Henry Cavill’s Superman Returns … As A Queen Studios Bust

The more we learn about James Gunn’s plans for the DCEU, the more I’m starting to think I was too hard on Henry Cavill’s run as Superman. At least the collectibles market will keep the actor’s version of the Man of Steel alive.

If you’re looking to bring home a 1:1 scale bust of Cavill’s perfect face, then check out Queen Studios’ two versions of Cavill’s Superman: The Man of Steel (red and blue) and Justice League (black outfit). Both busts have a hidden baby Kal-El hidden behind the ‘S’ emblem or JL symbol. The tiny last Son of Krypton is kept company with an LED light.

Like the company’s other busts, Superman will feature glass eyes, and silicone skin, and his suit is made of polystone.

The busts are limited to 150 pieces for each version. They’ll be shipping out during the last quarter of 2023.

Sadly, Superman is only available in Mainland China, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This bust is not part of Queen Studios’ distribution deal with Sideshow Collectibles.

The base on the limited edition Superman bust is inspired by Superman’s Kryptionian spacecraft. The front of the base features the Superman and Justice League logos, respectively. The logo’s are magnetically attached, when removed collectors can reveal the inside of the spacecraft with the infant Kal El inside wrapped in swaddling blankets.

Although fans in the US can’t get this bust, you can still order the $2,500 1:3 scale Superman statue.

Activision Blizzard To Pay SEC $35M To Settle Whistleblower Case

0

We managed to go a whole month without having to talk about Activision Blizzard’s various lawsuits. Today, the embattled company finally put one of its legal issues to rest with a $35M smack on the wrist.

This settlement came after the Securities and Exchange Commission investigated complaints regarding Activision Blizzard’s alcohol-soaked culture of sexual harassment and for violating the SEC’s whistleblower protection rule.

According to a press release from the SEC, Activision Blizzard was fully aware of the issues. Still, the company “lacked controls and procedures among its separate business units to collect and analyze employee complaints of workplace misconduct.” This inaction resulted in employees’ concerns going unanswered or even documented.

In addition, from 2016 to 2021, the company also ran afoul of the government’s whistleblower rulesby requiring former employees to provide notice to the company if they received a request for information from the [SEC’s] staff.” The company failed on multiple levels during the four to five years this was going on, resulting in the agreed settlement.

The press release did not state if any $35M settlement would go towards whistleblowers or other former employees of the video game powerhouse. After reading the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Statement Regarding Offers of Settlement, it appears that the money may find its way into the hands of those harmed. However, given this is not a case of investor fraud, it’s hard to say.

One interesting thing that the SEC’s Director of the Regional Office in Denver, Jason Burt, said was that AB’s actions were “illegal.” However, no one at the company’s highest levels appears to be taking ownership or losing employment. With more lawsuits still making their way slowly through the system, maybe one of these will eventually end with some justice.

I wonder if Microsoft is reconsidering the acquisition.

Pokémon Squishmallows Are Available at Walmart Stores and GameStop Online!

If you have been wanting to get your hands on the Pokémon Squishmallows I have some good news for you. The super huggable plushies are showing back up in stores and online. Just yesterday I saw a bin full of them at our local Walmart!

Pikachu and Gengar Squishmallows are available for a May pre-order date in both 10″ and 14″ sizes at GameStop.

Pikachu

10″ version is $19.99

14″ version is $29.99

Gengar

10″ version for $19.99

14″ version for $29.99

Check your Walmart stores because mine had them in stock yesterday.

My store had a bin full of both Pikachu and Gengar sitting out in an aisle near the front of the store.

You might also want to check out your Target stores as they have the exclusive 20″ Pikachu plush.

Pikachu– $44.99

These have been incredibly hard to get for whatever reason. But they are reappearing. The prices on these are a lot higher than standard Squishmallows, but many collectors and Pokemon fans will still feel it’s worth the cost.

Because they are showing up the prices are finally starting to come down on sites like eBay. Don’t give up hope! They were set to be released this month and might be a lot easier to come by soon.

I’m kind of interested in what characters the next wave will include?

What do you think? Are these worth the price and the hype?

“Deep in the forest, far from any human contact, there lives a child named Ryouma Takebayashi. He engages in the rather strange hobby of keeping various types of slimes as pets. Furthermore, despite his young age, he has a sturdy physique and good compatibility for magic. All of this is because, having endured much hardship in his previous life, three gods grace Ryouma with a second chance to pursue one goal: savor the wonders of life.

After three years of comfortable solitude pass by, Ryouma meets people that will change his current life forever. When he encounters and helps some soldiers tend to their wounded comrade, the group convinces him to accompany them to visit the nearby town’s ducal family. Ryouma agrees and soon embarks on a journey to explore the vast world beyond his home.”

There is a manga version of the series published by Square Enix and illustrated by Ranran that has been launched since 2017.

Years later, young thief Dororo encounters the mysterious “Hyakkimaru”, a boy whose arms are blades and whose visionless eyes seem able to see monsters.”

‘Dororo’ is based on a manga series created by Osamu Tezuka and was serialized by Weekly Shōnen Sunday and Bōken Ō from 1967 to 1969. It was published in North America by the Kodansha USA imprint Vertical.

Geeky’s Picks – Girls Crew Sailor Moon-esque Earrings

Sailor Moon has been one of my favorites since I first saw it in the 1990’s. When I find cute, and sparkly, pieces that remind me of the show, I gravitate towards them. If you are unfamiliar with Girls Crew, they are a jewelry company that creates fun pieces including IP like Star Wars or Disney princesses.

The pieces I am going to share are not actually Sailor Moon pieces, hence the “Sailor Moon-esque” title, but they remind me a lot of the show. While officially part of their GC-Galaxy collection, I think Sailor Moon fans would find them exciting! I personally own two of the earring sets.

I will mention that these pieces are petite so the price is a bit high, but they do offer sales from time to time. They also give you three choices of metal colors on most pieces: silver, gold, or rose gold.

Let’s take a look at some of the pieces!

Abra Kadabra Studs – $38

If you are a Sailor Moon fan, you can probably see why these remind me of the character and the show.

Currently they are only available in yellow gold tone. Mine are rose gold.

Photo does not do them justice. They are very pretty in person.

The size on these are 1cm long or about .4 inches.

Abra Kadabra Necklace – $48

The necklace matches the earrings and the pendant seems to be the same size as the earrings.

  • 16″ chain with a 2″ extension, 1 cm charm length

I do not own the necklace so I can’t speak to how it is in person. The chain length is small, but these tend to run dainty.

Spellbound Studs – $38

I also own these earrings. Again, they very much remind one of Sailor Moon’s Crescent Wand, but with a star.

Right now this one is available in all three metal finishes. These are also 1cm long.

Mine are done in the gold tone finish.

Again, very pretty in person.

Spellbound Necklace – $48

This necklace is available in all gold and rose gold finishes. Like the other necklace it measures

  • 16″ chain with a 2″ extension
  • Pendant approx. 1cm

If you look around the site you can see all kinds of amazing offerings. Their Galaxy collection is really amazing and definitely worth a look!

Here are just a few options:

What do you think? Which piece(s) are your favorite?

New “Dust Buster” Star Trek TNG Phaser Replica Is Here!

0

Finally! Factory Entertainment is getting back to creating props based on Star Trek: The Next Generation. This time, the company is returning to the series’ early days with the earlier version of the Type-2 Phase.

The $499.99 replica of the pistol-grip Phaser is also functional in a legal way. It features light effects and sounds. The prop’s body is made from metal and was “designed to capture the best elements from all variants in a single blended execution.

The Phaser will require (2) AAA batteries, which FE has included. The prop itself measures 8.25″ X 3″ X 1.75″. The display box is 11″ X 6.25″ X 3.5″. Although listed as a limited edition item, the number of produced replicas is not mentioned. Expect these to ship out this June.

The Type-2 Phaser, also known as the Dust Buster, proceeds to the more commonly seen Phaser in Star Trek shows around 2374. The nickname, though pretty obvious, is due to the prop looking like a 1980’s compact handheld vacuum by the same name. Oddly, Dust Busters (the real ones) are still around today, even though Back to the Future promised us they’d be considered defunct thanks to dust-proof coverings!

Like the TNG medical kit Factory Entertainment released a couple of years ago, the Type-2 Phaser comes in a wooden display case with the Starfleet emblem etched on the glass.

When can we get a Tricorder? With the advancements in small LED screens, you’d think more companies would jump on creating one of Star Trek’s most iconic pieces of scientific equipment. However, if you don’t want to wait for a licensed replica to reappear, many prop builders on Etsy and other sites make them.

Will Fans of ‘The Boys’ Pay $349 For This Queen Maeve Figure?

Maeve may be out of The 7, but she’s still attempting to be stunning and brave in the collectibles market. The key word here is “attempting.” We came across a new Queen Maeve 1:6 scale figure on Sideshow and noticed something was slightly off.

For a $349 action figure, this thing doesn’t look like it’s on the same level as something from Hot Toys. It captures some of Dominique McElligott’s fantastic face, but the eyes are creepy. Maybe they’re too blue or too wide?

The detailing on Maeve’s costume also leaves a lot to be desired. I applaud Star Ace Toys for using a seamless body for the figure, but I’d be hard-pressed to spend that much money on something like this when there are other collectibles with superior craftsmanship and a lower price.

She’s expected to ship during the Summer. If you do decide to pre-order Maeve, here’s what you’ll get:

  • Sixth scale Seamless body (approximately 30 cm tall) with over 30 points of articulation
  • Fully realized authentic likeness of Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve in the Amazon Prime TV show “The Boys” (2021)
  • The portraits are specially hand painted and feature detailed skin texture and accurate facial expressions
  • Head
    – One (1) portrait with normal expression with rooted hair
  • Body
    – One (1) Seamless Body with over 30 points of articulation
  • Hands
    – One (1) pair of open hands
    – One (1) pair of fist han
    – One (1) pair of sword hands
    – One (1) rude gesture hand
  • Costume
    – One (1) Queen Maeve uniform with printed detail
    – One (1) set of forearm bracers
    – One (1) Queen Maeve emblem
    – One (1) arm band
    – One (1) Pair of Boots
  • Accessories
    – One (1) sword
    – One (1) martini glass
    – One (1) mobile phone
    – One (1) hairband
  • One (1) Diorama with Queen Maeve logo and 4 removeable rods with flash effects
  • Figure Stand

Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve is quite different than her comic book counterpart. For one, she’s alive but now powerless thanks to Soldier Boy’s explosive Compound V-sapping ability; what will the former superhero do with her time?

The Boys’ second and third seasons tried to balance social commentary about corporations using sexual and racial identities as marketing ploys. Sometimes it worked; sometimes, it fell flat. Hopefully, Amazon will move past this in the fourth season, but the writers want to drive home that annoying MAGA angle with Homelander.

‘Vinland Saga’ Season 2 Trumpets An English Dub

0

The 2023 second season of the Viking epic anime ‘Vinland Saga’ has made its way to fans after the Japanese animation studio MAPPA took over production after a four-year hiatus since the first season ended. After the premiere, Crunchyroll announced that they would be releasing the English dub.

They revealed the cast list on their website:

  • Einar voiced by Ian Sinclair (Sugimoto in Golden Kamuy)
  • Emma voiced by Wendy Powell (Envy in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
  • Ketil voiced by Doug Jackson (Rob in Black Clover)
  • Leif voiced by John Swasey (All For One in My Hero Academia)
  • Lotta voiced by Marisa Duran (Hana in Aoashi)
  • Thorfinn voiced by Mike Haimoto (Serpenter in My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission)
  • Canute voiced by Josh Grelle (Armin in Attack on Titan)
  • Narrator voiced by Kent Williams (Narrator in Tribe Nine)

Jerry Jewell works on the project as the ADR Director with Jill Harris joining as the assistant ADR Director.

You can watch the trailer for the second season:

The anime is based on a manga by Japanese author Makoto Yukimura and published by Kodansha, which also releases it in the United States.

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“Young Thorfinn grew up listening to the stories of old sailors that had traveled the ocean and reached the place of legend, Vinland. It’s said to be warm and fertile, a place where there would be no need for fighting—not at all like the frozen village in Iceland where he was born, and certainly not like his current life as a mercenary. War is his home now. Though his father once told him, “You have no enemies, nobody does. There is nobody who it’s okay to hurt,” as he grew, Thorfinn knew that nothing was further from the truth.

The war between England and the Danes grows worse with each passing year. Death has become commonplace, and the viking mercenaries are loving every moment of it. Allying with either side will cause a massive swing in the balance of power, and the vikings are happy to make names for themselves and take any spoils they earn along the way. Among the chaos, Thorfinn must take his revenge and kill Askeladd, the man who murdered his father. The only paradise for the vikings, it seems, is the era of war and death that rages on.”

Sentai Filmworks also produced an English dub of the first season with Wit Studios producing the animation of all twenty-six episodes.
