The reboot anime series ‘Urusei Yatsura’ is finding a new streaming home after the North American distribution rights were acquired by Sentai Filmworks, who stated they were releasing on the HiDive app.

“HIDIVE announced today its acquisition of Urusei Yatsura, the highly anticipated, new TV series based on the best-selling manga of the same name by legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi, the renowned creator of Inuyasha, Ranma ½ and Maison Ikkoku. A new adaptation of the beloved classic series, Urusei Yatsura features the instantly recognizable and utterly iconic character Invader Girl Lum and will premiere on HIDIVE during the Fall 2022 simulcast season,” they said on their website.

HiDive added, “Animated by David Production (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Cells at Work, Fire Force), Urusei Yatsura is directed by Hideya Takahashi (director of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind) and Yasuhiro Kimura (director of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind) and written by Yuko Kakihara (scriptwriter for Cells at Work! and Kids on the Slope).”

The show is based on the romantic sci-fi comedy manga by Rumiko Takahashi and was published from September 24, 1978 – February 4, 1987. It won Best Comic at the 18th Seiun Award in 1987.

You can watch the trailer below:

AniList describes the synopsis as follows,

“Urusei Yatsura concerns the tempestuous relationship between two focal characters: Ataru Moroboshi who is possibly the most unfaithful, unlucky and lecherous idiot to have ever been born, and there’s Lum, a tigerskin-bikini-clad alien package of sex appeal, jealousy and electricity who’s fallen for him. The series chronicles the misadventures of these two stubborn teenagers along with a veritable entourage of weird characters. Among these characters is the richest boy on the planet, a superhuman schoolgirl, a fire-breathing baby, a powerful priestess/school nurse, a cute and psychotic alien vixen with a split personality, a gender-bending martial artist, an alien biker chick, an ice queen of Neptune, a deranged monk, a giant ghost cat and hundreds of other lunatic personalities; aliens, humans and inhumans alike interact in endless hysteria in a town named Tomobiki.”

The original 1981 from Kitty Films had a huge fanbase. The series’ popularity led to a six-film series as well as a dozen OVAs based on the property.

FNAF Has A New Director, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Onboard

0

The tale of getting Five Nights At Freddy’s from the small to the big screen has been long. Chris Columbus was supposed to direct at one point, but that was four years ago. So I wouldn’t blame you if you considered the adaptation lost, especially after social media tried to cancel the series creator. However, new life (or “gifts”) have been bestowed on Freddy and his friends.

Emma Tammi, who directed two episodes of Hulu’s Into The Dark, has been tapped to helm the long-awaited Five Night At Freddy’s adaptation, according to Deadline. Although she may not have limited experience in the director’s chair, she’ll have some help from the special effects masters at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Honestly, this is the only company I would trust to meet the “family-friendly” to “f’ing terrifying” turns the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza animatronics undergo after the lights turn off.

We have some good news for those worried if the story of the haunted robots is in good hands. Tammi and the series creator, Scott Cawthon, have met, and she received his seal of approval saying:

“In meeting with Emma, I felt she had a great understanding of the franchise, and really felt that she could craft something that would please the fanbase and keep people on the edge of their seats.”

Considering the simple premise of the games, it’s surprising that a film has not already been made. It is slightly concerning that this will be a Blumhouse production. The company’s films are not known for having the best budgets, but a good director can work wonders with little money. The right mix of atmosphere and tension is key. Also, only using Freddy, Chica, Foxy, and Bonnie when necessary may deliver a great horror film. Or we could get another Willy’s Wonderland.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of people have been hounding Blumhouse’s CEO, Jason Blum, about getting this movie off the ground:

“Five Nights at Freddy’s is more consistently asked about than any other film I’ve ever worked on, and I’m thrilled to confirm it’s finally happening! With Emma Tammi at the helm, we’re committed to making Scott’s vision of the movie come to life. Rest assured, it will be and is worth the wait.”

So will you be watching the FNAF film when it is finally released?

‘Black Clover’ Film Trailer Released, Key Visual Leaked

0

The highly anticipated film spin-off ‘Black Clover’ has made waves even before it has been released. The movie’s production studio Pierrot has dropped a trailer revealing the title as ‘Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.’ The trailer features flashy sequences from the feature and concludes with protagonist Asta raising his swords for battle before the release date is announced as March 31, 2023.

You can watch the trailer for the film below:

Anime Senpai has also noted that, in a precedented move, the movie will be released in Japan and on Netflix the same day. Often, international anime fans are forced to wait for varying lengths before they can see a film, but this time, fans of the fantasy series will get closure for the epic series.

A visual image from the film was also leaked via ‘Weekly Shonen Jump’ Issue 46 which shows a sketch of Asta raising his sword, ready for magical combat.

The movie will be directed by Ayataka Tanemura with Johnny Otoda and Ai Orii handling the script. The character designs are being done by Itsuko Takeda with Minako Seki scoring the film.

AniList describes the television show synopsis as follows,

“In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!”

The anime was named in the “Top 100 best anime of the 2010s” by Crunchyroll.

Akiba Maid War also stars Kondo Reina (Eta in The Eminence in Shadow and Ryo Shinonome in Cinderella Nine) as Nagomi Wahira and Sato Rina (Senjumaru Shutara in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War and Kaede Kagayama in Non Biyori) as Ranko Mannen,” HiDive said on their website.

The music for the show is being managed by composer Yoshihiro Ike, who has worked on such anime as ‘Sonic X,’ ‘Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya,’ and ‘Vampire in the Garden.’

You can watch the trailer below:

HiDive describes the synopsis as follows,

“Akihabara is the center of the universe for the coolest hobbies and quirkiest amusements. In the spring of 1999, bright-eyed Nagomi Wahira moves there with dreams of joining a maid café. She quickly dons an apron at café Ton Tokoton, AKA the Pig Hut. But adjusting to life in bustling Akihabara isn’t as easy as serving tea and delighting customers. Paired with the dour Ranko who never seems to smile, Nagomi must do her best to elevate the Pig Hut over all other maid cafés vying for top ranking. Along the way she’ll slice out a place for herself amid the frills and thrills of life at the Pig Hut. Just when Nagomi’s dreams are within her grasp, she discovers not everything is as it seems amid the maid cafés of Akihabara.”

Sentai Filmworks has acquired the license to release the series on home video.

Marvel Comics Promotes Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine in New Comic Book. Backlash Ensues.

0

Marvel Comics has teamed up with Pfizer and BioNTech to produce a brand new Avengers comic called “Avengers: Everyday Heroes” which serves as a way to help promote the COVID-19 vaccination.

Written by Paul Allor and art by Pico Diaz, the story sees Marvel villain Ultron reading havoc on the city as the Avengers fight him off. Meanwhile, a group of patients at a hospital compare how Ultron keeps coming back to how the COVID-19 virus also keeps coming back. They claim that if you keep up on your vaccinations that you will be able to beat back the virus, just like how the Avengers beat back Ultron.

The comic is made available digitally for free for everyone to read via the official Pfizer Twitter account and Marvel’s website.

However, shortly after the announcement was made the tweet saw massive pushback online, getting massively “ratioed” via the replies and in quote tweets. While many of the replies are being hidden by Pfizer the quote tweets are still visible.

Many responses criticize the push for the controversial treatment which has been heavily politicized over the past couple years. Many also criticizing the promotion of big Pharma corporations. The fact that Pfizer has become such a controversial company in recent months doesn’t help.

Yes, it is true that in the past in shows like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and G.I. Joe used to have P.S.A.s at at end of each episode, but this is an outright advertisement for a specific pharmaceutical product from a controversial provider.

In 2017, Marvel cancelled a similar promotional comic book for defense contractor Northrop Grumman due to Twitter backlash.

The Odds1Out Storytime Youtuber Gets His Own Netflix Show

0

Netflix announced back in June 2022 that for the past two years an animated series from a YouTube channel has been in the works. The new show is about a boy inspired by James Rallison’s YouTube channel The Odds1Out. The show, called Oddballs, will air on Netflix on October 7th.

Here is the trailer:

Oddballs is created by Rallison and Ethan Banville, both of who also serve as executive producers, along with Carl Faruolo and Michael Zoumas, with production in association with Atomic Cartoons.

The summary of the series is: Oddballs follows James, a bubble-shaped boy, whose observations on life fuel his comedic rants at everyday annoyances and elevates them to laughably absurd heights. Along with his best friends Max (a talking crocodile) and Echo (a girl who claims to be from the future), James’ ridiculous schemes to question norms often result in disaster.

Voice casts includes James Rallison as himself, Julian Gant as Max, Kimberly Brooks as Echo, Gary Anthony Williams as Mr McFly, and Carl Faruolo as Stuart.

In a recent video from September 24th, The Odds1Out uploaded a video giving advice and tips and what to expect when you are pitching a story idea. In the video, James also gave background into what it was like for him and Ethan to find someone who would approve their show pitch idea. He shared the story of what happened on the very first pitch meeting. After pitching their idea, an executive told James that “no studio would ever want to work with a YouTuber.” The Odds1Out YouTube channel was created on August 30th, 2014 and currently has 18.2 million subscribers.

They first pitched to Netflix in the beginning of 2020, but did not get greenlit to make the show until August 2020. Given that by then the world was shutting down, this meant that the entire production was created during the lockdowns with little to no human interaction. This includes the writing, storyboarding, designing, and voicing acting.

Check out these two videos to see the announcement from June and the latest video from September 24th talking about his experience with making the new animated series:

James Rallison is currently running his third gaming Kickstarter campaign. The first two were from 2018 and 2020, with both being successfully funded for two different card games. The latest Kickstarter is an interactive puzzle adventure that incorporates augmented reality via mobile phones and tablets. It was fully funded on Launch Day on September 24th. The campaign ends on October 25th.

‘Rust’ To Resume Filming After Alec Baldwin Reaches Settlement With Victim Halyna Hutchins’ Family

0

Despite ongoing legal issues, the controversial film ‘Rust’ has resumed filming following the announcement that star and producer Alec Baldwin has reached a settlement with victim Halyna Hutchins’ estate. As part of the deal, her widowed husband Matthew Hutchins will be added as executive producer on the film with production resuming in January 2023.

Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed during a shoot in which Baldwin claims he accidentally fired a “prop” gun, later revealed to be a live firearm, which he told was “cold.” He also wounded director Joel Souza in the shoulder. The incident followed reports of safety concerns and conditions the cast and crew were facing during the production. Several other lawsuits were filed and a criminal investigation was started by local authorities.

Mr. Hutchins said in a statement obtained by Deadline, “We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed.”

He added, “The filming of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023. I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin).”

“All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work,” he continued.

Baldwin also issued a statement on social media saying, “We are pleased to announce today the settlement of the civil case filed on behalf of the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”

Many commentators have noted Baldwin’s contradictory statements about the incident including some firearm experts, other actors, and pundits who have stated the tragic death could not have occurred the way the actor has described it.
