Netflix To Stream Brazilian Cartoon ‘Wake Up, Carlo!’

Netflix is doubling down on international animation with the announcement that will stream the Brazilian animated series ‘Wake Up, Carlo!’ beginning this summer. From Copa Studio, the show has been greenlit for one season at this time and will have a limited run.

“Imagine falling into a deep sleep, only to return to reality years later. What if all the people around you are completely different from the ones you once knew? That’s what happens in Wake Up, Carlo!, Netflix’s first Brazilian animated series, from the creators of Jorel’s Brother. It will premiere on July 6, and the trailer has just been released,” Netflix said in a statement.

They added, “Directed by Juliano Enrico, Wake Up, Carlo! is an irreverent look at the importance of friendship, imagination, and the freedom to be ourselves. The series has 13 episodes and is produced by Copa Studio, with Zé Brandão as producer and Vivian Amadio as executive producer.”

Despite shutting down its in-house studio, Netflix has been expanding its animation catalog with anime and cartoons from other nations from Europe and South America.

Netflix describes the synopsis as follows,

“The series follows Carlo, a 7-year-old boy who loves fun, adventure and cookies—specifically, the guava-filled cookies known as ‘goiabitos.’ But after falling under a spell that makes him sleep for 22 years, he wakes up and realizes that everything is different—including his best friends, who are now responsible adults. However, with his positivity, free spirit, and total lack of understanding about the fundamentals of life, Carlo will inspire them to reclaim their sense of fun and be just as free as he is.”

Copa Studio previously released ‘The Microadventures of Tito and Cody’ (Discovery Kids), ‘Haunted Tales for Wicked Kids’ (Cartoon Network), ‘Trunk Train,’ and its 2022 film spin-off ‘Trunk Train – The Movie.’
