Square Enix just went full AI on manga text — the Final Fantasy crew teamed with Tokyo startup Mantra to roll out their new Mantra Engine that scans raw pages, reads bubbles, and auto-slaps in the perfect font, size, style, and placement while saving editors a ridiculous 3,000 hours of mind-numbing manual typesetting every single year. Beta test on 1,500+ pages already crushed it with 73% editor approval so now it’s phasing in across the company — yeah after years of watching every other industry get eaten by robots the manga giant finally admitted the boring grunt work is ripe for the machine while still pretending humans will “review and adjust” like that’s not the first step toward full replacement.
