Disney Adds Star Wars The Old Republic Synopsis to Timeline

The Star Wars timeline has been mapped out on a timeline by Disney and Lucasfilm, marking off key points in a galaxy far, far away. While most of the movies and Disney Plus shows take place in eras that everyone is familiar with, other eras in Star Wars have yet to be fully explored. During Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm went as far as to show a graphic that pointed out key points in time that fans of Star Wars will recognize, especially if you’ve been following the franchise for a long time. One part of the Star Wars timeline included The Old Republic, a time when popular Star Wars stories like Knights of the Old Republic took place. But it’s only now that this era of Star Wars is finally getting some attention from Disney and Lucasfilm.

A recent update on the Star Wars website from Disney now has a brief synopsis of The Old Republic. Originally reported by StarWarsNewsNet, the update on the website has a complete breakdown of the Star Wars timeline. The section for The old Republic now has a small description that is made to be a good summary of the era. It can be accessed in the section titled “Eras” under the “Databank” section, where other eras on the timeline can also be viewed.

“The Republic is founded among the worlds of the Galactic Core… and the Jedi Order emerges to protect it. A schism within the Jedi leads to the creation of the Sith in this epic era.”

As of now, there are no official projects for either Disney Plus or films that are set within the Old Republic era. For many Star Wars fans, the Knights of the Old Republic games included many popular characters and stories that were viewed as some of the best Star Wars Legends content. Although there is a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic planned for release on consoles, it has been heavily delayed and shelved by Embracer Group. Originally, the KOTOR remake was going to be developed by Aspyr Media until they were removed from the project in 2022.

Rumors of a Star Wars movie set in The Old Republic have floated around online for a long time, but have yet to come to fruition. While it’s great to see Disney and Lucasfilm acknowledging this era of Star Wars for fans, it’s disappointing how nothing concrete has been made. Hopefully, in the coming months or years, The Old Republic can be featured in a major Star Wars project outside of any comics or video games.

What do you think about the news of Lucasfilm detailing The Old Republic on the Star Wars website? Do you want to see a movie or Disney Plus show set during the time of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic? Tell us your thoughts about everything down below in the comments!

Warner Bros. Discovery Drops Release Date For ‘Rick And Morty’ Season 7

0

Fans of ‘Rick And Morty’ got some good news when Warner Bros. Discovery announced that they were announcing the release date for the upcoming seventh season of the award-winning adult animated series.

“Adult Swim announced today that new episodes of “Rick and Morty,” the hit adult animated series that follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe, will premiere around the world and across the multiverse starting on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 11:00 p.m. ET,” WBD said in a press release.

They continued, “‘Rick and Morty’ was the #1 comedy across all of cable during seasons three, four, five and six, and has become a multi-platform sensation not just on television, but across digital, gaming, livestreaming, retail, and fan experiences. The series reached over 19M viewers on linear broadcast in 2022 and remains a top series on Max. ‘Rick and Morty’ has garnered two Emmys for ‘Outstanding Animated Program’ and is currently nominated for a third.”

The show has been renewed through season ten and will also stream to MAX.

“Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever! It’s season seven, and the possibilities are endless: what’s up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let’s find out! There’s probably less piss than last season. “Rick and Morty,” 100 years! Or at least until season 10,” Adult Swimm added.

Series co-creator Justin Roiland, who voiced the title characters, has had his “ties cut” by Adult Swim following a felony domestic battery and false imprisonment allegation in January 2023. This was followed by a flurry of social media accusations, prompting the decision for Warner Bros. Discovery to end their relationship with him.

In March 2023, the charges against Roiland were dropped due to insufficient evidence. Despite this, Adult Swim executives will replace him with “soundalike” voice actors.

Amazon’s In-House Clinic May Prioritize Productivity Over Safety

0

Stories about Amazon’s warehouses having less than stellar working conditions are not rare. Between the heavy surveillance, breaks being barely long enough to walk to the restroom, and OSHA investigating several injuries, it’s unsurprising that the company would put worker welfare at the bottom of its priorities.

An investigation from Wired further cemented the opinion that Amazon would rather see an employee suffer a debilitating injury than a productivity dip. If a package handler experiences pain that could impact how many items they can get out the door in one day, the in-house clinic (AmCare) will move the injured worker to another position. This keeps workers’ compensation expenses low, and the workforce is minimally impacted.

However, depending on the type of sprain, fracture, or pulled muscle, the position these employees are moved to could worsen the injuries. If you’ve pulled your back, standing around all day instead of being allowed to rest and recover is almost like a prison sentence. In one account, an employee with a fractured skull was told to keep working after the accident. The accounts of productivity over safety are not uncommon.

A former OSHA deputy assistant secretary believes that Amazon’s method allows it to keep specific incidents from being documented, “What some companies are doing, and I think Amazon is one of them, is using their own clinics to ‘treat people’ and send them right back to the job, so that their injury doesn’t have to be recordable.” Of course, a spokeswoman for Amazon denies this, “Any suggestion that we intentionally or systematically delay or discourage employees from seeking needed medical care is false.

Wired spoke with people who had worked with Nevada’s AmCare clinic, and it was alleged that the EMTs would provide “pseudo-medical” treatments that would steer employees away from outside treatment. In a daming statement, the former AmCare worker said, “When we’re in ambulances as EMTs, the entire point is to get people to definitive care. Then I get to Amazon, and it’s like, ‘No, we’re not getting them to a doctor.’ So what did you need me for? I’m the person who gets people to doctors.” Those working in AmCare can only provide first aid. They’re not allowed to diagnose injuries.

Review: Strays – Funny Dogs

There’s just something funny about dogs. Almost any kind of situation can be made even funnier when it’s given from a dog’s perspective. Strays is a raunchy comedy that takes the very simple concepts of revenge and daily life and makes a funny story about coming to terms with reality and moving on. But mixed in with that is a cavalcade of goofy situations and over-exaggeration of nearly everything, as seen through the eyes of a dog recently turned stray. Although there are a few stumbles throughout the film, the majority of its plot will have you laughing throughout at some of the most ridiculous things that dogs go through.

Strays follows a dog named Reggie who is treated horribly by his owner Doug. After a series of unfortunate events that are inadvertently caused by him, Reggie is left out in the middle of a city by Doug alone. By chance, he meets another stray dog named Bug, along with his friends Maggie and Hunter. After spending a short time with them, Reggie comes to realize how horrible his former owner treated him and vows to take revenge on Doug by biting off the one thing his own value. What follows is a journey that drops the whole pack into crazy situations that test their friendship, as well as some ridiculous moments of clarity.

A lot of the humor in Strays will push things far, going from silly to raunchy very fast. One moment the movie will have an entire conversation about dogs rolling around and relationships with humans, only to switch up to a crazy bit about masturbation. But the jokes, setups, and punchlines are surprisingly very funny. Even if you’re not a big fan of crude humor that pushes boundaries you’ll find a few things that are hilarious. It’s the fact that many of the conversations are happening between dogs makes the ridiculousness of it all seem even more outlandish than it should be, but still funny enough to stay for more.

Will Ferrell is the voice of Reggie, a dog who remains naive for the majority of the film until he comes to a big realization. His funniest moments come from innocent reactions and moments where he can play off any of the other dogs. But as he gets wiser to what is happening, there’s a boost of confidence and boldness that compliments his good nature. The other dogs that Reggie meets on his journey are just as goofy and funny as he is.

Randall Park and Isla Fisher are the voices of Hunter and Maggie; two dogs with a ton of sexual tension between them. One is a failed police dog forced into wearing a cone, while the other is a reserved dog with an incredible sense of smell. Both of them are funny companions that have their own quirks that linger throughout the story, with a few key moments that let them shine in a goofy, yet heartwarming fashion.

By far the best voice in the whole movie belongs to Jamie Foxx as Bug. Every line from him is delivered with a level of commitment that feels real, but incredibly funny in the best way possible. Between the snide remarks and reactions from him to other dogs, Bug is hilarious in almost every situation he finds himself in.

The times when the movie takes time to show some of the more mundane, Bug manages to make them funnier with his unexpected statements. Seeing a dog freak out over seeing its reflection is so much funnier when you’re hearing Jamie Foxx’s voice cuss out the reflection. While there are a few scenes where things get much more serious and emotional, they aren’t as strong as the scenes where comedy is the focus.

This is because the dramatic scenes in the movie are not as strong as everything else. Going from moments that are ridiculous and funny straight into drama can be jarring, but passable if the drama works out well. In Strays, however, some of the drama between the dogs comes off a bit forced and out of place. Some of the things that are brought up midway were addressed towards the beginning, so it’s weird to see them brought up again later. Had these scenes been given a better reason or set up for when they occur, it wouldn’t be that bad to include them as a break from the comedy. But as is they feel more like gaps in the comedy that mess with the momentum of the whole story.

But when the bigger things in Strays pay off, they really pay off. One thing Strays does well is wrapping up all of the details it brings up by the end. Jokes that are set up early on have a satisfying conclusion when the story comes to an end, with a few twists and turns along the way. At the same time, the movie also isn’t afraid to get graphic when it needs to be, not aimlessly. Certain jokes just wouldn’t work as well the movie wasn’t allowed to fully commit to how ridiculous the bits could be. And luckily, they’re great jokes that end up being hilarious.

Strays is a movie that is a lot better than you realize. Despite the few parts that don’t come together as well, the comedy is what makes this film work. The writing for the jokes is solid and will make just about anyone laugh, especially if you have even the slightest knowledge about dogs. Those who are not big fans of raunchy humor may not enjoy the movie as much as other people, but there is still plenty of great jokes that will click with anyone. It’s a tough world out there with many harsh reality checks, but as this movie shows, it’s so much funnier with dogs.

What do you think about Strays? Will you be checking it out anytime soon? What is your favorite kind of dog? Tell us your thoughts about everything down below in the comment section!

Discotek Media To Release First Half Of 70s Mech Anime ‘Mazinger Z’ On Blu-Ray

0

Discotek Media has announced that they would release the first forty-six episodes of the 1970s sci-fi mecha anime ‘Mazinger Z.’ Produced by Toei Animation, the series was based on the manga Go Nagai and ran for a total of ninety-two episodes directed by Tomoharu Katsumata.

This box set is being released as “Collection 1” and will feature the uncut version of the show in its original Japanese audio with English subtitles. The DVD box set is planned to be released on October 31, 2023, though it is available for pre-order on the Right Stuf Anime website.

They also released the box art:

Discotek describes the synopsis as follows,

“Koji Kabuto’s grandfather has discovered two resources which can save humanity: Photon Light Energy and the ultra-impregnable alloy Chogokin Z. However, Dr. Kabuto’s research is abruptly cut off when the evil Dr. Hell sends his trusted lieutenant, the bisected Baron Ashura, to assassinate him! Koji, now orphaned along with younger brother Shiro, swear revenge using Dr. Kabuto’s last and greatest invention: the super robot Mazinger Z!

Joined by Dr. Kabuto’s successor, Dr. Yumi, his daughter Sayaka, and her research robot Aphrodite A, Koji sets out to protect Japan from Dr. Hell’s menacing mecha monsters and ensure the peaceful work of the Photon Light Institute. Can Koji and Sayaka, along with local bully boy Boss, prevent this most dangerous of villains from running amok and conquering the world?”

The manga would run from October 1972 to September 1973 in the pages of the Shueisha magazine ‘Weekly Shōnen Jump’ though it would get released by Kodansha for their ‘TV Magazine’ in 1974.

In 1976, Consolidated Amusement Co. dubbed the first fifty-two episodes and would release them in Hawaiian theaters for children. A 1985 English dub from Three B. Productions Ltd. retitled the series ‘Tranzor Z’ and dubbed the first sixty-five episodes for TV syndication.

Ultra Magnus Joins Hasbro’s ‘Transformers: The Movie’ Toyline

It looks like the Transformers: The Movie line of action figures may be winding down. Several big-name characters have been released in the ’86 packaging or the Legacy line. However, one major Autobot has been noticeably missing. Finally, Ultra Magnus rolls into battle … only to fly to pieces.

Seriously. One of the selling features of Ultra Magnus is that you can break him apart just like when Galvatron messed him up on Junkion.

The $89.99 Autobot can be pre-ordered right now at Hasbro Pulse and is expected to arrive on November 1st. Thankfully, Hasbro didn’t recycle the War for Cybertron Ultra Magnus.

This one may be a totally new build. We’ll definitely review this one when it comes out.

However, the soldier-turned-leader isn’t the only Transformers ’86 figure coming out this Fall.

  • TRANSFORMERS STUDIO SERIES COMMANDER CLASS: This 9.5-inch collectible action figure is inspired by iconic movie scenes and designed with specs and details to reflect the Transformers movie universe
  • 2 ICONIC MODES: This Studio Series Transformers toy for 8 year old boys and girls features classic conversion between robot and semi trailer modes in 43 steps. Trailer can hold Deluxe Class figures (each sold separately, subject to availability)
  • AWESOME ACCESSORIES: Transformers figure comes with 4 blasters, 7 blast effects and a Matrix of Leadership accessory that can fit inside the figure’s chest. Accessories attach in both modes

Joining Ultra Magnus is the tiny Decepticon Frenzy. He’s just a recolor of the Rumble. The 3.5″ tall Transformer is $11.99. So … where’s Soundwave already?!

Another Autobot included in this wave is Ratchet. Yup, he’s a recolor of Ironhide, but with a different head. The pricing is getting a bit out of hand regarding these smaller figures. Ratchet is priced at $34.99 and is due out this November.

Lastly, Prowl and Ironhide were packaged together but not under the TF: TM line. Instead, the ill-fated Autobots came out in a two-pack with the Buzzworthy Bumblebee packaging. Weird.

Both Transformers feature battle damage, but Hasbro failed to include a smoldering head for Prowl. However, you get blaster effects parts to recreate Ironhide’s death at the hands of Starscream and Megatron.

The set is $54.99 and is available now via Hasbro and Target.

I highly doubt Hasbro will make a G1 Megatron figure or Astro Train. We will probably see Soundwave and Devastator in the future, but I can’t see several more waves focusing on the only good Transformers film.

BioWare Sheds 50 Employees, Claims “Quality” Is It’s “North Star”

0

Those hoping that BioWare could recuperate after the company’s last couple of games landed with a thud may not want to hear today’s news. On BioWare’s Blog, General Manager Gary McKay announced that the company is undergoing a change that will see around 50 roles being canned.

McKay stated that BioWare could only succeed if “we must shift towards a more agile and more focused studio. It will allow our developers to iterate quickly, unlock more creativity, and form a clear vision of what we’re building before development ramps up.

Apparently, the changes required mean several roles are being made obsolete. Which roles? That’s unknown.

The GM implies that this move is preemptive, possibly alluding to BioWare’s future projects or the company as a whole may be in trouble:

“We’ve chosen to act now in part to provide our impacted colleagues with as many internal opportunities as possible. These changes coincide with a significant number of roles that are currently open across EA’s other studios. Impacted employees will be provided with professional resources and assistance as they apply for these positions.”

Those finding themselves being handed pink slips may still find employment elsewhere in EA, but it’s not a guarantee. Considering the quality of BioWare’s past few games has been a major issue, this isn’t filling me with hope that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf won’t be negatively affected.

“Our commitment to quality continues to be our North Star,” says McKay. Those are hard words to live by when one of BioWare’s games launched so many unintentional memes. The last time I covered a post from the General Manager, he failed to bring up the issues that were bringing the company down.

The past decade has not been kind to BioWare. We all started worrying in ’07 when EA bought out the studio behind Knights of the Old Republic and the mostly great Mass Effect Trilogy. Quality issues began appearing in the third ME title, and then there was the Andromeda fiasco and the colossal bait-n-switch known as Anthem.

EA’s habit of infecting studios under its umbrella with a terminal disease may be slow working, but BioWare has been showing symptoms for some time. What was the last great BioWare title you remember? Was it made before 2012? Were sequels to the studio’s best games infested with terrible DLC and multiplayer? The hallmarks of EA’s sickness were there for a long time.

During Season Two, Bosch and Chandler work together to seek out a killer who just might find them first. As a result of being kidnapped by a masked assailant, Maddie Bosch’s law enforcement career hangs in the balance. The FBI scrutinizes Carl Rogers’ murder and places Bosch and Chandler under suspicion.”

Season two is based on the novel ‘The Crossing.’

However, when Himari is inexplicably revived by a penguin hat from the aquarium’s souvenir shop, the hand of fate continues to tick faithfully forward.

With her miraculous recovery, though, comes a cost: there is a new entity within her body, whose condition for keeping her fate at bay sends the boys on a wild goose chase for the mysterious “Penguin Drum.” In their search, the boys will have to follow the threads of fate leading from their own shocking past and into the lives of other wishmakers vying for the Penguin Drum, all hoping to land upon their chosen destiny.”
