Hogwarts Legacy: Five Exciting Reasons You’ll Want to Play It

It’s no secret that Harry Potter fans of all ages are looking forward to the release of Hogwarts Legacy from Avalanche Software. Whether you’re a fan of the books or movies based on the Wizarding World, the game is aiming to fulfill your need for a magical adventure within the world of Harry Potter. It doesn’t matter what house you’ll want to represent, everyone is going to be welcomed to the school of witchcraft and wizardry at launch. But those that are interested but don’t know a ton about may want to know a bit more before they decided whether or not to take the trip to Hogwarts in the upcoming game.

Hogwarts Legacy is going to be released on multiple platforms, including current-gen and last-generation consoles. While witches and wizards will be playing the game early with the deluxe edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, last-gen consoles, and Nintendo Switch will have to wait a bit longer for a later 2023 release. Regardless of what version you pick up, there’s going to be a whole lot of magic and mystery unfolding at Hogwarts. So let’s dive into five things you’ll want to know about Hogwarts Legacy and why you’ll want to play it on release.

Exploring Hogwarts and the Wizarding World

One of the biggest selling points of Hogwarts Legacy is how players will be able to explore the school grounds and visit various locations. Many places featured in the game that you’ll be able to go to include important areas that were shown in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies, as well as locations referred to in the books. Not only will you get to roam the school grounds, both on foot and using a broom to fly around, but you’ll be able to interact with many key places that Harry Potter fans have been interested in for a long time.

Ever wanted to know what the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw common rooms looked like? This is the first time they’ll be depicted in any form of media related to the Wizarding World. On top of that, players can visit other locations like the Forbidden Forrest, Hogsmeade, and the famous Diagon Alley. If visiting places like this were part of your Wizarding World dream, then the game will have a lot for you to get immersed in.

Customizing Your Character’s Legacy

Because Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game, you’ll have the ability to make your own custom character and personalize many aspects about them. From your clothing to your basic appearance and voice, your legacy at Hogwarts begins and goes on how you want it to. You even have an area called the Room of Requirement to personalize and modify to your heart’s content with many items and other custom elements. Everything from your Hogwarts House and your relationships can change throughout the course of the game. New friends can become allies and open up new conversations and secrets that you wouldn’t otherwise discover alone.

If you’re aiming to be a good-natured and helpful student in the magical world, then you can do so by overcoming many of the challenges while aiding others around you. But if you were feeling the need to cause a little chaos, like those who often do so while in Slytherin, then the game will allow you to do so. There’s no morality system within the game, but all of the actions that you take will have an influence in how the story plays out, as well as how it eventually ends.

Controlling Magic Like in the Books and Movies

Speaking of being good or bad, there’s also the matter of magic in the game. You have many options of magical spells pulled directly from the Harry Potter books and movies that can be used at almost any time. The Wizarding World is all about discovering new spells and using them in creative and interesting ways. Of course, you may have to attend classes and complete various quests to learn and uncover new spells to aid you. You can’t expect to use every kind of magic when you don’t even know the spells or the hand movements for that matter!

Every kind of magic you’ve seen in all forms of media based on Harry Potter will have some sort of relevance in Hogwarts Legacy. There are going to be many different spells that will become important to use and learn as you progress. Some will change the environment around you, while others can be used in combat. You can use the Stupify spell against enemies and other forms of offensive magic many other great wizards you know have used to protect themselves against the dark arts.

Or if you’re into the dark arts themselves, there are going to be many powerful and damaging spells to greatly injure your enemies. Those that get the Deluxe edition of the game will have access to unforgivable curses like Avada Kedavra (the killing curse) and the Cruciatus Curse, which Harry Potter fans know can inflict some serious pain.

Interacting with Magical Creatures

What would a game about the Wizarding World be without many of the magical creatures that live in the land around Hogwarts? The developers of Hogwarts Legacy have discussed how you’ll see and interact with many beasts and friendly creatures that you’ll come across during the story. Some will be cute and cuddly around you, while others will be vicious and hostile. Luckily, you can tame and care for a number of them. And as you go on, you’ll be able to ride some magical creatures as well.

But what about the beasts that can harm you? There are many that can be found within the game that you might find yourself battling against, not just interacting with. Dragons, trolls, mooncalves, and other creatures you may have seen in the Harry Potter films will make some sort of appearance. In some cases, you’ll be able to use magical creatures like mandrakes to help you gain an advantage over enemies while in combat.

An Original Prequel Story to the Series

Now even though the plot of Hogwarts Legacy will be original, it will still have some connection to the main Harry Potter series. The story of Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1890s, taking place many years before Harry Potter and his friends come to Hogwarts for their first year. Your character joins Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in their fifth year, starting a bit later than most other students who join the school.

A lot of the locations and a few characters that have appeared in both the books and films of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts will show up. Though it may be many years prior to the events of the movies, you might notice similarities to various parts of Hogwarts as you explore the school grounds. At the same time, you might notice a familiar ghost or other faces roaming around the halls of the school.

There will even be characters briefly shown or mentioned in the books and films that will be seen in more detail for the first time such as Phineas Nigellus Black, the headmaster of Hogwarts during the game. If you’re an avid Harry Potter fan, then you’ll definitely notice these bits of fan service. It will give a much-needed sense of authenticity to Hogwarts Legacy and its place within the Wizarding World series.

Are you excited to play Hogwarts Legacy when it releases for consoles? What is your Hogwarts House going to be when you first start playing the game? There’s still plenty of time before the release to think about everything. Post a comment down below and let us know your thoughts about it all!
