Will manga ever outsell monthly comics here in the U.S.? In Japan, a manga can sell over 100K copies per WEEK in a country a fraction of the size of America. In the States, they throw you a ticker tape parade if your comic manages to break 100K copies in a MONTH. What’s disconnect? Why isn’t the general U.S. public all that interested in reading comics now? Why do the Japanese still move tons of manga when they have phones and movies and video games as well?
In the first half of the video, we talk about the July 2019 U.S. comic book sales charts. Later (around 16:00) we switch to the Japanese manga market to show just how weak American comic book sales really are.
