A mysterious Dragon Hourglass has started an ominous countdown on the official website for the hit isekai anime ‘The Rising of the Shield Hero.’ The producers of the show are being quiet about what the countdown is for, but fans can find out on April 7, 2023.
“The Dragon Hourglass suddenly appeared on the official Japanese website for The Rising of the Shield Hero anime franchise yesterday and has started a mysterious countdown,” Crunchyroll said on their website. “In the anime story, the Dragon Hourglass indicates how much time until the next Wave of Calamity.”
“What will happen when it reaches zero…? Don’t miss it,” they added.
Season 3 was announced at Crunchyroll Expo 2019.

The Rising of the Shield Hero wiki describes the synopsis as follows,
“Stories of old tell of four otherworldly heroes—wielding the sword, spear, bow, and shield—who defended the land from wave after wave of calamity. With the fate of the world in balance, the kingdom of Melromarc summons these legendary figures; in modern-day Japan, the call is answered, and the unwitting heroes are transported to this fantasy universe.
Thrust into Melromarc and given the title of “Shield Hero,” otaku Naofumi Iwatani is labeled the weakest due to his lack of offensive capability and apparent inexperience. When the heroes part ways to start their journeys, he only has one willing companion: the beautiful princess Malty Melromarc. However, she soon betrays him, steals all his money, and accuses him of harming her.
For his alleged crimes, Naofumi is branded a criminal and made an outcast of society. With hatred filling his heart, he sets out alone, vowing vengeance against those who wronged him.”
The first season was produced by Kinema Citrus with DR Movie taking over for season two but production has returned to Kinema Citrus for season three.
