GKids expanded their library with the announcement that they have acquired the rights to release several works of Japanese ‘Your Name’ director and animator Makoto Shinkai. GKids had previously released Shinkai’s hit film ‘Weathering With You’ in the United States and Canada, also handling the English voice cast.
The titles GKids plans to release include alternate history flick ‘The Place Promised in Our Early Days,’ the romantic drama ‘5 Centimeters per Second,’ the action-adventure ‘Children Who Chase Lost Voices,’ and the science fiction OVA ‘Voices of a Distant Star.’ There is no specific release date for the home video, though they are promised “later this year” and will include an English dubbed version of each title.
GKIDS’ President David Jesteadt said in a statement, “We are thrilled to represent these vital early films from Makoto Shinkai.” He continued, “They display the astounding visuals and emotional stories of longing and human connection that have made him one of the most exciting and important directors in animation today, and we look forward to reintroducing them to fans old and new.”
