Sounds like Disney doesn’t want to keep paying TV show creators royalties for years and years and years. According to the LA Times, Disney is pushing to adopt a similar payment structure as Netflix and Amazon… one that sees creators get paid more upfront while the studio keeps residuals and merchandising rights. Could this explain why all they’re signing all of these young creators to be showrunners on streaming services?
