0

Fans of the psychological thriller anime ‘Classroom of the Elite’ got some welcomed news with the announcement that the series is being renewed for a second season.
“Take your seats, everyone, one of the most-wanted anime sequels is finally happening! ‘Classroom of the Elite’ just revealed that a new sequel project is in the works with a visual by illustrator Shunsaku Tomose,” Funimation announced on their website. “Additional details are set to be revealed in a livestream event on March 6, featuring voice actors Shōya Chiba and Yurika Kubo.” They added, “Staff and cast for the sequel are yet to be confirmed.”
‘Classroom of the Elite’ is based on a manga written by Shōgo Kinugasa and illustrated by Shunsaku Tomose. It was published through Media Factory’s imprint MF Bunko J with Seven Seas Entertainment publishing it in English. The anime adaption is produced by the Japanese animation studio Lerche with Crunchyroll and Funimation handling North American distribution.
They also released a promo visual for the sequel announcement:

Wikipedia describes the synopsis as follows,
“In the distant future, the Japanese government has established the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School, dedicated to instruct and foster the generation of people that will support the country in the future. The students are given a high degree of freedom in order to closely mimic real life.
The story follows the perspective of Kiyotaka Ayanokōji, a quiet and unassuming boy who is not good at making friends and would rather keep his distance, but possesses unrivaled intelligence. He is a student of Class-D, which is where the school dumps its inferior students. After meeting Suzune Horikita and Kikyō Kushida, two other students in his class, Kiyotaka’s situation begins to change and he starts to get involved in many affairs, and his thought of ideal normal high school life begins to get scattered.”
The first season of ‘Classroom of the Elite’ was directed by Seiji Kishi and Hiroyuki Hashimoto.

Bumblebee’s G1-Inspired Optimus Prime Model Kit Coming Soon

This June, Yolopark will be releasing a 12″ (30cm) tall Optimus Prime model kit based on his appearance in 2018’s Bumblebee. The more G1-inspired Prime, the better, I always say.
The kit will run you $209.99 over at the Big Bad Toy Store. It can also be pre-ordered directly from Yolopark for $888 HKD. That’s a lot of money for something you have to assemble yourself, but the level of detail on Prime may make it worth the price. What really sucks is that there’s almost no info about the kit aside from the dimensions and accessories.
How many parts do you have to assemble? Are there any light-up features? Is the Matrix of Leadership removable? Is glue required? Is paint required? Which parts are metal? Which parts are plastic?
What we do know is that Optimus will come with two weapons: his battle ax and his iconic blaster.

There are not a whole lot of dynamic poses in those photos. It makes me wonder just how articulated the model really is. He doesn’t appear to come with a stand, and I haven’t spotted any plugs on the model that would allow you to plug him into one.
I tried to find more information on this kit since the description at BBTS kinda sucked. The official page for Prime at Yolopark was no better. I did spot a video going over the completed model, but it’s not in English. Check it out below:

I could see plopping a couple hundred down for this model, but I need a lot of questions answered first; otherwise, there are other avenues I could go down if I really wanted a Bumblebee Prime.

Two Production Teams From Adult Swim Unionize with The Animation Guild

0

The production workers behind Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites have recently filed to become members of The Animation Guild (TAG), joining together to bargain for their first union contract. Production workers involved in this filing include production managers, production supervisors, design assistants, casting assistants, storyboard coordinators and office production coordinators and assistants.

Explaining the reason behind the filing, TAG said, “This move follows a request by a super majority of the workers last week to be voluntarily recognized. Attorneys representing both production companies responded to this request by contacting TAG and stating that the productions’ parent studios, Adult Swim and 20th Century Fox, were not willing to voluntarily recognize the entire unit as was proposed by The Animation Guild.”

Because of this unwillingness, the guild then filed a petition for a union election.

The Animation Guild provided a statement by production manager on Solar Opposites Kallan Zimmerman. “Production workers are the heart of the animation industry and have been under-appreciated and under-compensated for far too long. It’s time for us to have a seat at the table alongside our artist colleagues.”

“I voted yes to unionize with TAG because I believe in representation and protection of production workers. We need real benefits and without unionizing, our needs will never be recognized and addressed,” assistant production manager on Rick & Morty Jennifer Vogan said.

Design coordinator on Solar Opposites Dana Bell added, “I’m excited to unite with my coworkers in production who work so hard in these shows, to join forces with the artists at TAG, and to work towards getting the recognition and the benefits that we deserve.”

You can find both shows to watch on Hulu.

Universal Monsters Mummy Mikey Has A Meme Face!

One more Turtle to go! Following the Universal Monsterfication of Leonardo and Raphael, Michaelangelo has joined his brothers to become a classic movie villain. Lots of new photos of the upcoming Universal Monsters-inspired figure were posted today on NECA’s website.
Mikey is looking a bit dusty. The once partying turtle is now a withering mess wrapped in bandages, and he somehow manages to pull off a Boris Karloff’s grimace. This Turtle is based on a classic ’30s Universal Monster movie like the last two figures. This time, if it wasn’t already obvious, the theme is Karl Freund’s 1932 version of The Mummy.
Mummy Mikey comes with six interchangeable hands, a cobra, two sets of ankh-chucks, some loose bandages, and a swappable head that looks very much like the disintegrating remains of some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie props.

It’s Turtally Terror-tastic! NECA is thrilled to announce a new addition to its Universal Monsters x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure collection. The line pays tribute to the world’s most famous turtles and Universal’s icons of horror. Michelangelo as The Mummy reimagines the Turtle as The Mummy, awakened from his eternal slumber by an undying love… of pizza! Don’t be late with his pie or you may run afoul of The Mummy’s Curse! Includes two ankh nunchuks, interchangeable heads and hands, bendable cobra, and extra bandage drapes. Comes in collector-friendly window box packaging with opening flap featuring a custom illustration.

All we have left out of the four main Turtles is Donnie. Which creature could he be? If logic is what we’re going by, Don would probably turn out to be Dracula. However, since NECA used Leo as Ygor, the final character could be anyone from the classic era of Universal creature features.
Which movie monster do you think Donatello will be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

‘The Rising of the Shield Hero’ Reaches New Milestone With 11 Million Manga and Light Novel Copes Sold

0

Ahead of the long-awaited season two of the hit isekai anime ‘The Rising of the Shield Hero,’ fans got some celebratory news in regards to the light novels and manga by Aneko Yusagi. With the release of the twentieth volume of the light novels, it has been confirmed that the series has sold a total of 11 million copies.
“The latest 20th volume of the manga adaptation of Aneko Yusagi’s The Rising of the Shield Hero fantasy novel series, illustrated by Aiya Kyu, is released in Japan today on February 22, and the publisher KADOKAWA confirmed that the series including both of the novel and the manga has printed 11 million copies in total so far,” Crunchyroll said on their website. “The fantasy novel was first posted on the user-generated novel publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narous from 2012 to 2015. Meanwhile, KADOKAWA’s light novel imprint MF Books started publishing its print edition in 2013 and has released 22 volumes. Its manga adaptation by Aiya Kyu has been serialized in the publisher’s Monthly Comic Flapper since 2014.”
The dark isekai was a surprise hit as critics initially gave it poor reviews. Despite the backlash, protagonist Naofumi Iwatani, his demi-human Raphtalia, and the morphing bird-like monster Filo proved popular with audiences. Season one of the anime was produced by the Japanese animation company Kinema Citrus with DR Movie taking over season two, set be released in April 2022.
A poster celebrating the 20th volume was placed in the Tokyo Metro Shinjuku Station’s Metro Promenade.

Wikipedia describes the synopsis as follows,
“Naofumi Iwatani, an easygoing Japanese youth, was summoned into a parallel world along with three other young men from parallel universes to become the world’s Cardinal Heroes and fight inter-dimensional hordes of monsters called Waves. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the other heroes received a sword, a spear, and a bow, weapons meant for attack. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse after his single companion, revealed to be the kingdom’s Princess, betrays him, steals all his belongings, and leaves him devoid of all assistance and supplies after she falsely accuses him of sexually assaulting her.
Mocked by the nobility and shunned by everyone from his fellow Heroes to peasants, a now cynical Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet, until he buys from a slave trader a young tanuki demi-human girl named Raphtalia and an egg that hatches into a bird-like monster whom he names “Filo”, both quickly growing into adulthood and becoming powerful warriors under his care. As they little by little gain the trust and gratitude of the people with their heroic actions, Naofumi and his companions work together to carry out their mission as saviors as they unravel the mystery of the Waves and the reason why they are a threat not only to their world, but to other worlds as well.”
‘The Rising of the Shield Hero’ spun off a new series titled ‘The Reprise of the Shield Hero,’ a comedic tale written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Minami Seira.

ThreeZero Goes Ultra Detailed With ‘The Last Knight’ Optimus Prime Figure

If there’s one thing, and probably one thing only, to like about Transformers: The Last Knight, it is Optimus Prime’s robot design. The iconic Autobot looked less like a pile of moving trash and more like a sentient being in this film. And that’s where the film’s positives end.
Today, we saw on Hasbro Pulse that this excellent looking rendition of Prime is now a highly detailed action figure from ThreeZero. This version of Prime is all hand-to-hand. The leader of the Autobots doesn’t come with any sort of blaster, only a shield, sword, and wrist blade. Optimus stands at 11.2″ tall and has 73 points of articulation. The figure will ship out on 12/01/2022 and will run you $239.
ThreeZero is no stranger to the Transformers franchise. Previously, we covered the toy maker’s G1 Bumblebee and Optimus Prime. However, this DLX Optimus Prime may be the company’s most detailed Transformer yet. Whatever your thoughts on the film, you’d have to admit that Prime looks impressive here.

DLX Collectible Figures present intricate Transformers designs in a smaller scale with high-fidelity production value. With its unique die-cast metal frame design, DLX not only provides an advanced range of articulation, but also greatly enhances the weight and durability. Together with the detailed and weathered paint application of threezero, a remarkable resemblance is achieved in matching the characters as seen in the original media.

Prime comes with the following accessories and features:

  • One (1) interchangeable Battle Mask
  • One (1) Blaster Shield
  • One (1) Detachable Wrist Balde
  • One (1) Cybertronian Sword

The Eldritch-Empowered Private Eye, Atticus Doom, Joins The One:12 Collective

Mezco’s Rumble Society keeps growing with the latest addition to the One:12 Collective: Atticus Doom. This engaging fellow is a private eye who specializes in the occult and looks to more than dabble with the powers of Cthulhu.
This 1:12 scale figure may be one of the most robust in the line with 19 different accessories and “FX” parts. He looks like something out of a Hellboy comic. Atticus is priced at $95 and will ship out sometime between February and March of this year. You can join the waiting list now for the character by clicking here.

An occult private eye infused with eldritch powers, Atticus Doom is Rumble Society’s supreme sorcerer. Being a dedicated disciple of the unknown, he is eternally tethered to the Necroverse by his supernatural left hand.

His power is immense. His knowledge is vast. His agendas are questionable.

Atticus Doom comes with the following parts and accessories:

  • One:12 Collective body with over 30 points of articulation
  • Two (2) head portraits
  • Hand painted authentic detailing
  • Approximately 16cm tall
  • Six (6) interchangeable hands
    • One (1) pair of fists (L & R)
    • One (1) pair of posing hands (L & R)
    • One (1) pair of holding hand (L & R)

  • One (1) Grimoires posing post
  • One (1) Sufi turban
  • Two (2) portal FX

  • One (1) spell/portal posing post
  • Two (2) eye flame FX
  • One (1) One:12 Collective display base with logo
  • One (1) One:12 Collective adjustable display post

While I’m not invested in the Rumble Society lore, Atticus makes for such a unique-looking figure in the Collective that I may pick him up strictly as a display piece.

LEGO To Release A Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck Set

0

LEGO has announced that it will be diving into the world of Horizon Forbidden West to recreate the mechanical striding Tallneck. This new set aimed at adult collectors includes an Aloy mini-fig and a Watcher mech created out of bricks.
Based on the recently released Playstation title, the Tallneck will stand at 13.5″ tall when constructed. The base will measure 9″ by 6.5″. The entire model comprises 1,222 bricks and is meant for ages 18+.
LEGO isn’t currently taking pre-orders, but if you check back on May 1st, you should be able to pick it up there. The Tallneck is priced at $79.99.

Build the ultimate LEGO® brick model (76989) of the most iconic Horizon machine in the Forbidden West: the Tallneck. Use clever building techniques to capture authentic details of this Communications Class machine, from its smooth, disc-shaped head to its long, slim legs. Display the Tallneck on a stand with brick-built Horizon landscape details, including a birch tree and rusty stoplight. A new-for-May-2022 Aloy minifigure with weapons, plus a Watcher figure with a choice of blue, yellow, or red eyes, complete a striking centerpiece.

Although this set is based on the sequel, Aloy’s mini-fig lacks a headdress. In the game, which I’ve been playing since launch, there are several different pieces of headwear that the Champion of Meridian picks up along her travels to the West. So maybe there are a few alternatives in the box somewhere. LEGO is known to throw in little things like that on occasion.
And here’s a little preview of the game this LEGO set is based on!
Horizon Forbidden West is now available for both the PS4 and PS5. The game offers more of the same gameplay we saw in Zero Dawn, but it has been refined. The character models are well detailed, but some of the faces look like they fell out of Walt Disney’s rejected audio-animatronics storage bin.
Encounters with mechanical creatures feel more fluid now, but the camera will sometimes lead you to cheap deaths if you’re fighting too close to a large piece of geometry like a wall, cliffside, or man-made structure. On the other hand, exploration pays off with many crafting options, including weapon improvements, potions, meals, and armor upgrades. Unfortunately, I kept forgetting about the main story quest and kept wandering off to find critters to kill so I could craft a new quiver or ammo bag.
Honestly, even though I’ve only been playing since Friday, I’ve forgotten most of what the story is about or who I’ve met along the way. Basically, Aloy must go West to find a copy of an AI that will restart the terraforming project and stop a new plague that is forming. That’s the long and short of it so far. I skipped so many drawn-out conversations and just played for the fun of it. By the time I reach whatever the main baddy is, I’ll just be reenacting that Thanos VS Wanda meme.
