Power Rangers Crossed with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

Power Rangers X Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gives us Leonardo and Donatello as the Blue and Black Rangers. The helmets certainly look like the ’90s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ones, but the Turtle heads are from a more modern era.
Donnie is sporting goggles like the 2012 Nickelodeon show. Leo looks stoic, similar to how he appeared in the 2007 animated film. The two-pack of figures is due out in November 2021 and will cost $54.99 via the Big Bad Toy Store.
Could this be the start of a whole new line of TMNT/Power Rangers toys? Imagine the possibilities! Shredder crossed with Lord Zedd. Kraang morphed into Rita Repulsa! I feel a little sick now.

IT’S MORPHIN TIME! From Dino Fury back to the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Power Rangers have brought teamwork, action, and adventure to generations of fans. The legacy continues with figures, vehicles, collectibles, and roleplay toys from Hasbro, celebrating ranger teams from Mighty Morphin to Dino Fury. Imagine all the action of Power Rangers with toys from Hasbro!

The brothers come with the following:

  • Morphed Leonardo figure
    • Alternate head without helmet
    • Alternate hands
    • Katana merged with Power Lance
    • Blast effect pieces
  • Morphed Donatello figure
    • Alternate head without helmet
    • Alternate hands
    • Staff merged with Power Axe
    • Blast effect pieces

So, I’m going to guess that the next set will have Raph as the Red Ranger and Mikey as either the Green Ranger or White Ranger. Maybe Hasbro will be bold and put Raph in the Pink Ranger’s garb. Oh, I can already picture the angry YouTube videos. Do it, Hasbro!
These guys look thicc, and I love it!
What are your thoughts on this mashup? Should Hasbro try the same thing with G.I. Joe and other IPs like Marvel or Star Wars? Let us know in the comments.

She-Ra Is Coming To Mondo’s Masters of the Universe Collection

During SDCC “Comic-Con At Home” Mondo revealed five new 12″ Masters of the Universe figures. These include Snake Man-At-Arms, Netflix Skeletor, Filmation Hordak, Classic Scareglow, and She-Ra!
She-Ra, the Princess of Power, marks Mondo’s first time bringing a female character of the MotU franchise into this 1/6th line of premium action figures. We spotted these images over at Super Hero Hype.
In the past, Mondo’s team put their own spin on the characters, usually straying far from the comic and TV versions of the heroes and villains. She-Ra (as seen above) looks very much like both her classic Mattel toy and Filmation counterpart. She will come with multiple tiaras and even the comb disguised as an ax. Adora’s alter ego also features the Filmation sword and a more Mondo-inspired one.

Mondo
Classic Scareglow looks great. Mondo’s previous entry of this character was cool-looking but didn’t feel like he belonged in Masters of the Universe. The upcoming one looks more the part. Sometimes you just have to keep it simple.
Mondo
Hordak returns. We covered his first appearance a couple of months ago. The Filmation variant keeps most of the same body parts, but swaps out heads with a more TV-accurate one. The colors have also been more updated to match the basic black, red, and blue or the ’80s Hordak.
Mondo
The Snake Man version of Man-at-Arms finally brings us closer to something from the 200X series. If you’ve read the stories from Mattel’s Classics toys, the infection eventually led to Duncan’s death. Teela honors her father by taking his up his mantle.
The figure looks mostly the same as the previous release, but the armor has a metallic foil shine. He also comes with Orko disguised as a pot.
Mondo
The Netflix series MotU: Revelation is also being introduced to this line. The first character up is Skeletor as he appears in the new animated show. This Skeletor looks to be a whole new sculpt. The master of Snake Mountain comes with his Havoc Staff and three different faces. Not a lot of thrills with this one.
Mondo
The release window for these isn’t clear. They’re not currently on Mondo’s website.
What are your thoughts on these new additions to Mondo’s MotU 12″ figures? Which characters would you like to see Mondo do next? Triclops? Trapjaw? Bow? Let us know in the comments.

‘Snowpiercer’ Renewed For A Fourth Season At TNT

0

TNT has announced that their hit thriller television series ‘Snowpiercer’ has been renewed for a fourth season. The announcement came along with the news that the production company Tomorrow Studios has wrapped filming for season three.
Here is the fourth season renewal announcement video:

According to a press release, “TNT’s just celebrated the wrap of season three production on its hit drama series “Snowpiercer” with the announcement of a season four pickup. Produced by Tomorrow Studios, “Snowpiercer” seasons one and two are currently available to binge on the TNT app, with season three set to premiere on TNT early next year.”
TNT execs Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain expressed their enthusiasm for the new season.
“‘Snowpiercer’ has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings,” they said. “All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences. We’re excited to keep the train running into season four.”
They also give a summation of the previous season and a preview of the upcoming third season.
“At the end of “Snowpiercer” season two, Layton (Daveed Diggs) and Ruth (Alison Wright), who were banished to Big Alice’s compost car, plotted to take back Snowpiercer. With the help of Javier (Roberto Urbina) and Alexandra (Rowan Blanchard), Layton and Ruth made it back to Snowpiercer and rallied with their supporters. Josie (Katie McGuiness) destroyed the Aquarium car separating Snowpiercer’s head from the remaining 1,023 cars. With Layton in command of a 10-car “pirate train,” he and his team rushed to Breslauer Research Station to find Melanie (Jennifer Connelly).
Season three picks up with Layton (Diggs) and his inner circle commanding a small pirate train in search of Melanie (Connelly) and a possible warm location to restart civilization, aided by a newfound survivor. Back on Snowpiercer, Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) is consolidating power, foiled only by secret allies of Layton’s hidden on the train, committed to the cause.”
‘Snowpiercer’ is a television reboot of director Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film of the same name staring Chris Evans.

Has 5Pro Studio Engineered The Most Anime-Accurate Voltron Ever?

There’s always a trade-off when it comes to making a toy functional but also accurate. For years when it came to Voltron, you could either get five lions that combine into the Defender, or you get Voltron as one solid robot. Unfortunately, when it comes to the combining version, engineering always left something to be desired. Either the joints would look wonky, or the proportions would be off. Either way, Voltron would never truly look like his animation counterpart.
5Pro Studio is looking to fix that with a premium version of the classic titan by re-engineering the entire toy to capture all the details of the lions and Voltron without compromise.

Introducing the Voltron, a new CARBOTIX series that Blitzway has ambitiously prepared. In order to perfectly reproduce the Voltron that appears in the anime, Blitzway carefully analyzed the five lions. Free-moving joints that could reproduce their dynamic poses in the animation, while maintaining perfect proportions while in their lion states. It has been made possible to maintain perfect proportions without losing shape even when the five lions are combined to form Voltron.
Various materials were considered to provide a little fun during the assembly process. To ensure that you don’t experience any stress when combining the figures, unnecessary structures have been boldly removed. Like other transforming robot series, alloy parts have been used in the right places to give the satisfying feeling of holding a heavy robot.
Each lion’s eyes have an LED light to create an animated robot appearance, and the cover that hides unnecessary parts when the robots are combined achieves the appearance of Voltron with a higher degree of perfection.
The included action base enables you to display each lion as if they are floating in the air using a support shaped as a trajectory of light representing each lion. This support can also be used to mount weapons when combined into the form of Voltron. Made of Die-cast, PVC, ABS, and POM. The Voltron Voltron 5Pro Studio CARBOTIX Series Action Figure stands about 15-inches tall.

Compared to other Voltron figures available in toy stores, this one is certainly better. There are versions out there of the galactic defender that looks spot-on to the cartoon, but those can’t be broken down into the five individual lions. Working in larger levels of articulation while also retaining details is an impressive feat, certainly. That will, of course, come at a price—$ 699.99 to be exact.
5Pro Studio’s Voltron is available for pre-order now and will be out in February 2022.

Xena the Warrior Princess Leaps Back Into Battle With New ReAction Figures

If you paid attention to the current chatter about the entertainment industry, you’d be led to believe that no strong female characters were ever on TV or the silver screen. But, for those of us older than 20, we know better.
One of the icons of superheroines in the ’90s was Xena the Warrior Princess. Played to perfection by Lucy Lawless, Xena ran for six years on television side-by-side with Kevin Sorbo’s Hercules. Xena was a pop culture phenomenon during that time. Who needs Barista Teela and the Ma’amsters of the Universe when you could have Xena and Gabrielle battling mythic creatures and gods?
Since the Toy Biz days, Xena hasn’t had a major toy line, and Super7 has picked up the torch to fill in that gap with new ReAction figures.

Once a powerful despotic warlord, Xena has committed herself to fighting for the greater good to atone for her past misdeeds. Whether facing her arch-enemy Callisto or even Ares, the Greek God of War himself, Xena will not be thwarted in her fight for what is right. This 3.75” articulated Xena: Warrior Princess ReAction figure features premium detail and comes with Chakram and sword accessories. No mortal, beast, or God can stand against her so it would be a fool’s errand to resist adding this Xena ReAction figure to your collection.

Super7

She may have grown from farm girl, to bard, to formidable warrior, but Gabrielle’s most important role is that of friend and moral touchstone for Xena, helping keep her on the path of the good and the just. This 3.75” articulated Xena: Warrior Princess ReAction figure of Gabrielle looks equally ready to offer prudent counsel or take a more forceful approach to any would-be ne’er do wells, and comes with fighting staff accessory. The Gabrielle ReAction figure is a must-have for any Xena: Warrior Princess fan!

Both warriors are currently available to purchase directly through Super7. However, since Super7’s ReAction figures are made-to-order, they are priced at $18 apiece.

Iron Studios Captures The Magic of Steven Spielberg’s ‘E.T.’

0

Who knew the story of a boy and his weird long-necked alien buddy would become an endearing classic by one of the world’s most prolific filmmakers? So it’s strange that not more E.T. merchandise is in circulation. Well, the film’s 40th anniversary is just around the corner. Maybe things will kick into gear closer to 2022.
If you cannot wait to buy some E.T. merch, Iron Studios has just what you need in stock right now. The statue artisans have reproduced possibly the most famous scene from the 1982 sci-fi classic. Elliot flying on his bike with E.T. in the basket is now yours for the taking in both a standard and deluxe edition.
The deluxe edition shown below comes with a light-up moon. A scene is so iconic that it is easily recognizable anywhere.

A boy carries in his bicycle basket, wrapped in a white sheet, an unusual friend, a small alien lost on Earth that is being pursued by government forces. In their flight to find their fellow men and return to his world, the two friends run towards a California forest, where the spacecraft that will rescue him must land. To escape a police blockade, the little alien uses its telekinetic abilities to levitate the bike, lifting them into the air and flying over the trees towards their destination. This memorable scene, also used in the film\’s promotion, has become one of the most recognizable and striking images in cinema, even becoming the logo of Amblin Entertainment, Steven Spielberg\’s film producer, and now also proudly replicated in the \”ET & Elliot\” statue – Art Scale 1/10 – ET – Iron Studios\”.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Roleplay Merchandise Has a … Ghost Whistle?

0

I’ll preface this by saying that often in the industry, toys come out as part of a license that has nothing to do with the property they’re connected to. Sometimes companies have stuff in the pipeline that gets redirected or reused to help pad out the store shelves or product line. So, when I saw a stink happening about a product associated with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I knew what to expect.
With the third Ghostbusters film hitting this Thanksgiving, the official merchandise push has started. Over the past week, we’ve seen new Plasma series figures announce several toys for kids who want to roleplay, busting some heads in a spiritual sense.
One of the oddities is this thing—the Ghost Whistle.

Hasbro
Hasbro

Who you gonna scare off? All the ghosts around, with the new Ghostbusters Ghost Whistle roleplay item, inspired by the Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie! Featuring over 20 spooky and hilarious sounds, kids will have ghosts flying for the hills. By using the dial to select the classification of ghost to scare off, kids can blow into the accessory to activate the ghost-repelling call!

At first, I thought it was a Fisher-Price toy. Seriously. That’s not a dunk on the toy, but having a kid myself, it has a lot of hallmarks of a toddler toy. I really doubt this will be a thing in Afterlife. If it does, however, that will be kind of silly.

Moving on to the other stuff that’s a bit more in line with the film.
During the Real Ghostbusters era of the ’80s, Kenner delivered a bunch of roleplaying toys. Hasbro has taken up the same line but at a decidedly more price conscience angle. This time around, the idea is that kids are building their own Ghostbusting gear. There’s no all-in-one set now. Instead, the proton pack, proton blaster, and PKE meter are all sold separately.

Hasbro

Now you can be the one they’re gonna call! The Ghostbusters Afterlife Proton Pack takes the famous anti-ghost technology from the movies and brings it home in a wearable package for fans ages 5 and up.

Hasbro

With the Ghostbusters Proton Blaster from Hasbro, kids can now imagine joining the team with the one piece of gear any would-be Ghostbuster cannot be without! The Ghostbusters Proton Blaster features a mechanism that lets kids imagine the ever-changing wavelengths of a proton stream, allowing them to play out the fantasy of catching ghosts in the proton blast!

Hasbro

Inspired by the Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie, this Ghostbusters PKE roleplay item from Hasbro is an essential part of the Ghostbuster arsenal! Featuring movie-inspired deco, light, and electronic sound effects, kids can press a button to activate features to find ghosts.

The oddity here is that the PKE Meter is now referred to as the PKE Taser. This must be for the Ghostbuster, who is afraid of walking down a dark alleyway.
There are two versions of the proton blaster. The one shown above is pretty bare-bones but similar to Hasbro’s Saber Forge line of lightsabers; this one has different attachments.

Hasbro
Hasbro

Kids can imagine busting ghosts all kinds of ways with this modular and customizable Ghostbusters Proton Blaster M.O.D. (“Made on demand”) role-play toy from Hasbro. The primary blaster, complete with sound and light effects, comes with two attachments – the Blast ‘n Trap and the Plasma Stream. When kids attach either accessory, unique lights and sounds are activated. Attachments can be placed in three locations: on the front, side, or back of the main blaster so kids can customize their blaster to fit their Ghostbustin’ adventure.

The last of the kids’ RPG toys is a new take on the classic Kenner Ghost Popper.

Hasbro

Mini-Puft popping action is back with the Ghostbusters Mini-Puft Popper from Hasbro and NERF! Inspired by the Ghostbusters: Afterlife film, kids can imagine themselves as part of the Ghostbusters team undergoing eerie encounters with this must-have roleplay gear. The GhostbustersMini-Puft Popper comes with three soft foam Puft Popper projectiles inspired by the mischievous Mini-Puft characters from the 2021 film for ghost-poppin’ action and adventure.

OK, if the Ghostbusters load up the Mini-Pufts into a gun and shoot them around, I’d quite enjoy watching that. However, the more we emphasize the Minis, the more convinced I was wrong that the Walmart scene is a dream sequence. Hopefully, these little guys won’t be a marketing distraction in the movie.
For older kids and people on a budget for cosplaying at conventions, three new replicas are all under $20 apiece. These include the ecto goggles, PKE meter, and ghost trap. None of these are functional but is a great lightweight alternative to the more screen-accurate replicas produced by Hasbro and Mattel over the years.

All the items are currently available on Entertainment Earth.

The Art of Shinrashinge: Creativity In Motion

0

One of the many things to love about reading manga is the ability to illustrate the illusion of movement and action. Some artists go above and beyond the traditional panels of a graphic novel series.

An online user, who goes by the name of Shinrashinge, is a Japanese paper craft artist who specializes in combining video tricks, paper creativity and animation techniques to tell stories.

Shinrashinge’s work was recently showcased in Brother’s printer advertisement:

In 2018, Shinrashinge made a flipbook highlighting the effects of overworking it can have on the lives of people in Japan, which has become a very well known problem, often resulting in a high rate of suicides, or karaoshi (“death from overwork”). The video, titled “Corporate Slave” (Shachiku), uses mostly text-less story-telling, with sound effects and music, though there are some texts that does matter to the context of the story. As the young employee lives through the daily grind and sleepless nights of working for a shady Japanese company, a boardroom whiteboard displays slogans such as “work until you die“, which is promptly crossed out and replaced with “work even if you die“. There are even sarcastic motivational slogans of “be proud of your hard work, be proud to be a corporate slave” and “there are 24 hours in one day, so three days of work can be accomplished in one!” This is all piled on the whiteboard later, with a cruel “missing work, being late for work, and showing up or leaving exactly on the dot are grounds for immediate dismissal.

The last bit of text is the dialogue of a phone call. As the main character struggles with work everyday, he gains a new colleague who sits next to him. The colleague, leaving late at night after an exhausting shift, is struck by a car right outside the office. By the end of the video, the main character has become crushed by his life as a slave to company, and attempts suicide, imagining freedom on the other side of a noose. Thankfully, his noose snaps, and he is brought to realization of the importance of living, by a call from his colleague, who is recovering in the hospital. In the call, she says “I know it’s tough…but try your best, because I’m doing my best too.”

In a more light hearted video, the artist just released a heartwarming video of the relationship between father and son. The moving paper art piece is titled “Hengao”, which in Japanese translates to “strange face” or “funny face”, the kind a father would give to make his child smile or laugh.

In this action-packed video, we see a boy fighting a monster, in the what video is translated titled as May Disease. At the end, we see how the artist recorded the video, and it is quite impressive.

Here’s a stop-motion piece he did in 2015, to celebrate Halloween:

The artist has also used paper cups to tell a story. Here is one about Dragonball:

Here is an art piece he did of a pig…. Or is it a pig?

Shinrashinge created his own Zoetrope animation, while also showing how he made it:

You can see more of his work on Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, and Youtube.
