Not too long ago, we wrote about the Denuo Novo company producing a Batman ’89 cowl. Unfortunately, that one was listed for $950. However, if you’re looking to stretch your dollars, there’s an alternative coming soon from Pure Arts.
The studio has listed a 1:1 scale cowl replica based on scans of the original prop from the landmark Tim Burton film. This one will only run you $799 and comes with more bang for the buck. Where Pure Arts excels over the Denuo Novo cowl is all in the presentation. That replica sits atop a plain black base, no extras included. On the other hand, Pure Arts includes a base that matches the 1989 movie’s aesthetic, and they’re throwing in a batarang!
The batarang appears to be a sold piece and does not fold up like the recently released NECA replica, but something is better than nuffin’. The Batman emblem is also removable and stays attached to the cowl via a magnet. Pure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure ArtsPure Arts
Now, you may be wondering why this cowl is less expensive than the other one. The Pure Arts version is not wearable. I feel that this prop is being made from a much more rigid material, possibly polystone. The competing model is made from fiberglass.
Using 3D scans of the original prop from the 1989 Tim Burton film and owned by PureArts, our Batman 1:1 Cowl Replica is carefully crafted for a realistic recreation of Batman’s Cowl. With a miniature Gotham City mayoral house statue and removable emblem, this first collectible in our Batman line has it all!
Here’s what you’re getting in the box:
Movie accurate sculpt of Batman’s Cowl based on 3D scans of original movie prop
Material: Poly-hybrid mixed media for accurate prop textures and feel
Miniature Gotham City mayoral house statue base
Removeable magnetic Batman™ emblem
PureArts.com Exclusive Edition includes Batarang replica with display base.
The cowl measures 22″ tall and weighs 12 lbs. It’s not clear if that includes the base or not. If this is made of polystone resin, then it will probably be that heavy.

If you’re looking to get your hands on a Plasma Series Ghostbuster figure of director Ivan Reitman, get ready to drum up some serious cash. Rather than creating a batch of these for collectors, Hasbro has decided to keep this run limited, very-very limited.
We spotted this info on the official Ghostbusters Twitter. Unfortunately, only two of these figures have been produced. While one will stay at Ghost Corps, the other will be auctioned off at a charity event for Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. The legendary director and producer comes with a megaphone, clapboard, and removable proton pack. The buck is the same as the other figures in the Plasma Series. The Ivan also comes with a proton stream and a Tobin’s Spirit Guide display box.
.@Hasbro has created two special limited-edition Ivan Reitman action figures. So much thought and detail went into this figure that they’ve even included a recreation of the megaphone Ivan used while filming on the set of Ghostbusters. #GhostbustersDaypic.twitter.com/80TDzCExMm
Hasbro has created two special limited-edition Ivan Reitman action figures. So much thought and detail went into this figure that they’ve even included a recreation of the megaphone Ivan used while filming on the set of Ghostbusters.
One figure is a gift to our friends and partners at Ghost Corps, to be displayed permanently at their offices in honor of Ivan. The other will be auctioned off during a fundraising event to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Stay tuned for information on how you can bid for this amazing figure and help support a cause near and dear to Ivan’s heart.

Reitman passed away in February of this year. He left behind a legacy that included not only Ghostbusters but also Stripes, Kindergarten Cop, Animal House, and Heavy Metal. We’ll post an update as soon as we learn when the fundraising event will occur.
Will you be bidding on the Ivan Reitman figure for charity? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hey kids! You love Transformers, right? Well, Super7 has what you’ve all been asking for! Yep, it’s a $55 corpse of Optimus Prime! Devoid of color and beat to hell, this figure is excellent for those who love reliving that moment when the great Autobot bit the dust thanks to Hot Rod’s stupidity!
The fourth wave of Transformers Ultimates action figures has been announced, and it’s full of fan favorites. OK, dead Optimus is a bit weird to include, but G1 Soundwave and Starscream make up for it. These figures may not transform, but you can’t get more cartoon accurate than these.
Aside from the premium figures being cartoon and movie-accurate, Soundwave and Starscream include alternate heads that match the Takar Tomy original toy counterparts. In addition, Soundwave has a third head matching his look from the old Marvel comics. So yes, the loyal Decepticon did have a mouth at one point.
Each figure is priced at the typical $55, but the set of three can be pre-ordered for $165. Unfortunately, these figures are still a ways out and are not estimated to ship until the Summer of 2023. Super7Super7

Over six months have passed since the HasLabs proton pack met its funding goals. Since then, the webpage for the project has never been updated. Not even the stretch goals were revised to show they were completed. We were left in darkness, wondering what the status was on this replica.
After all this time, the team at HasLabs has finally given us some info, and it’s welcome news. On both the official Ghostbusters’ Twitter and Hasbro Pulse, we received new updates regarding the pack and the items included in the stretch goals.
For fans who backed the pack, check out the latest shots of the upgraded HasLab Egon Spengler Proton Pack – based on the #Ghostbusters: Afterlife prop.
From what I can gather, some new metal parts have been added to the pack, including that Clippard valve. In addition, a few finer details look to be added, like additional dents and chips. The added copper (plastic) wiring at the Clippard valve’s base looks like it’s no longer two parts, making me wonder if it is removable. The draw of the pack during fundraising was that it had removable parts so you could use it as a Ghostbusters 1984 replica without all the modifications Egon made in Afterlife. Hasbro PulseHasbro PulseHasbro Pulse
The HasLab team did verify that the pack will still be fully compatible with an ALICE LC-1 frame:
A sturdy metal rod holds the cyclotron snug on your Pack, so you don’t experience the embarrassment of trying to bust a ghoul with a loose cover. There’s also a real metal ion arm, Clippard valve, v-hook that’s compatible with the Spengler’s Neutrona Wand, and two metal switches (housed within the cyclotron) so fans can select 1984 mode or Afterlife mode. Also included at no extra charge (sorry, Venkman) are 5 metal C-clamps for collectors to use to secure the Proton Pack to an ALICE System LC-1 Field Pack Frame.
One stretch goal was that both the hose and a battery pack would be included so the Spengler’s Neutrona Wand could be integrated with the replica. It was unclear at first if there would be an additional functionality between the two parts, but HasLab confirmed you would be able to restart the proton pack, but only within a limited time frame:
When cosplayers turn off their Proton Packs, there will be a free-roaming 5-minute window in which they can power their Packs back up… with their Plasma Series Spengler’s Neutrona Wands!
It may be a small change, but it’s welcome.
The display stand has also been modified to allow the hose to stay connected. The pack weighs 15 pounds, so it will be interesting to see if the plastic used in the stand can hold up over time.
Egon’s Journal, the disappointing tier goal, has also been revised. The 16-page booklet has now doubled in size. Now at 32-pages, the journal is … still a very weak inclusion for a $500 replica:
This journal chronicles Egon Spengler’s time as a Ghostbuster from before the Manhattan Crossrip to the return of Vigo the Carpathian and beyond, including brand-new content shedding some light on just what our favorite straightlaced scientist was up to during his time in Summerville. Our writers worked closely with our partners at Sony Consumer Products and Ghost Corps to offer fans this incredible, official Ghostbusters collectible. Stuffed with sketches, designs, musings, newspaper clippings, promo fliers, never-before-seen equipment, and some carefully placed Easter eggs.

‘Prima Doll Encore’ is a web novel series published by Visual Arts, a Japanese publisher. The sequel ‘Prima Doll Interlude’ was published by ASCII Media Works for their Dengeki G’s Magazine. It was adapted for an anime by the Japanese production company Bibury Animation Studios which will be launched in July 2022.
Sentai Filmworks announced that they are picking up the series for a home video release and will simulcast the show on the HiDive streaming service.
“Sentai announced today that it acquired exclusive rights to Prima Doll, the anime adaptation of acclaimed visual novel studio Key’s multimedia franchise of the same name, for audiences worldwide (excluding Asia). Sentai will premiere the series exclusively on HIDIVE, its direct-to-consumer streaming service, during the Summer 2022 simulcast season,” they said on their website.
They added that the “series stars Azumi Waki (The Helpful Fox Senko-san, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord, Blend S) as Haizakura, Tomori Kusunoki (Wonder Egg Priority, The Misfit of Demon King Academy, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online) as Karasuba, Miyu Tomita (MADE IN ABYSS, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Dorohedoro) as Gekka, Yuki Nakashima (BanG Dream! 2nd Season, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, Usakame) as Hokiboshi and Akari Kito (Demon Slayer, Classroom of the Elite, Toilet-bound Hanako-kun) as Retzel.”
Sentai Filmworks celebrated the announcement on Twitter:
MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,
“Kuronekotei—a cafe located in the imperial capital’s fifth ward. Girls who work there are autonomous mechanical dolls, also known as automata. They were originally created as weapons for the great war that ended only a few years ago. Now, they are now looking for new roles in a peaceful world.”
The anime is written by Kai and Tōya Okano with Akane Yano handling the character designs. Two manga adaptions are being released including ‘Prima Doll New Order’ and ‘Prima Doll: Welcome to Kuronekotei.’
‘El-Hazard: The Alternative World’ is a fantasy anime series that ran from May 26, 1995, to January 25, 1996, with a total of seven OVAs. It was written by Ryoe Tsukimura and directed by Hiroki Hayashi for the Japanese animation studio AIC and Pioneer LDC. It had several runs in both the United States and the United Kingdom, with Anime Limited announcing they are releasing a special edition of the final OVA ‘The Alternative World’ on Blu-ray DVD boxset in England.
“After releasing El-Hazard: The Magnificent World OVA series months ago, Anime Limited have acquired the UK rights to release El-Hazard: The Alternative World as a collector’s edition Blu-ray release,” they said on their website. They are planning an “early bird” on Thursday, June 16.
The licensing for ‘El-Hazard: The Magnificent World’ is currently held by Nozomi Entertainment in the United States. Here is the image from their anniversary release:
MyAnimeList lists the synopsis as follows,
“After Makoto Mizuhara agrees to testify against the boisterous student council president Katsuhiko Jinnai for bribing school clubs in the recent student council elections, Jinnai chases him down in an attempt to silence his self-proclaimed rival. Suddenly, during the chase, time stops for everyone—except Makoto. Perplexed, he wanders around the campus until he notices a light coming from the school’s closed-off basement, where an ancient relic had just been uncovered.
Makoto is walking toward the artifact surrounded by strings of light, when out of it comes an otherworldly woman who claims she has been waiting for ten thousand years to see him. Weakened by the passage of time, she uses her remaining power to transport a confused Makoto to another world, which she refers to as El-Hazard. However, others who are still at school are also caught in the spell, namely: Jinnai; Masamichi Fujisawa, the alcoholic teacher; and Nanami Jinnai, the headstrong sister of president Jinnai.
The fantastical and magnificent world of El-Hazard awaits these four individuals where they will become entangled in the story of its inhabitants and embark on an adventure filled with laughter, danger, and even romance.”
The music for the series was done by Seikou Nagaoka.
ThreeZero Studios is jumping from Transformers, Voltron, and Rambo into the world of indie comic book figures. Straight from the pages of Valiant Comics, the chalk-white assassin Bloodshot is getting a new action figure from the Hong Kong-based studio. Figures.com showed this single image preview of the upcoming Bloodshot figures. That’s it. There’s not a lot to go on here. Bloodshot will be a 6″ tall figure with a buck that looks similar to the current Marvel Legends line. Accessories will probably be limited to firearms and maybe an alternate head resembling his look in the early Valiant comic books. This is all a guess, keep in mind.
From what we’ve seen concerning ThreeZero’s other action figures, I do not doubt that Bloodshot will look great. It’s not clear which Bloodshot this is. The original Angelo Mortalli or 1997’s Raymond Garrison? Regardless, he’ll certainly look better than Vin Diesel did in that 2020 adaptation of the character. ThreeZero
Did you forget about that movie? Yeah, I did, too. It premiered in March of that year and fell about $8 million short of matching its production budget.
The 2020 movie was written by Truth or Dare‘s Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer, who wrote Bird Box. So, not off to a great start there. It was directed by Dave Wilson, whose previous directing credits included a single Love, Death & Robots short. Can you see why this movie moved out of theatres faster than a nun’s first curry?
Aside from the cool look and the indie comic thing, Bloodshot wasn’t much of a standout when it came to his powers. He was pretty much like Wolverine or Deadpool, but the healing, reflexes, and strength came from nanites in Bloodshot’s system. Sometimes all you need is a good story, and a cool look, and comic book fans will dismiss the more derivative aspects of a character.
Let us know what you think of Bloodshot below.
