Nanami Kuon in Ya Boy Kongming!) as Bunko and M.A.O (Yukari in Teasing Master Takagi-san) as Mameda,” they added.

The manga that the anime is based on first began publication in 2019.

AniTrendz describes the synopsis as follows,

“The fantasy story takes place in Japan’s Taishō era (1912–1926). It follows Mameda, a shape-shifting tanuki girl who dreams of becoming human. Mameda transforms her outward appearance into a pretty raven-haired human girl and heads to the bustling city of Osaka. However, people instantly see through Mameda’s guise, and one beautiful woman ruthlessly says to the dejected Mameda, “Go back where you came from.” As it turns out, that woman named Bunko is herself a supernatural creature who transformed herself into a rakugo (comic storytelling) storyteller. Mameda begs Bunko to become her master and teach her the ways of playing a human.”

Ryō Yamauchi is working as the character designer and joining the project as the chief animation director.

These New Purgatori And Vampirella 6″ Figures Are Beautiful

Executive Replicas‘ line of comic book action figures doesn’t get enough attention. In a world obsessed with making female comic characters bland, formless, and androgynous, ER is relishing in the shapely forms of Dynamite characters like Vampirella, Lady Death, and Shi. The last time we covered an Executive Replicas figure was when Red Sonja was announced. It appears that the company’s upcoming Vampirella and Purgatori figures use the same body sculpt and internal metal skeleton. That’s not an issue since the outfits for these two characters are unique and look to be finely detailed. I’m guessing that those articles of clothing are completely removable. Oh, someone is gonna be a baaaaaad boy with these.

Cartoon Saloon’s My Father’s Dragon Trailer and Premiere Date Details

Cartoon Saloon’s latest movie finally has an official trailer and premiere date. Unlike the last feature they released, which was 2020’s Wolfwalkers, it will not be going to Apple TV+. Instead, it will be airing on Netflix on November 11th.

From the five-time Academy Award®-nominated animation studio that brought us movies such as The Secret of the Kells, Song of the Sea, and Wolfwalkers, the movie is directed by Nora Twomey, who also directed The Breadwinner and co-directed The Secret of the Kells. My Father’s Dragon is about a boy named Elmer who struggles to cope after a move to the city with his mother. Elmer runs away in search of Wild Island and a young dragon who waits to be rescued. Elmer’s adventures introduce him to ferocious beasts, a mysterious island and the friendship of a lifetime.

Some of the voice casts include Jacob Tremblay as Elmer Elevator, Gaten Matarazzo as Boris the Dragon, Whoopi Goldberg as a cat, and Ian McShane as a gorilla.

Netflix’s My Father’s Dragon is inspired by a 1948 novel written by Ruth Styles Gannett. The illustrations were done by her step-mother, Ruth Chrisman Gannett. The illustrations were done in hand-drawn black and white with a grease crayon on grained paper. The first book was followed up by two books titled Elmer and the Dragon (1950) and The Dragons of Blueland (1951). My Father’s Dragon received a Newbery Honor Book award and an ALA Book award. Ruth Styles Gannett is currently 99 years old, as of August 12th.

This is not the first animated rendition of My Father’s Dragon. In 1997, Japan released an animated adaption called Elmer no Boken: My Father’s Dragon. It was directed by Masami Hata, who’s many credits include directing 1989’s Little Nemo.

He’s eating all the food on planet Pop Star! The glutenous King Dedede is the latest video game character to get its own premium statue from First4Figures. As we’ve come to expect from this company, there are several different editions of Kirby’s classic rival. There are five, in fact. There’s a Standard Edition and Exclusive Edition for King Dedede. There are also Standard and Exclusive Editions of Masked Dedede, too. Finally, a Combo Edition lets you get your hands on both versions of the statue!

Depending on the edition you choose, the prices range from $424.99 to $819.99. The King is expected to arrive during the third quarter of 2023.

Jack Ryan Season 3 Release Date Revealed

Amazon Studios has given an official release date for the third season of their espionage thriller series ‘Jack Ryan.’ According to their social media, all eight episodes of the upcoming season will be dropping on December 21, 2022, via the Prime Video streaming service.

The show stars John Krasinski, who also serves as a co-producer, as the titular CIA analyst, and Wendell Pierce stars as his boss within the Agency, James Greer. It is unknown if season one or two actors such as Noomi Rapace, Abbie Cornish, John Hoogenakker, or Jovan Adepo will return.

However, it has been confirmed that Betty Gabriel, James Cosmo, Peter Guinness, Nina Hoss, and Alexei Mavelo have been cast in the show. Michael Peña and Ding Chavez are also joining the cast and will also receive a spin-off show that is currently in pre-production.

Krasinski celebrated the announcement on his social media, posting, “It’s time! Jack Ryan finally returns on December 21! Here we go!”

Prime Video describes season three as follows,

“Season Three of the action-thriller series finds Jack Ryan on the run and in a race against time. Jack is wrongly implicated in a larger conspiracy and suddenly finds himself a fugitive out in the cold. Now, wanted by both the CIA and an international rogue faction that he has uncovered, Jack is forced underground, crisscrossing Europe, trying to stay alive, while preventing a massive global conflict. In addition to Krasinski, also returning for the third season are Wendell Pierce as James Greer and Michael Kelly as Mike November, and joining the cast are new series regulars Nina Hoss as Alena Kovac and Betty Gabriel as Elizabeth Wright.”

The show is based on a character created by novelist Tom Clancy, who also serves as a producer for the show. Previously, Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine portrayed Jack Ryan.

Marvel Comics released their new pull list and it displays a lot of drama that is happening with Spider-Man, the X-Men, Avengers, and so many others. Individual issues, graphic novels, web comics, and epic crossovers are all getting the spotlight with these releases.

“Judgment Day rages across the Marvel Universe,” Marvel says on their website. “In Kieron Gillen and Federico Vicentini’s A.X.E.: AVENGERS 1 AXE #1, the Progenitor will come for Tony Stark. Mecha Leonardo May Be The Best TMNT Figure Ever!

Heat Boys, a China-based toy company, is getting ready to release its first mecha TMNT figure: Leonardo! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles leader is currently available for pre-order at the Big Bad Toy Store for $169.99. Leo should ship out during the first quarter of 2023.

This robotic Turtle is constructed of diecast and plastic parts. He stands over 9″ tall and comes with several weapons and a “build-a-figure” feature. With each Turtle, you’ll get a few parts to build a small Party Wagon, complete with a small turtle passenger. Leo comes with two tiny turtle figures and the Wagon’s four tires. There’s a chase variant of the build-a-figure that’s molded with translucent green plastic. The little seated Turtle figure can be placed inside the mech’s cockpit … which is located in his shell for some reason.

Leo, the leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is the pilot of the Ninja Turtle TMNT-01, the most powerful mecha with a wide range of equipment: katanas, daggers, a rifle that fires mutagenic potions, two revolvers, darts and a multifunctional tactical shield.
The newly designed frame greatly enhances the range of joint articulation and multiple linkage mechanisms, the fingers and toes are also independently articulated, making the figure possible to pose a variety of classic Ninja Turtle moves. Turtle shell can be unfolded and rotated to reveal the cockpit for driver Leo. Eyes featured with LED can be lighted by mechanical pizza. Die-cast parts are used in many parts to match its heaviness and high stability, making the overall weight of about 1000 grams.

The figure itself is impressive, but the number of accessories really helps ease the pain of that $169 price tag. Collecting all four Turtles is another task, but it may be worth it depending on the quality of these Heat Boys figures. We spotted a bunch of new stylized figures based on Metal Slug 3 pop up at the Big Bad Toy Store. Most of the eight figures are about 4″ tall, and the sub looks to be capable of holding one figure. Each mini figure is priced at $19.99, and they’re expected to ship during the first quarter of 2023. I’m not sure if these are just part of a wave or if we’ll be seeing more figures in the future, but right now, you can pre-order Eri, a Mars Person, Marco, a POW, a Rifle Soldier, the Slug Marine, a Sasquatch (Yeti), and a Marine Diver.

Hopefully, the next wave will give us zombified versions of Marco or Fio. It’s also weird that the Metal Slug is missing from the first batch of figures. I guess Tunshi Studio didn’t want to shoot its entire load right out of the gate, or else you wouldn’t come back to buy more figures.

I’m not sure what it is about the third game in the series, but all the recent merchandise we’ve seen so far stems from the second sequel. Metal Slug 3 was released into arcades in 2000. This addition to the series added branching paths, which added to the replay value, not to mention finding the numerous secrets hidden in said paths. MS3 was the first port of the game I had ever played outside of the arcade. I remember buying a PSP Go just so I could play Metal Slug while I traveled. Yeah, there was no other reason to own that version of the Sony PSP.

Factory Entertainment is expanding its line of scaled prop replicas. We first reported on the line’s launch last year, and now the collection has grown to include franchises like Harry Potter, DCEU, and The Lord of the Rings. In addition, FE’s collectibles allow you to own your favorite replicas at an affordable price. Let’s look at what has been added.

First up, we have the Nimbus 2000 from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The replica measures 7″ in length and is $44.99. The replica comes with a display base and is expected to ship next Spring.

This stunning 7-inch heavy duty scaled prop replica is moulded out of solid metal, features a folding footrest and comes in collector packaging and features a display stand.

The next replica is actually a collection of scaled-down tin signs from the Jurassic World franchise. Apparently, the artwork came straight from Universal Studios, but I can’t remember seeing any of these in the last three films. A set of officially licensed metal warning signs from the Jurassic World universe, featuring artwork provided directly by Universal Studios that features distressing and dino-damage.

Easily one of the most iconic weapons in all of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of The Rings trilogy: Sting! The Elvish dagger was big enough for Bilbo and Frodo to use as a sword. When orcs were about, the blade would glow blue. FE’s replica appears to capture every detail, including the raised leaves on the hilt. The replica is $39.99, measures 6″ long,  and comes with a display base. It is said to be made of solid metal, but the specific type of alloy is not mentioned. I’ve always been disappointed that few replicas of the weapons and gadgets from Men In Black have been produced. Even the smallest weapon, like the Noisy Cricket, has an iconic look. At least the Tri-Barrel Plasma Canon from the film is joining the collection. Maybe we’ll get a replica of Agent K’s other gizmos?

The canon is $59.99 and is expected to ship next Spring.
