‘Masters of the Universe’ Toys Move Into Snake Men Territory

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The MotU Origins line is now introducing the Snake Men. He-Man and Skeletor have new variants based on the 200X series and updated versions of the evil serpents. The MasterVerse is also receiving several classic characters from both Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power (not the creepy abusive relationship one from Netflix).

First up is the latest Sun-Man figure to get a MotU Origins makeover. The Molecule Regenerator “Bolt-Man” was part of the Rulers of the Sun series. Sadly, I’ve yet to see these figures show up on shelves, but they can be ordered through online outlets like Entertainment Earth. Mattel is using the Snakemen story arc to introduce more of Sun-Man’s characters, and I hope the toy line lasts long enough to see the entire roster make an appearance.

Mattel

Mattel is dipping back into the 200X line for new versions of established characters. Skeletor and his Snake Armor are now making an appearance in the Origins line.

Mattel

He-Man will also be joining the fun with his 200X-inspired Snake Armor. So does this mean that Snake Man-At-Arms and Snake Teela will be on the way?

Mattel

As fun as it is to have a new He-Man or Skeletor, the real draw of this wave is the Snake Men. What I’m confused by is the lack of King Hiss. Perhaps he’ll be a deluxe figure that will be announced later? In the meantime, we’ve got Rattlor. His play feature is still included from the original, but it’s in the form of a swappable neck rather than a mechanical one building into the figure’s torso.

My favorite Snake Man is finally part of Origins! Back during the original MotU line, Kobra Khan had the best play feature. You filled his torso with water, and his head acted as a sprayer. I don’t know why I liked that so much as a kid, but we’d always use him to hose down our action figures that got dirty while playing outside.

Unfortunately, the spray figure is gone. The figure retains his original head shape, but Kobra Khan now comes with a static venom effects part instead of shooting water. Oh, well.

That wraps up the Origins figures. Next, let’s move on to the MasterVerse line. First up is the MotU Revelation version of Roboto. The cybernetic hero looks like his classic figure and Filmation counterpart, except he has no internal moving parts.

Mattel
Mattel

Man-E-Faces is here, finally! Now he actually lives up to his name! Rather than having the standard three spinning faces, the heroic actor comes with six, including his original. In addition, it appears that Man-E-Faces can wear two additional faces at a time, and the remaining three can be stored in a case that he can wear on his back.

Mattel
Mattel

Oh, look! It’s Stratos. Moving on.

Mattel

More Princess of Power figures are coming to the MasterVerse. She-Ra and CatRa have already hit shelves, and next, we’ll see Frosta. This Frosta looks much more like her Filmation version than the original Mattel toy, but she does include the pinwheel staff thingie.

Mattel

Here’s something interesting. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe TV series is now getting in on the MastersVerse action. I’ve not watched much of the show, but I’m glad to see that Kevin Smith’s BS didn’t poison the well for newcomers. In fact, I really like the new design for He-Man.

Mattel

Joining the new He-Man is the very impressive new Skeletor. Much like his redesign for the 200X show, this version of the evil servant of Hordak is badass. Let’s hope these two figures were engineered well enough so the tiny legs can hold up the huge torsos.

Mattel

Finally, we have Hordak. He has ditched his Mattel paint job in favor of the Filmation palette. He also includes an alternate right-arm cannon.

New From Figma AF: Metroid Dread’s Samus Aran

Figma AF has teamed with Previews to bring a new, highly articulated, high-priced Samus Aran action figure! Based on her appearance in the Nintendo Switch game Metroid Dread, Samus comes with all the accessories needed to make her the centerpiece of your action figure collection. Or even your refrigerator.

Aside from coming with interchangeable hands/cannons, this Figma AF entry includes a “Spider Magnet” base that allows Samus to cling onto metal surfaces. The base is, indeed, magnetized; however, the anchor points for the figure are molded to it, limiting how you can pose Samus. Luckily, the figure is packed with a standard display base and armature, allowing you to pull off various poses while adding stability.

Now the kicker. Like most Figma AF collectibles, Samus is priced above $100. However, if you pre-order her from Previews World before November 7th, you can get her for $144.99. She’s expected to be on store shelves by December 27th, 2023.

The strongest warrior in the galaxy joins the figma series once again. From the Nintendo Switch game Metroid Dread comes a figma action figure of the main character, Samus Aran! Using the smooth yet posable joints of figma, you can create a variety of poses from the game. A flexible plastic is used for important areas, allowing proportions to be kept without compromising posability. In addition to Morph Ball and Omega Cannon parts, a Spider Magnet figure base that can be used to pose Samus sticking on walls is included. The Spider Magnet base is made with magnets. A gripping hand part, open hand part and multi-purpose hand part are all included. The figure’s knee joints are made with specially designed double joint parts. An articulated figma stand is included to display the figma in a variety of poses.

I’m not a fan of the color scheme Samus starts off with in Dread, but further along in the game, she does get armor that’s more in line with her classic orange getup. I hope Figma AF releases that version; then they can have my money. What do you think of the figure and price? Let us know below.

Super7’s Ultimates Pits Godzilla VS Destoroyah

Super7 has revealed two of its most expensive Ultimates figures this year: a $195 set of 1200°C Godzilla and Destoroyah. Why so pricey? Because you’ll pay for it! Nah, just kidding. The third wave of the Toho Ultimates figures delivers some of the largest figures so far in the series.

Destoroyah, including his wing span, measures 13.8″ across by 9.6″ tall. This tail puts its length at 14.1″. Get ready to drop $110 on just him alone. Godzilla, on the other hand, is much smaller, not only in price but in scale. The King is $85 and measures 8″ tall and a tail length of 14″.

If you’re familiar with the 1995 film, you know that Godzilla didn’t melt until after his battle with Destoroyah. However, it makes sense to include this version of the King of the Monsters because his “death” was such an iconic scene from the film. It’s a shame that the figure doesn’t include a light-up feature to recreate Godzilla’s final moments. Oh well.

Wave 3 is expected to debut in Fall 2023. Preorders will be taken until November 4th, 2022.

Super7’s latest wave of Toho ULTIMATES! figures feature 1200°C Godzilla and Destoroyah, inspired by the 1995 film Godzilla vs Destoroyah. The JSDF had to resort to a desperate scheme to get these two Kaiju in the same place.

Melty Godzilla only has two accessories:

  • 2x interchangeable heads
    • 1x Battle damaged head
    • 1x Skull head
Super7

It’s the living embodiment of the Oxygen Destroyer, the only weapon to have ever (spoiler alert!) killed a Godzilla!

Destoroyah comes with the following:

  • 2x interchangeable heads
    • 1x Neutral head
    • 1x Angry head
  • 4x interchangeable claws
    • 2x Closed claws
    • 2x Open claws
  • 3x Juveniles

FNAF Has A New Director, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Onboard

0

The tale of getting Five Nights At Freddy’s from the small to the big screen has been long. Chris Columbus was supposed to direct at one point, but that was four years ago. So I wouldn’t blame you if you considered the adaptation lost, especially after social media tried to cancel the series creator. However, new life (or “gifts”) have been bestowed on Freddy and his friends.

Emma Tammi, who directed two episodes of Hulu’s Into The Dark, has been tapped to helm the long-awaited Five Night At Freddy’s adaptation, according to Deadline. Although she may not have limited experience in the director’s chair, she’ll have some help from the special effects masters at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Honestly, this is the only company I would trust to meet the “family-friendly” to “f’ing terrifying” turns the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza animatronics undergo after the lights turn off.

We have some good news for those worried if the story of the haunted robots is in good hands. Tammi and the series creator, Scott Cawthon, have met, and she received his seal of approval saying:

“In meeting with Emma, I felt she had a great understanding of the franchise, and really felt that she could craft something that would please the fanbase and keep people on the edge of their seats.”

Considering the simple premise of the games, it’s surprising that a film has not already been made. It is slightly concerning that this will be a Blumhouse production. The company’s films are not known for having the best budgets, but a good director can work wonders with little money. The right mix of atmosphere and tension is key. Also, only using Freddy, Chica, Foxy, and Bonnie when necessary may deliver a great horror film. Or we could get another Willy’s Wonderland.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of people have been hounding Blumhouse’s CEO, Jason Blum, about getting this movie off the ground:

“Five Nights at Freddy’s is more consistently asked about than any other film I’ve ever worked on, and I’m thrilled to confirm it’s finally happening! With Emma Tammi at the helm, we’re committed to making Scott’s vision of the movie come to life. Rest assured, it will be and is worth the wait.”

So will you be watching the FNAF film when it is finally released?

The movie’s production studio Pierrot has dropped a trailer revealing the title as ‘Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.’ The trailer features flashy sequences from the feature and concludes with protagonist Asta raising his swords for battle before the release date is announced as March 31, 2023.

You can watch the trailer for the film below:

Anime Senpai has also noted that, in a precedented move, the movie will be released in Japan and on Netflix the same day. Often, international anime fans are forced to wait for varying lengths before they can see a film, but this time, fans of the fantasy series will get closure for the epic series.

A visual image from the film was also leaked via ‘Weekly Shonen Jump’ Issue 46 which shows a sketch of Asta raising his sword, ready for magical combat.

The movie will be directed by Ayataka Tanemura with Johnny Otoda and Ai Orii handling the script. The character designs are being done by Itsuko Takeda with Minako Seki scoring the film.

AniList describes the television show synopsis as follows,

“In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!”

The anime was named in the “Top 100 best anime of the 2010s” by Crunchyroll.

Marvel Comics Promotes Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine in New Comic Book. Backlash Ensues.

0

Marvel Comics has teamed up with Pfizer and BioNTech to produce a brand new Avengers comic called “Avengers: Everyday Heroes” which serves as a way to help promote the COVID-19 vaccination.

Written by Paul Allor and art by Pico Diaz, the story sees Marvel villain Ultron reading havoc on the city as the Avengers fight him off. Meanwhile, a group of patients at a hospital compare how Ultron keeps coming back to how the COVID-19 virus also keeps coming back. They claim that if you keep up on your vaccinations that you will be able to beat back the virus, just like how the Avengers beat back Ultron.

The comic is made available digitally for free for everyone to read via the official Pfizer Twitter account and Marvel’s website.

However, shortly after the announcement was made the tweet saw massive pushback online, getting massively “ratioed” via the replies and in quote tweets. While many of the replies are being hidden by Pfizer the quote tweets are still visible.

Many responses criticize the push for the controversial treatment which has been heavily politicized over the past couple years. Many also criticizing the promotion of big Pharma corporations. The fact that Pfizer has become such a controversial company in recent months doesn’t help.

Yes, it is true that in the past in shows like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and G.I. Joe used to have P.S.A.s at at end of each episode, but this is an outright advertisement for a specific pharmaceutical product from a controversial provider.

In 2017, Marvel cancelled a similar promotional comic book for defense contractor Northrop Grumman due to Twitter backlash.
