Original Tomb Raider Trilogy Is Getting Remastered for Consoles

Lara Croft is a gaming icon from the original PlayStation era that still resonates with many gamers to this day. The first three Tomb Raider games were released on the PS1 back in 1996 to 1999. This trilogy of games starring Lara Croft changed the way we looked at action-adventure games during that era, which was the basis of inspiration for series like Uncharted which was released years later. Many fans have wanted to see Lara Croft return to her roots for a long time, especially after the reboot of the Tomb Raider series that was developed by Crystal Dynamics. It looks like that may be happening but for more than just PlayStation consoles.

During the Nintendo Direct presentation on September 14th, a remaster for the original three Tomb Raider games was revealed. Tomb Raider Trilogy Remastered will be coming out for the Nintendo Switch on February 14th, 2024. Luckily for fans of the original PlayStation versions, the remastered trilogy will also be coming out for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series consoles, and PC. So everyone can experience the adventures of Lara Croft, no matter what platform you play on.

All three games will also have the expansions and secret levels from the original versions. Development of the trilogy is being developed by Aspyr with Crystal Dynamics and will feature revamped visuals to give a fresh look to these classics. But that’s not all. Players will be able to switch between the remastered visuals or the original graphical style, which should please many hardcore Tomb Raider fans.

The official PlayStation blog posted a breakdown of everything included with Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, with an homage to the legacy of the series on PlayStation consoles. “The relationship between the two is as legendary as Lara’s expeditions, filled with adventure, mystery, and discovery. Lara Croft has left an unforgettable legacy on PlayStation consoles, and her journey is far from over… Not only will the original three games be remastered, but players will be able to experience the corresponding expansions for each entry for the first time on consoles…”

As far as any other tweaks or changes to the game, nothing seems to be changing. The game’s original tank controls and grid-based platforming appear to be as they were, despite the visual upgrade. Whether the remastered trilogy will also include additional bonus material or extras is unknown.
