HiDive To Stream Anime ‘Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor’ English Dub

0

‘Gambling Apocalypse: Kaiji’ is a thriller manga created by Nobuyuki Fukumoto for the Tokyo-based publishing company Kodansha. Beginning in 1996, it has had several continuations and spin-offs. In 2007, the Japanese entertainment studio Nippon TV commissioned an anime that ran for twenty-six episodes under the title ‘Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor.’ Though appearing on various North American apps, HiDive has announced that they had acquired the rights and would produce a dub.

They revealed the cast list on their website:

  • Kaiji – Jeremy Gee
  • Narrator – David Wald
  • Mr. Tonegawa – Dave Harbold
  • Endo – David Matranga
  • Hyodo – Marty Fleck
  • Furuhata – Tyler Galindo
  • Ando – Sean Patrick Judge
  • Funai – Gabriel Regojo
  • Kitami – Scott Gibbs
  • Okabayashi – Chris Hutchison
  • Ishida – John Swasey
  • Hyena – Bobby Haworth
  • Takada – Matthew Rudd
  • Sakai – Jay Hickman
  • Zawa Voice – Kyle Colby Jones
  • MIB Kawasaki – Ty Mahany
  • MIB Ogino – John Gremillion

Kyle Colby Jones will work on the program as the ADR director and co-writer for the English dub.

You can watch the trailer below:

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“After one of his coworkers fails to repay a debt, apathetic bum Kaiji Itou is pressured by loan sharks to settle the large sum of cash. Since Kaiji has little money and no future prospects of his own, he is unable to return what his colleague borrowed. Faced with massive financial burdens, Kaiji is given an offer to board the illustrious Espoir—it is said that “one night aboard the ship, and all of your debts will be paid.”

What seems like a simple night of gambling quickly turns into a game of strategy and betrayal. With the losers of the tournament being subjected to a backbreaking life of indebted servitude, Kaiji must choose his actions—and allies—carefully. However, this is only the beginning of a series of gambles that will wager Kaiji’s life, testing the full extent of his wits and will to survive.”

The show was followed by a second anime ‘Kaiji: Against All Rules’ in 2011 also by Nippon TV.

Alpha 5 Joins Super7’s ‘Power Rangers’ ReAction Figures

Wave 4 of Super7’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ReAction figures is here. The series continues to focus on the early years of Saban’s retooled Super Sentai show by introducing the White Ranger, Alpha 5, a Dragon Shield-clad Black Ranger, Lord Zedd’s Putty, and the White Tigerzord. Each 3.75″ figure is priced at $20. The TigerZord, which is 6″ tall, is $24. The entire set can be ordered for $104.

Ay-yi-yi-yi! Alpha 5 is out of the Command Center! Something must be seriously wrong in Angel Grove!

Super7

Bad oysters can ruin anyone’s day, but when he falls victim to the Oysterizer’s acid attack, the Mighty Morphin Black Ranger needs the Dragon Shield to regenerate and vanquish the evil bi-valve menace!

Super7

Lord Zedd knew Rita Repulsa’s Putty Patrollers were pretty useless against the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, so he created the much stronger Z Putties in an attempt to get the upper hand.

Super7

When the White Tigerzord transforms into Warrior Mode, you know things are going to get serious! This Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ReAction Figure of the White Tigerzord in Warrior Mode is an impressive 6” tall, with metallic paint detail and the Golden Sword accessory.

The big mistake with this wave is not making Alpha 5’s light up. Even if an LED would be too expensive, at least give him some light piping. At least the fourth series rounds out the core Rangers and main villains. Does this mean Wave 5 will provide us with the Angel Grove kids in street clothes? Will Bulk and Skull finally join the lineup? When will Zordon show up? Will he be part of a playset? Who is buying these things anyway?

Really. Who? Whenever I check the stores to see what’s new, Super7 figures are usually fully packed on the pegs. Is the most extensive customer base buying them directly online rather than digging through the messy collectibles aisle at Target? Let us know your thoughts below.

Gandalf and Shadowfax Join Asmus Toys’ The Crown Series

0

Asmus Toys’ The Lord of the Rings Crown Series has added a new figure to its lineup. The company’s first figure in the series was an impressive 12″ tall version of Gandalf the Grey. While the Wandering Wizard looked great, he pales compared to the White Wizard and his equestrian companion. He is Gandalf the White, and he comes back to us now at the turn of the tide … to take our money. Gandalf is not alone in this task. With him is the lord of all horses, Shadowfax.

Sadly, Shadowfax is a solid polystone statue and cannot be posed. However, Gandalf more than makes up for it with his numerous accessories, 36 points of articulation, and finely tailored clothing. The duo is already sold out on Asmus Toys’ official website; however, some are still available from the Big Bad Toy Store. The Gandalf the White and Shadowfax set is priced at $380 and is expected to ship sometime between January and March of next year.

Numskull’s ‘Space Invaders’ 1/4 Scale Cabinets Are A Tad Pricy

Numskull has announced two new 1/4 scale classic arcade cabinets, and they’re on the pricy side. Coming next year are two of Taito’s greatest and most influential titles: Space Invaders & Space Invaders Part II. The mini cabinets almost perfectly replicate the original machines’ features, right down to the Pepper’s Ghost effect. It comes at a price, though. For each 17″ tall arcade cabinet, get ready to shell out $339.99.

The two machines are available for pre-order at the Big Bad Toy Store and should arrive around August 2023. Previously, the company had released near-perfect miniature replicas of Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and other NAMCO titles. I owned a couple of these and found them to be worth the cost at the time, around $200-$250. This newest price point is a bit much. The construction is solid, and the cabs make great display pieces. However, you can pick up a used or even new Arcade1UP machine for the same price.

Mondo To Release A 1:6 Scale ‘Masters of the Universe’ Panthor

Last month we covered the release of Mondo’s massive 1:6 scale Battle Cat. Now the company is showing off a rival Panthor at DesignerCon. Mondo posted a single picture of Skeletor riding the purple feline on Instagram. Much like the new Battle Cat, Panthor features multiple interchangeable heads and variations of the original Mattel toy’s armor.

I’d feel safe saying that when this figure is up for pre-order, Panthor will also include a 1:6 scale Skeletor. The one in the picture below looks a bit different than the version we saw for sale a while ago, at least as far as the head sculpt goes. The armor seems mostly the same but with a black color scheme instead of purple.

Panthor’s body will probably be identical to Battle Cats. We can see that the body armor/saddle is the same, but just in a different color. I’m okay with that. The heads are undoubtedly different, for sure. The release date appears to be this spring. So, the figures should be going up for pre-order soon.

Battle Cat sold out very quickly. The $499 figure measured 18″ long by 12″ tall. Mondo’s artists and designers also threw in a Cringer head and even a Cringer kitten figure. However, the little touches make the hefty price tag worth it. Panthor probably won’t have a kitten accessory, but he is getting a mantle with massive ram horns. Expect the price for Skeletor’s steed to be the same as Battle Cat’s.

Attendees could purchase a limited edition 1:6 scale Anti Eternia He-Man during the convention. The figure was going for $235 and was limited to only 1,500 pieces.

Mondo also showcased other figures at DisgnerCon, including Man-Thing:

Lots of Godzilla merchandise:

Did you pre-order Battle Cat last month? If not, will you try to pick up a Panthor? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hasbro Puts Rarely Seen X-Men Baddies In A Legends Boxset

Hasbro is starting to dig deep into the Marvel catalog for Legends figures. Sadly, if you were a fan of certain X-Men characters like Stryfe or Vertigo, you’ll need to buy this $124.99 box set to bring them home. The X-Men Villains set, which will ship in May next year, includes Stryfe, Zero, Pretty Boy, Vertigo, and Random.

The figures, as is to be expected from the Marvel Legends series, are lite on accessories. Strive, Polaris, Vertigo, and Pretty Boy have two pairs of interchangeable hands. Pretty boy comes with two pistols and firing/smoke effects. Zero comes with a large warp portal effects piece. Oddly, we don’t get an alternate “reveal” head for Stryfe.

Stryfe and Random showed up in Toy Biz’s long-running X-MEN line of action figures from the ’90s. What was Stryfe’s play feature? His gigantic helmet rolled up to reveal that the mutant was a clone of Cable. Aside from having the typical superhuman attributes found in many characters from that era, Stryfe also had psionic powers. However, these things are a bit difficult to show in a toy unless they’re physical manifestations of weapons. Instead, the original toy came with a giant mace. He can still be picked up on a card for less than $20 on eBay. Random fared a little better. His figure came out in 1994 when the Toy Biz line was getting more detailed and less cheap looking. His play feature was just a spring-loaded arm cannon.

Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla VS King Caesar In One Box Set!

I was on the fence regarding Mezco’s 5 Points series. So far, nothing really caught my eye. Well, that was until this morning when I saw that the series was going to release a Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla boxset that also included King Caesar! That’s how you get my money! Coming next Summer, the $65 box set consists of the three main kaiju from Jun Fukuda’s 1974 film and several FX parts to recreate several iconic battles. Sadly, Anguirus sits this one out, but Mechagodzilla makes up by coming with several accessories!

Mezco does not list how tall these figures are, but after checking out some reviews, they appear to be slightly larger than the typical 3.75″ action figure size and closer to the 1:12 scale. There are no diorama pieces included in this set, just Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, and King Caesar. If you’re looking for a set that comes with some small buildings, check out the Godzilla VS Hedorah set from earlier this year.

Exo-6’s Admiral James T. Kirk Figure Is Already Sold Out!

No sooner was Star Trek: The Motion Picture‘s Admiral Kirk available for pre-order was he sold out. I’d been keeping my eye on EXO-6’s site all launch day, and somehow, between refreshes, James T. Kirk in his ’70s spaceware came and went. If Kirk were still available, he would have cost $175 plus $25 in shipping.

The 1:6 scale version of Admiral Kirk was noticeably light on accessories. The figure only came with his accurately tailored Starfleet Admiral’s uniform, badge, boots, and bio-monitor. There’s no doubt that the artists at EXO-6 got this depiction of Kirk just as right as when he ventured on his first cinematic journey abroad, the newly refitted Enterprise 1701-A.

Thankfully, EXO-6 included a screen-accurate 1:1 delta badge from Fansets to compensate for the lack of phasers and other Star Trek technology. If Kirk again comes up for pre-order, we’ll update you here at Clownfish TV.

Now The Captain that started it all makes his first appearance as an EXO-6 Museum Quality 1/6 scale collectible figure from EXO-6.  Depicted in his formal Admiral’s uniform, we see Kirk in his first appearance in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, recreating the look he had as he beheld his true love, the Enterprise, in all her refitted beauty.

  • Fully Articulated Body: More than 30 points of articulation allow the figure to be displayed in multiple dynamic poses, approximately 30 cm tall.
  • Realistic Portrait: Kirk’s deep affection for the Enterprise is evident on the face of this figure. Lovingly rendered by a top artist, this excellent likeness of William Shatner as Kirk is specially hand-painted.
  • Starfleet Formal Admiral’s Uniform: Meticulously researched, this duty uniform matches the pattern and color of the original costume recreated in 1:6 scale. Debated for years, the color of this film costume comes as close as possible to the actual set used colors that appeared on screen as grey or green, depending on the lighting in the scene. An authentically scaled bio-monitor is permanently affixed to the belt area.
  • Boots: Soft plastic boots sculpted to match the cut and style of the original movie footwear.
  • Display Base: A hexagonal display base will provide additional support for the figure.
