Playmates Toys is on a roll with their TMNT VS series. Over the past year, we’ve seen the mutant brothers face off against Cobra Kai and the Power Rangers. Now, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will spare with Capcom’s iconic Street Fighter characters.
We learned from Figures.com that the first images from the new Versus series had been released. These initial images show Ryu challenging Leonard and Michelangelo facing off against Chun-Li. In total, there are plans for four sets, one for each Turtle. Playmates Toys intends to pair Raphael with Guile and Ken with Donatello.
The figures are on the same scale as the previous two packs. Each character is 6″ tall. Based on the images below, only the Turtles appear to have accessories. Don’t expect any effects parts like a Hadouken or sonic boom. These sets are due to show up on store shelves this Fall, and the price point will probably be around $50 each.
The paint job used for the Turtles oddly contrasts the Street Fighter characters. Leo and Mikey look like a cross between the original Mirage Comics and the ’87 cartoon with a heavy emphasis on shading. Meanwhile, Chun-Li and Ryu are basic, with no shading or washes applied.
The Leaders Face-Off:
- Ryu VS Leonardo
Authority VS Exuberance:
- Chun-LI VS Michelangelo
Strength VS Strength:
- Guile VS Raphael
Restraint VS Intellect:
- Ken VS Donatello
It’s a concept that I’m surprised has been used before between the two franchises. So while the Marvel VS Capcom series is most likely dead in the water, a TMNT VS Street Fighter game could renew interest in the classic crossover fighting game genre.
