I Pity The Fool Who Doesn’t Buy Clubber Lang’s Statue!

0

I mean, if you’ve got $1,300 sitting around, why wouldn’t you spend it on a 1:3 scale statute of Mr. T as Rocky Balboa’s rival Clubber Lang? PCS has once again created a knockout recreation of an iconic character. This may be one of the greatest Clubber collectibles ever made, from Mr. T’s signature mohawk down to the determined stare. And it should be for that price.

Lang stands 27″ tall and is decked out in the blue boxers he wore when he first fought Rocky Balboa and stripped him of his title. The statue also comes with a towel and robe, complete with “Clubber Lang South Side Slugger” stitched on the back. The robe comes with a separate stand. The statue is expected to ship between June and August of this year. It can be pre-ordered through Sideshow Collectibles.

Clubber Lang, in my opinion, was Rocky Balboa’s meanest opponent. The antagonist of Rocky III didn’t care about Balboa, nor did he harbor any ill will toward the Italian Stallion. Clubber only wanted to keep what was his: the world heavyweight champion title. The character was perfect for Mr. T and his no-nonsense attitude. In the man’s words, “I don’t hate Balboa. I pity the fool, and I will destroy any man who tries to take what I got!

I like the touch of having the base Clubber stands on being Rocky’s black and yellow Italian Stallion logo. The only thing I hope gets fixed when this ships is the blue color used on Clubber’s boxers. It’s way too light. In the film, they were a darker blue, matching the stripes on his socks.

Tomax, Xamot, and Raven Join Super7’s G.I. Joe ReAction Figures

0

Super7’s G.I. Joe ReAction figure line is still churning out figures. Wave 5 has a few familiar faces, and some fan favorites are showing up for the first time. This time around, we’re getting twins Xamot and Tomax, Mutt & Junkyard, and a first-ever action figure of COBRA’s Raven!

Wave 5 also includes three infantry-builder characters: Red Laser, a camo Cobra Trooper, and G.I. Joe Military Policeman. Each comes with a weapon. Red Laser comes with a standard laser-blaster pistol. The trooper has a blaster rifle. The MP is equipped with an M16-styled “blaster.”

Photo Credit: Super 7Along with some newcomers, a few previous characters reenlist for this 5th wave, including Duke and Snake Eyes. Technically, these two are returning with modifications to match their appearance in the episode The Vines of Evil (see below). Duke has a “totally not a lightsaber,” ankle controller, and controller stick. Snake Eye has more excellent accessories: a soft goods net, glow-in-the-dark trident, ankle controller, and control stick.

All the figures from this new wave are available now!

Should Super7 make a COBRA gladiator arena from that episode? Put some LEDs in the floor and make it and the antenna glow red? Work in a classic Kenner gimmick similar to moving figure stands to simulate combat? I’d buy it.

Yes, these ReAction figures are still at the new price point of $20 each. But, surprisingly, Junkyard and Mutt bundled together at that price. It makes me wonder what metrics Super7 uses when determining the MSRP of the retro-styled action figures. Could we please get more accessories with the other figures if this is the case?

Since this line focuses on characters as they appeared in the G.I. Joe animated series, what cartoon-specific figures would you like to see show up in the next wave? Maybe mutated Cobra Commander? Let us know below!

Next For NECA: The Bride of Frankenstein and Steel Clan Robots!

0

NECA has announced two new figures for the Universal Monsters and Disney’s Gargoyles toylines.

NECA’s latest Universal Monster is the “Ultimate” Bride of Frankenstein. This version is in color, which sort of takes away from her iconic hairdo. However, the artists at NECA did capture Elsa Lanchester’s look quite well. The Bride also has two alternate heads, hands, and additional bandages.

The Bride of Frankenstein debuted four years after Universal’s iconic Frankenstein in 1935. Henry Frankenstein, who is thought dead after the events of the previous film, is nursed back to health by his soon-to-be wife, Elizabeth. Unfortunately, Henry’s creation, the Monster, has also survived and is again on the loose. Upon being found by Doctor Septimus Pretorius, the Monster and his new “friend” plan on creating a mate for Frankenstein’s creation. The experiment succeeds, but the newly created Bride is not at all attracted to the Monster.

The Bride is expected to arrive in stores this June.

The debut of Universal’s 1935 film The Bride of Frankenstein promised audiences something “more fearful than the monster himself”!

The Gargoyles line from NECA continues to grow with the introduction of the Steel Clan Robot. These figures act as the first army-builder characters for the toy line. Created by David Xanatos, the Steel Clan Robots resemble the heroic Goliath but with a deadlier edge.

These 8″ tall Robots come with three pairs of hands, effects parts, and detachable gauntlet blasters. Expect the robo-goyles to be in stores this May.

Ruthless businessman David Xanatos created the Steel Clan robots in the image of the Gargoyles to be his personal army.

Discotek Is Bringing ‘Symphogear XV’ To DVD

0

The fifth and final season of the sci-fi anime ‘Symphogear,’ subtitled ‘XV’ is getting a Blu-ray release from Discotek Media. It will feature all thirteen episodes of the epic conclusion. As part of its special features, it will include Commercials, Promos, Clean opening theme, and Clean ending theme.

It will be released on February 28th, 2023, but it is currently available on the Right Stuf Anime website for pre-order. The season ran from July 6, 2019, to September 28, 2019.

You can watch the opening theme below:

The show was developed by the Japanese animation studio Satelight. It was directed by Katsumi Ono, written by Akifumi Kaneko, and featured music from the composer group Elements Garden.

The Symphogear wiki describes the synopsis as follows,

Intending to turn the Divine Power against the Gods themselves, the progenitor of humanity Adam Weishaupt was struck down by the Symphogear, transmuted by the Lapis Philosophorum powered by Saint-Germain’s ideals. The secretive Bavarian Illuminati met its end, and the remnants forced into a corner by the actions of various governments. And— The Illuminati weren’t the only ones driven into a corner.

Although they wish for a political solution in order to prevent the embargo from becoming the spark of a new global conflict, conflicting expectations of national parties led only to discord, and progress is nearly non-existent. Even Japan, one of the countries involved, had sent an appeal to America for a cooperative partnership to mend the broken relationship between the two countries. Despite this, the act began and ended in superficiality and no agreement was ever reached.

The fate of the world is one that no-one can yet see. Furthermore, the tensions run high at home as well.”

A manga version of the franchise was released by ‘Newtype Ace’ magazine, illustrated by Dan Yoshii, and was written by Akifumi Kaneko and Noriyasu Agematsu.

TV Tropes describes the synopsis as follows,

“Akira Tendo’s life is a living hell. He was once a young office worker brimming with dreams, ambition, and a passion for his work. But now he’s a 24-year-old trapped in employment at a black company. His life is an endless cycle of miserable labor for awful pay and little fulfillment. These days he’d rather be the protagonist of a zombie film than go back to work. As if something like that would happen… Yeah… About that…

Akira wakes up one morning to find his landlord eating one of his neighbors. Soon all of his zombified neighbors come crawling out of their apartments to sink their teeth into his flesh. He’s barely able to lock himself on the roof as he worries about being late for work. But then it hits him. He never has to go to work again.

Liberated from his perpetual torment, Akira uses his newfound freedom to do everything he’s ever wanted to do in life, writing it all down in his bucket list, ‘100 Things I Want to Do Before I Become a Zombie.’ To him, braving the Zombie Apocalypse is a vacation compared to a dead-end job!”

Netflix is planning on doing a live-action adaptation.

Animated Horror Comedy ‘Unicorn Wars’ Gets A Release Date

0

GKids announced that they are bringing the Alberto Vázquez-directed animated horror comedy ‘Unicorn Wars’ to the United States. With a planned release for both cinemas and digital platforms, it will be made available on March 10, 2023.

“The technicolor horror-comedy featured in competition at the 2022 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and was an official selection at BFI London, Animation is Film, and Fantastic Fest. UNICORN WARS marks the next collaboration between GKIDS and Alberto Vázquez, following GKIDS’ local distribution of the Goya Award-winning feature Birdboy: The Forgotten Children and short film Decorado,” GKids said on their website.

The film production companies Abano, Autour De Minuit; Schmuby, Unicorn Wars Aie, and Uniko were behind the animated feature. It also features music by Joseba Beristain. Vázquez also wrote the film.

You can watch the trailer below:

The movie stars Jon Goiri, Jaione Insausti, Ramón Barea, Maribel Legarreta, Itxaso Quintana, Manu Heras, Gaizka Soria, and Kepa Cueto.

GKids described the synopsis as follows,

“It’s Bambi meets Apocalypse Now in this provocative and strangely beautiful horror comedy from acclaimed filmmaker and illustrator Alberto Vázquez (Birdboy: The Forgotten Children), who uses its outrageous candy-colored premise to explore religious zealotry, the tortured legacies of military fascism, and the depths of the soul.

For ages, teddy bears have been locked in an ancestral war against their sworn enemy, the unicorns, with the promise that victory will complete the prophecy and usher in a new era. Aggressive, confident teddy bear Bluet and his sensitive, withdrawn brother Tubby could not be more different. As the rigors and humiliation of teddy bear bootcamp turn to the psychedelic horrors of a combat tour in the Magic Forest, their complicated history and increasingly strained relationship will come to determine the fate of the entire war.”

Chelo Loureiro, Iván Miñambres, and Nicolas Schmerkin work on the project as executive producers.

Labyrinth’s Jareth, Sarah, and Hoggle Action Figures Are Here!

Plastic Meatball has officially launched Wave 1 of its retro-inspired 3.75″ tall Labyrinth action figures. This comes more than a year after the figures were announced alongside the since-released Time Bandits toys. The first wave of figures includes Sarah, Hoggle, and Jareth in his bulge revealing throne room outfit. Slap that baby. Make him free for $14.99 each!

Plastic Meatball has captured precisely what I expected 1980s-styled action figures from Labyrinth would look like. In fact, I was very disappointed as a kid that the movie didn’t have more merchandise. Not a single action figure was made when Jim Henson’s film first hit theatres in 1986. The only thing I can remember finding which was officially licensed was a small yellow packet of gum from Topps.

From experience, I can tell you that orders placed from Plastic Meatball usually take about two weeks to ship out.

Which characters should make it into Wave 2? A deluxe-size Ludo figure? Sir Didymus? I hope we get a five-pack with interchangeable parts of all five of the Fiery. Of course, we’ll need Jareth in all his various outfits, hopefully with his owl form. Each Jareth should include a different goblin. Dream Sarah should come with the knockers.

Who knows if and when we’ll get another wave. I’m still waiting on Time Bandits’ second wave to be announced. Given that Plastic Meatball isn’t a powerhouse like McFarlane Toys or Hasbro, we may be waiting a while until more toys are announced.
