The romantic comedy anime ‘Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out’ got a second season from the Japanese animation studio ENGI that was released in October 2022. Crunchyroll had previously released an English dub version of the first season and announced that they would be dubbing the second with some new voice actors and returning ones.

They revealed the cast list on their website:

  • Monica Rial (Alice in Combatants Will Be Dispatched!) as Hana Uzaki
  • Ricco Fajardo (Taiju in Dr. STONE) as Shinichi Sakurai (with David Matranga voice matching for Episode 1)
  • Jad Saxton (Chika in Kaguya-sama: Love is War) as Ami Asai
  • Kent Williams (Noi in Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) as Akihiko Asai
  • Terri Doty (Kyoko in Interviews with Monster Girls) as Tsuki Uzaki

You can watch the trailer below:

The first season of ‘Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out’ has twelve episodes that ran in 2020. Kazuya Miura is the series director and Takashi Aoshima is the show writer. Both returned for the second season.

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“At the start of her freshman year in college, Hana Uzaki reunites with Shinichi Sakurai, an upperclassman who was in the same club as her during her high school days. However, much to her surprise, the once active senior has ended up becoming a “lonesome” student, preferring to spend his free time in quiet peace.

Uzaki does whatever she can to keep Sakurai from being “alone,” from convincing him to go to the movies to going to his part-time workplace. While Sakurai finds her irritating and tiresome, he still goes along with Uzaki’s hijinks and shenanigans, even if he knows that her perky personality will only lead the two of them into various comical situations.

Even so, as the days pass by, their relationship only gets better, to the point where people around them misinterpret them to be a couple. At any rate, whenever Uzaki wants to hang out with her upperclassman, fun and adorable wackiness is sure to follow!”

The series is based on a manga written by Take and published by Fujimi Shobo. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the stories in North America.

Wakanda Is “Rediscovered” In Marvel’s New Pull List

0

The Avengers, X-Men, and the Eternals still march toward Judgement Day. Daredevil and Elektra continue to explore their relationship as they battle The Hand. Black Panther gets banished from Wakanda as the world rediscovers it. All of these stories are explored in the new Marvel Universe pull list for individual comic book issues and graphic novels.

“This week’s Marvel comics will show a new side of Wakanda,” they said on their website. “The Black Panther is no longer welcome in Wakanda! Who is this proud nation without its king? Launching this week with WAKANDA (2022) #1, this exciting new miniseries answers that question as each issue spotlights a different fan-favorite Wakandan character. First up: Shuri proves that being without the Black Panther doesn’t mean Wakanda is without heroes to protect it—and that there is a reason she too once wielded the power. Plus, part one of the “History of the Black Panthers” backup story, providing for the first time anywhere a definitive overview of every Wakandan who has ever held the mantle of the Black Panther!”

‘Doom Patrol’ is returning to HBO Max for a fourth season which will see the group of DC Comics misfits working together to fight crime once again. The new season will begin streaming with two episodes on December 8, 2022, followed by the rest of the six episodes arriving weekly starting on January 5, 2023.

The show stars Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Joivan Wade, and Michelle Gomez.

You can watch the trailer below:

Warner Media describes the synopsis as follows,

“DOOM PATROL reimagines one of DC’s most beloved groups of superheroes: “Robotman” aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser), “Negative Man” aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer), “Elasti-Woman” aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby), “Crazy Jane” (Diane Guerrero), “Cyborg” aka Victor Stone (Joivan Wade), joined by former super villain “Madame Rouge” aka Laura de Mille (Michelle Gomez). Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities, but also left them scarred and disfigured. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Season Four opens with the team unexpectedly traveling to the future to find an unwelcome surprise. Faced with their imminent demise, the Doom Patrol must decide once and for all which is more important: their own happiness or the fate of the world?”

The show originally appeared in DC Universe as a spin-off of the show ‘Titans.’ Starting with season two, ‘Doom Patrol’ moved to HBO Max. Former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton played The Chief, the team’s original leader who was killed off at the end of season three.

‘Doom Patrol’ is based on the DC Comics that debuted in a 1963 issue of ‘My Greatest Adventure.’ The team was created by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney, and Bruno Premiani.

Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers with Kilter Films handling production. They released the trailer at New York City Comic-Con.

You can watch the trailer for the show below:

The show stars Chloë Grace Moretz (The Miseducation of Cameron Post), Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Gary Carr (The Deuce), Eli Goree (One Night in Miami…), Louis Herthum (Westworld), JJ Feild (TURN: Washington’s Spies), T’Nia Miller (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders), Alexandra Billings (The Conners), Adelind Horan (The Deuce), Alex Hernandez (UnREAL), Katie Leung (Chimerica), Julian Moore-Cook (Peaky Blinders), Melinda Page Hamilton (Messiah), Chris Coy (The Deuce), and Austin Rising (Alt).

Amazon describes the synopsis as follows,

“Flynne Fisher (Chloe Grace Moretz), her Marine veteran brother, Burton (Jack Reynor), and their dying mother live in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains in 2032. As their mother’s health deteriorates and the medical bills add up, Flynne and Burton make extra money playing simulations (“Sims”). The two siblings share Burton’s avatar, “jockeying” for high-paying customers to beat challenging game levels. When Burton is offered a chance to beta test a new Sim, it’s Flynne who ends up playing, pretending to be her brother. The Sim takes place in London and it tasks Flynne with breaking into a corporation known as the Research Institute—to steal a valuable secret. When the assignment goes wrong, Flynne begins to realize the Sim is more real than she ever could have imagined. The London she’s exploring exists in the future… the year 2099. And what Flynne has uncovered in the Research Institute has put her and her family in grave peril. There are people from the future who want to use Flynne for the information she’s stolen… and there are others who want Flynne dead. Flynne encounters Wilf (Gary Carr) in Future London, a man who may be the key to unlocking the mystery at hand. But first, in her present, Flynne and Burton, along with his former elite military unit, must rally to save themselves from forces intent on killing them—forces sent from the future to reclaim the vital secret Flynne stole.”

The television show is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by William Gibson.

‘Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time: Super Extra’ Heads To HiDive

0

The second season of the harem comedy ‘Peter Grill’ titled ‘Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time: Super Extra’ has found a new streaming home with HiDive, who will release it to a North American audience.

“You’re reading this post because you like risqué comedies, and Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time: Super Extra (Peter Grill to Kenja no Jikan: Super Extra) has that in spades. It’s even in the title of the 2nd season if you’re into acronyms,” HiDive said on their website.

Directed by Tatsumi, Wolfsbane animation studio produced the first season of the show which featured thirteen short episodes. Nora Mōri works on the show as a writer with Rui Ishige handling character design. Animation Studio Seven is working on the second season production as well.

The anime is based on a manga written and illustrated by Daisuke Hiyama. It has been published by the Tokyo-based company Futabasha for their magazine ‘Monthly Action’ since 2017. Seven Seas Entertainment produces the volumes in North America.

You can watch the trailer below:

AniList describes the synopsis as follows,

“Peter Grill is back and ready for action! Between quelling a goblin incursion, improving trade negotiations with the dwarves and placating a watchful sister who might just go berserk to keep him in line, Peter has his work cut out for him. He’s the most sought-after hero in the land…and that’s before counting the myriad woman interested in his “other” talents. It will take every last scrap of Peter’s willpower to keep his focus on heroing in another raunchy season of Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time – Super Extra!”

The manga and anime spun off a mobile RPG game based on the series titled ‘Pītā Guriru to Kenja no Jikan Teisō no Mamoribito’ and known in English as ‘Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time – Defender of Virtue.’

Donatello Is The Invisible Man … Err … Turtle

0

The final Turtle has been revealed in NECA’s TMNT X Universal Monsters toy line! We knew for a while that Donatello would be taking on the role of the Invisible Man, but we had little to go on. It turns out that the figure is coming with fewer accessories than I had expected.

The 7″ tall figure does come with the expected bandaged appendages, but there’s no “invisible” head. There’s not even one that lets you recreate the scene from the classic film where Dr. Jack Griffin tears off the gauze to show that nothing is hiding beneath. Instead, his shell is translucent, and a couple of pieces of pizza float around there. Is that where turtles digest their food? Maybe it’s storage like the Igor Leo figure? Unfortunately, the pictures don’t clarify this.

Donnie comes with the following accessories:

  • Interchangeable bandaged heads
  • Interchangeable translucent hands and feet
  • Microscope
  • Bo staff
  • TGRI journal
  • Glass,
  • Hat

Donatello will miss Halloween and is slated to show up in April 2023. He can be pre-ordered now through Entertainment Earth.

Universal’s The Invisible Man is based on H. G. Wells’s 1897 story of the same name. The film debuted in 1933 and featured Claude Rains as Dr. Jack Griffin. The movie showed off some impressive visual effects for the time. This figure also marks the last of the four main Turtles to get the Universal Monsters treatment.

So, which character from TMNT will be next? Casey Jones is yet to show up. Maybe he’ll be Victor Von Frankenstein since April got to be the Bride? Shredder certainly needs to appear since no TMNT baddies have shown up yet. My money is still on Shredder being Dracula. Not only is that one of Universal’s most recognizable monster films, but it makes perfect sense as Splinter is Van Helsing.

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“The greedy samurai lord Daigo Kagemitsu’s land is dying, and he would do anything for power, even renounce Buddha and make a pact with demons. His prayers are answered by 12 demons who grant him the power he desires by aiding his prefecture’s growth, but at a price. When Kagemitsu’s first son is born, the boy has no limbs, no nose, no eyes, no ears, nor even skin—yet still, he lives.

This child is disposed of in a river and forgotten. But as luck would have it, he is saved by a medicine man who provides him with prosthetics and weapons, allowing for him to survive and fend for himself. The boy lives and grows, and although he cannot see, hear, or feel anything, he must defeat the demons that took him as sacrifice. With the death of each one, he regains a part of himself that is rightfully his. For many years he wanders alone, until one day an orphan boy, Dororo, befriends him. The unlikely pair of castaways now fight for their survival and humanity in an unforgiving, demon-infested world.”

The show was previously adapted in 1969 by Mushi Production for twenty-six episodes.

King Hiss & Thunder Punch He-Man Finally Join Masters Of The Universe Origins

0

I called it! King Kiss is finally here, and he’s a deluxe action figure. The new spin on a classic Masters of the Universe figure sees the leader of the Snake Men retain many of his play features, but you’ll have to keep track of several interchangeable parts. Rather than featuring all of the snake parts hidden under a splitting torso, the snake head and arms are now separate parts. The snake’s torso is still hidden under King Hiss’s chest armor, and the King’s head retains those funny, bitty eyes.

This design is far better than what we saw in the MotU Classics version, where the entirety of the torso was a separate part. It’s too bad that Hiss does not come with an alternate 200X head, but we’ll probably see that version show up in the MasterVerse line. We spotted the figure come up for pre-order at the Big Bad Toy Store, priced at $23.99. Expect him to ship in January.

In addition to King Hiss, another He-Man is on the way! Thunder Punch He-Man was one of the more exciting versions of the Strongest Man In The Universe. The original toy allowed you to put ring caps in his backpack, so when his play feature was activated, there was a large pop and smoke. Sadly, Mattel isn’t resurrecting that specific feature with Origin’s edition of Thunder Punch He-Man. Oh, well. At least the details on his chest armor pay homage to the original toy and the area where you’d load the tiny explosives. This deluxe figure is $23.99 and is also expected out in January. He comes with an effect part for his fist, a chrome shield, and a golden Power Sword.
