What’s the matter — cat got your irreplaceable jewels? The Catwoman Premium Format Figure measures 21″ tall and 10″ wide as Selina Kyle stands on the steps of Wayne Manor holding her latest heisted treasures: a priceless ruby necklace and a set of gold bangles from Bruce’s vault. A feline friend nuzzles at her ankle while her bullwhip drapes across her shoulders, curling like a tail as the cat burglar prepares to make off with her loot.
The Exclusive Edition of Catwoman includes a swap-out left arm holding Batman’s cowl in her clawed clutches. Begin a game of cat and bat with this additional display option that makes the stakes a little more personal for the Dark Knight.

Personally, this version of Selena Kyle isn’t my favorite. I’ve always been fond of her early ’90s purple costume, and the Batman Returns’ stitched look. Which Catwoman costume is your favorite? Let us know in the comments.

Godzilla, King of the Monsters, is here to rule over your collection!
Immense in detail and size, Ultimate Godzilla measures a gargantuan 3 feet from teeth to tail! He features 10 points of articulation including a hinged jaw, and a tail with an internal skeleton armature that is durable yet highly posable.
This colossal kaiju features lights and sound, activated via buttons discreetly hidden on his back. Depress these buttons to activate Godzilla’s light-up function and/or to hear his monstrous roar!
The Ultimate Godzilla figure comes packaged in a collector-friendly box, fit for a King and perfect for display.

The great thing about a new Godzilla movie is that no matter how bad the movie is, it means we get truckloads of new merchandise. Sure, it may mostly focus on the new film, but the lines are usually rounded out with classic Toho characters.
I’m surprised there has been a book created yet chronicling the history of Godzilla toys. So many companies have handled the property over the decades and produced so many cool and weird things. History Vortex has some of that history down but no photos.
Would an encyclopedia of Godzilla merchandise be something you’d be interested in owning? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Exclusive Interview: Uwe Boll Talks Filmmaking, Fighting, and Criticism

Dr. Uwe Boll is many things. A writer, producer, director, filmmaker, boxer, and Ph.D. He is also famous for his big-screen video game adaptations. From House of the Dead to Postal, Boll has turned many famous and infamous games into equally notorious movies.
The good doctor gave us a few minutes of his time to talk about his early days in filmmaking, his move to big-budget films, and the criticism he faced during his journey.

During the interview, I mentioned that his rise in fame/notoriety also came when overly-cynical internet reviews and videos were hatching. For example, many years ago, we riffed House of the Dead over at Dread Central. I’ll admit, it wasn’t funny. But, at that time, Boll’s movies were the butt of the joke. He was an easy target. Believe me, people took advantage of it.
The reasoning for the snarky attitude towards Boll’s movies may also be because they’re safe to tear apart. In my younger days, editors would tell me that certain films, directors, or studios were off-limits for scathing reviews. If a director was friendly with the publication I was working on, he or she would have to be handled with care. Or if we often got event invites from a studio, we’d have to treat its worst movie as though it were only mediocre.
When you hear complaints about “access media,” this is what we mean.
When you watch around ten direct-to-video indie films a month, you start to forgive the “sins” found in Uwe Boll’s movies. After rewatching a few of them, it is clear there are technical issues, plot issues, and, as Uwe admitted, casting issues. However, the vitriol critics and YouTubers had for the filmmaker feels exaggerated.
What are your thoughts on Dr. Uwe Boll’s films? Do you have any favorites? Let us know in the comments.

The Thing Better Not Mess With NECA’s Ultimate MacReady Version 2!

Those crazy Swedes. All they had to do was not dig up an ancient stranded alien, and the crew of Outpost 31 would have been fine. NECA is releasing an updated version of R.J. MacReady, the man who saved the world from the Thing from another world.
This version of Mac comes with a flame thrower, TNT charge, Thing blood sample, revolver, and alternate hand and head. Look at all that gorgeous Kurt Russell hair, too! Pair him up with the Blair-Thing from the old McFarlane Toys movie monsters line, and you’ve got a superb display piece.
MacReady will be out in stores this October.

From The Thing, John Carpenter’s acclaimed slow-build horror film classic! Macready is a member of a 12-man research team which finds something that’s been waiting for over 100,000 years in the Antarctic circle… something with the ability to become one of them. Featuring the official likeness of Kurt Russell, Ultimate Station Survival Macready stands approximately 7 inches tall and is fully articulated. Includes interchangeable heads and hands, flamethrower, fire effect, dynamite bundle, wire spool, petri dish, blood effect, revolver, and ice axe.

The Thing is one of the most excellent horror remakes ever made, in my opinion. It captures the paranoia and isolation so well. Plus, the practical effects are some of the best seen in the business. Sadly, the 2011 prequel botched things up (heh).
However, there was a kickin’ video game released on the PS2 and original XBOX. If you can find it, check it out. I’ve linked to a playthrough below. The game is a combination of survival horror, resource management, and paranoia management. Yup, you get to test yourself and your teammates like in the movie to either calm them down or to figure out if one of them is infected.

What are your thoughts on ‘The Thing’ or its prequel film? Let us know in the comments.

‘The Duke of Death and His Maid’ Renewed For A Second Season

0

‘The Duke of Death and His Maid’ has officially been renewed for a second season. Japanese production companies J.C. Staff and Shogakukan Music & Digital Entertainment will return to produce the show, according to reports.
Funimation announced on their website, “We won’t have to live with the curse of no more ducal romance, because The Duke of Death and His Maid is officially getting a Season 2! The announcement was made after the final episode of The Duke of Death and His Maid aired on Sunday.”
They continue, “Based on the manga by Koharu Inoue, The Duke of Death and His Maid is directed by Yoshiki Yamakawa (Hi Score Girl) at studio J.C.Staff, and stars Natsuki Hanae (The Case Study of Vanitas) and Ayumi Mano (Date A Live) as the titular Duke and his maid, Alice.”

This comes shortly after D-Rezzed reported that Funimation received the rights to produce an English dub.
“The English cast for the series includes Clifford Chapin (My Hero Academia) as The Duke, Kristen McGuire (Dr. STONE) as Alice, Kayli Mills (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) as Viola and Kent Williams (The Millionaire Detective – Balance: UNLIMITED) as Rob.” The cast also includes Sarah Wiedenheft (How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord) and Ricco Fajardo (Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!) with Natalie Rose serving as ADR Director.
My AnimeList describes the synopsis:
“As the elegant, frail flower petals wither away into lifeless ashes, the young duke is tragically reminded of the despicable power forced upon him—the ability to kill anything he touches. Scorned by his family, he is sent away to live in near isolation. Fortunately, he is not entirely alone, as the manor’s staff— his dutiful butler Rob and the flirtatious maid Alice—keep him company and make his life less miserable.
As the duke’s romantic feelings for Alice grow, so does his continued frustration for the limits set by his unfortunate ability. Therefore, he resolves to break the curse cast upon him all those years ago, not only for his sake, but Alice’s as well—for he is painfully aware of how difficult it is to avoid the touch of a loved one.”

Amazon Greenlights Film Based On B.E. Jones’ Thriller ‘Wilderness’

0

In conjunction with Firebird Pictures, Amazon Prime has announced that they have greenlit an adaption of ‘Wilderness,’ a psychological thriller from British author B.E. Jones.
“A new psychological thriller, Wilderness, will launch on Amazon Prime Video in 2023. The UK Original series, based on B.E. Jones’ novel of the same name, will be written, created, and executive produced by Marnie Dickens, executive produced by Elizabeth Kilgarriff, produced by Firebird Pictures for Amazon Studios, and will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in 2023 in over 240 countries and territories,” Amazon said in a press release. “‘Wilderness’ is a twisted love story, where a dream holiday and a supposedly “happily-ever-after” life quickly turn into a living nightmare.”
The story follows “British couple Liv and Will seem to have it all: A rock-solid marriage, a glamorous new life in New York thousands of miles from their provincial hometown, and still young enough to feel that their whole lives are ahead of them. Until Liv learns about Will’s affair. Heartbreak is swiftly followed by another emotion—fury. Revenge is her only option, and when Will proposes a trip around America’s epic National Parks to give their relationship a fresh start, she knows just the place…”
Dickens explained, “Wilderness is pure, unadulterated fun, where our heroine Liv says the things you wish you had the guts to, does the things you can only (fantasize) about, and lives by her own increasingly outrageous set of rules. I’m thrilled to bring the Prime Video audience along for her ride.”
Kilgarriff added, “We’re so excited to be bringing Marnie’s gripping and provocative scripts to life with the fantastic team at Amazon. Taking B.E. Jones’ brilliant story and super-charging it for the screen, Wilderness asks just how far you would go to get revenge on the person who ripped out your heart.”
‘Wilderness’ joins the ever-growing Amazon Prime catalogue of originals.

‘The World Ends with You’ is an action RPG created by Square Enix and Jupiter, a Japanese video game developer released in July 2007. The premise follows Neku Sakuraba and his friends “who are forced to participate in an event called the Reapers’ Game, a week-long competition that will determine their fate.”
A twelve-episode anime adaption “The World Ends with You: The Animation” arrived in April 2021 produced by studio DOMERICA and Shin-Ei Animation. Its popularity has led to Funimation announcing an English dub.
“You have seven days. Just kidding! We’re excited to announce that The World Ends with You The Animation English dub is officially on its way to Funimation, and we’ve got your details on the series’ cast, crew, and more,” Funimation wrote on their website. “Episode 1 of The World Ends with You The Animation English dub will arrive on Funimation, which means it’s almost time for you to kickoff (or re-live!) the death-defying journey of Neku, Shiki, Beat, Rhyme and more.”
They continue, “The English voice cast for the series includes Ben Balmaceda (Kemono Jihen, Attack on Titan) as Neku, Morgan Lauré (DECA-DENCE, Gleipnir) as Shiki, Van Barr Jr. (Edge of Eternity) as Beat and Dani Chambers (The Day I Became a God, ASTRA LOST IN SPACE) as Rhyme.”

HBO Max Prepares To Launch New Adult Animated Series “Ten Year Old Tom”

0

Warner Media recently announced that they are developing a new adult animated series titled “Ten Year Old Tom” for their HBO Max streaming service. Created and written by Steve Dildarian, who also voices Tom, the show follows the young kid working through advice given to him by well-meaning adults. It is added to a growing number of animated shows added to their catalogue.
According to a press release, the series stars Byron Bowers, Todd Glass, Gillian Jacobs, Edi Patterson, and John Malkovich with guest appearances by David Duchovny, Jennifer Coolidge, Natasha Lyonne, Mark Proksch, Tim Robinson, George Wallace, and more.
They describe the show as “a bitingly-funny ten episode adult animated comedy series, will debut THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 on HBO Max.”
HBO Max’s SVP of Comedy and Animation Billy Wee said, “Steve Dildarian is a tremendous talent and a wonderful collaborator.” He continued, “We can’t wait for comedy fans everywhere to experience the absurd brilliance of TEN YEAR OLD TOM.”
Dildarian adds, “I wanted to write a show about a kid who’s trying to make sense of the world around him, but to do it in a way that doesn’t pull punches.” He says, “HBO Max is the perfect home for a show like that, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.”
Their official synopsis explains, “TEN YEAR OLD TOM follows the misadventures of an average kid as he contends with questionable guidance from the well-meaning grownups around him. Being a kid is hard enough for Tom, but when bad influences seem to lurk around every corner – from litigious parents and drug dealing bus drivers to school administrators who want to sleep with his mom – it’s downright impossible. While the adults in Tom’s life certainly mean well, they just can’t manage to lead by example.”

Nicolas Cages Reveals Why He Won’t Be Seeing ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’

0

Nicolas Cage is taking on one of the most illustrious roles of his career, himself. In the upcoming action-comedy ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,’ Cage will play a fictionalized version of himself who accepts a million-dollar paycheck to attend the birthday party of a businessman played by Pedro Pascal, who also is a criminal. Things quickly escalate from there.
The movie, directed by Tom Gormican also stars Tiffany Hadish, Sharon Horgan, and Neil Patrick Harris. It is set to be released in Spring 2022 and while fans seem eager to see it, Cage has no such plans.
“That is a really great question and I’m still trying to answer it. One of my answers is that I’m never going to see that movie. I’m told it’s a good movie,” Cage told Collider. “My manager, Mike Nilon, who is also a producer on it, looked at it. He was very happy. I’m told the audience loved the movie. But it’s just too much of a whacked-out trip for me to go to a movie theater and watch me play Tom Gormican’s highly-neurotic, anxiety-ridden version of me. Because he kept pushing me in that direction. I said ‘Tom, that’s not really me. I’m really [made of] quiet, meditative, thoughtful moments. I’m not this neurotic, high-strung, anxiety-ridden guy all the time.’ But he said, ‘well, neurotic Cage is the best Cage.’ I said, ‘okay, okay. Let’s go, man. I’ll do what you want.’ I won’t see it. But I do hope you enjoy it.”
A “whacked-out trip” can describe several recent Cage films including ‘Willy’s Wonderland.’
The film’s official synopsis explains, “Nicolas Cage stars as… Nicolas Cage in the action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nicolas Cage.”
