Star Wars Eclipse Narrative Has No Game Over and More

Details about Star Wars Eclipse have been scarce in the news. Ever since the reveal of the game at The Game Awards with a trailer, developer Quantic Dream has been quiet about the project. Much of this was due to turmoil happening at the studio due to lingering controversy, but things have moved on with the studio. Now after being silent for a long time, new details about Quantic Dream’s upcoming Star Wars game are popping up.

During an interview with IGN at the Tokyo Game Show, Quantic Dream vice president of marketing Lisa Pendse spoke about different aspects that fans can expect to see in the game. “There’s no game over… Anyone can die, anything can happen and the story sort of continues so that those signatures are still there.” Lisa also mentioned that the game will have multiple playable characters and an intricate branching narrative.

Star Wars Eclipse is a new game that will take place during the era of the High Republic. This is a new part of the Star Wars timeline that occurs at least 100 years before the events of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. In the reveal trailer shown at The Game Awards, many different Star Wars alien species and the Jedi Order were shown, with the possible rise of a new enemy of the time period.

While most of the High Republic has been explored in various Star Wars novels, the only big nod to it has come from the recent AAA game release from Respawn Entertainment, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In that game, Jedi knight Cal Kestis can discover chambers left over from the High Republic era, which opens up obstacles to discovering other hidden secrets of the era.

Lisa also went on to say during the interview that the game is still in the works at the studio. “Can I say it still exists? Because it exists… It’s just not ready. It’s simmering.” To date, no gameplay or other media from Star Wars Eclipse has been revealed since the official trailer. Various reports and rumors have come out since then, including speculation that Star Wars Eclipse would be more action-oriented compared to previous Quantic Dream titles. With any luck, more work can be done on the game and Quantic Dream will be okay with showing everyone another look at it sometime soon.
