Return What You Have Stolen! The ‘Time Bandits’ Toys Are Officially Here!

It’s about time that one of Terry Gilliam’s greatest fantasy movies got some official merchandise! Time Bandits, his pre-Brazil time-traveling epic, was released in 1981 and went on to be a cult classic. Yet very few pieces of merch have surfaced. Some artists make reproductions of the Map, but no toys … until now.
Plastic Meatball has officially released the first wave of action figures based on Time Bandits. This initial set of 3.75″ scale figures includes Evil (David Warner), Randall (David Rappaport), and Og (Mike Edmonds) after being turned into a pig. Articulation is limited to only five points, like many classic action figures. Each figure is $14.99, shipping not included.

The self-proclaimed leader of the Time Bandits, Randall uses the Supreme Being’s map of the universe to travel through time to get stinking rich by stealing from some of history’s most famous personalities.

Before Og was turned into a very well dressed pig by Evil, he was famously known as the Time Bandit who designed the “Pink Bunkadoo” – a tree that smelled so bad it caused the Bandits to be fired by the Supreme Being.

From his Fortress of Ultimate Darkness, Evil keeps a close eye on the Time Bandits, drawing them ever closer to his grasp so he can steal the Supreme Being’s map and use it for his own nefarious purposes!

Time Bandits was my first experience with a Terry Gilliam film, followed closely after by Brazil. It was one of those rare movies where a majority of the main actors were little people. David Rappaport stole most scenes, and I wish his character had a follow-up film. Sadly, Rappaport died in 1990.
I’m hoping that his chaotic masterpiece, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, also gets this sort of love from either Plastic Meatball or Super7. The cast of characters from that film is perfect for the retro-style action figure model. King of the Moon with a launching head. Bertold with windup running legs. The Baron with interchangeable aging heads. Come on! Someone get this started!
