Near the end of the San Diego Comic-Con, there was a panel discussing the latest announcements on animated shows and specials coming to HBO Max. One of them was the reboot show called Tiny Toons Looniversity. Aside from having different voice actors replacing the original ones from the 90s series, one major change was having the two leads be siblings. This is a bit of a questionable decision given what the Tiny Toon Adventures series established between the two characters.
In every episode there was a running gag where every time Babs Bunny and Buster Bunny would introduce themselves, they would follow it up by saying “no relation”. Same last name, not related. There was flirting, dating, and kissing. The kind of things unrelated high schoolers tend to do.
During the SDCC panel, a rep from WB mentioned “Buster’s twin sister Babs”. Fans on twitter wanted to be sure if this was a literal purposeful statement or not. Staff artist Len Kiraly Lee confirmed this was definitely what the rep said.
He also responded to another question concerning whether this was a continuation or a reboot:
Len Kiraly Lee also shared artwork he did for the show (besides the top picture above):
As you can imagine, fans of the 90s series are not thrilled with this drastic change. Many are noting that it is a bit confusing considering what happened in the Tiny Toon Adventures.
Twitter user @WakkoKing speculated who was possibly behind this change:
The Tiny Toon Adventures creator Tom Ruegger has no part in the creation of this reboot series. Ruegger responded to a post on Facebook his own thoughts on this change in a simple and direct response as saying “Ummm…ew?”

Tiny Toon Adventures aired between 1990-1995, amassing an impressive 98 episodes. Because of how successful it was, the show paved way for the creation of shows such as Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Tiny Toon Adventures is about the younger descendants of the Looney Tunes characters in their high school years. Looniversity is set during college years. Two seasons have been ordered for Looniversity to air on HBO Max.
Steven Spielberg returns as producer and he is apparently very excited about this series:
There was a Change.org petition made to call for keeping Babs and Buster not related. Click here to view the petition: Keep Babs and Busters Non-related
Is this another “universe”? How will they explain away the drastic change?
