Shippers are rewriting Tolkien. Hobbits Frodo and Sam were coded as gay, according to a recent Polygon article. This despite Tolkien marrying off Sam to Rosie at the end of LOTR and being a married Catholic man himself. Most likely this is all part of the push for “diversity and inclusion” in Lord of the Rings, and whether or not Tolkien himself intended it doesn’t matter anymore…
