Discotek Media To Release ‘Kodocha’ Season 2 On Blu-Ray

Discotek Media announced that they are releasing the second season of the anime romantic comedy ‘Kodocha’ on Blu-Ray. The home video release brings all fifty-one episodes for fans in a box set.

Released by the Japanese animation company Studio Gallop (Transformers: Car Robots), the series ran from 1996 to 1998. It first aired on TV Tokyo in Japan and the Funimation Channel in the United States.

The show was directed by Akitaro Daichi, Hiroaki Sakurai, and Akira Suzuki. It was produced by Miho Maruo, Ryusuke Takahash, and Tomoko Konparu with Noriko Kobayashi and Yoko Matsushita producing.

Discotek plans to release the DVD on May 30th, 2023, but it is available for pre-order on the Right Stuf Anime website.

You can watch the trailer below:

The anime is based on the rom-com manga ‘Kodomo no Omocha’ created by Miho Obana and serialized in ‘Ribon’ magazine. The print version ran from August 1994 to November 1998 and was released in the United States by Tokyopop.

Discotek describes the synopsis as follows,

“It all starts with a surprise encounter with Sana’s new best friend, Fuka, who… she meets in the bathroom? Why does she hate Akito so much if they’ve only just met!? They say surprise awaits around every corner in middle school, but nobody could have seen that coming. Juggling showbiz with school life isn’t easy, and whether it’s relationship drama, tabloid troubles or drama on set, there’s never a dull moment at Jinbo Middle School. Join Sana, Akito, Babbit and a hilarious cast of characters new and old through stories of love, family and even a show on Broadway!

How will Sana continue to juggle being a child actress with her new life in middle school? As if there wasn’t enough drama in showbiz, join Sana as she tries to juggle her stardom with the trials and tribulations of growing up.”

Discotek released the first season on DVD in November 2021.

J.C. Staff released an OVA based on the manga on December 16, 1995.
