Broadcasting TV channel All Sports Television Network has picked up the Champions Indoor Football league pro-team Wichita Force to “introduce” the sports franchise to their viewers.
All Sports President Roger Neal Smith expressed excitement for the deal.
“We are excited about bringing arena football to our viewers,” he said according to EIN Presswire. “Arena football is a very fast-paced game that is still largely unknown by football fans. We are looking forward to the opportunity to provide die-hard football fans the opportunity to watch their favorite sport during the spring.”
Wichita Force managing partner Jeff Martin echoed those statements saying, “After a challenging year, we can’t wait to have our players back on the field for the best season yet.”
He continued, “We always want to partner with the best, so we are thrilled to team up with All Sports Television Network to bring our games to fans everywhere.”
This comes on the heels of the announcement from the Champions Indoor Football that Todd Walkenhorst would be replacing Ricky Bertz as league commissioner.
“This has been a transition that we have discussed for a while,” Walkenhorst said in a press release. “I am grateful to the league and the owners who have worked with me to make this timing work for everybody involved. I know that Ricky was ready to put more time into the Omaha franchise, and this is a year that really needed his extra focus. It is obviously a challenging time for all businesses and people. I am looking forward to working with our teams, players, and fans to move forward through this season and beyond.”
The Champions Indoor Football is a professional arena football league that was formed after the merger of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League and Lone Star Football League.
The league canceled their 2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but that the 2021 season would proceed with six teams, including the reactivated team Dodge City Law.

Italy Officially Ends Film Censorship Practices
In a symbolic gesture, the government of Italy is ending its censorship legislation that has been in place since 1914. Though the practice has largely ended, the laws were still set in place allowing the Italian government to censor a film or request cuts from a filmmaker based on moral reasons.
“Film censorship has been abolished,” said Culture Minister Dario Franceschini according to First Post. “And the system of controls and interventions that still allow the state to intervene in the freedom of artists has been definitively ended.”
Variety reports that the 1914 censorship laws prevented such films as Bernardo Bertolucci’s Last Tango In Paris in 1972 and Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Salò Or The 120 Days of Sodom in 1975 were banned from premiering in the country.
It’s an epochal change that the industry was strongly pushing for and will usher in self-regulation,” said the head of Italy’s distributors Luigi Lonigro.
Film director Pupi Avati, whose drama ‘Bordello’ was censored under the original laws, praised the move.
“It’s a form of self-regulation. We are mature enough,” he said. “It makes films more seductive, generating public interest, especially those with an erotic theme.”
The new rules will allow the filmmakers to classify their own movies based on the age of the audience children aged under six; over-14s (or aged 12+ if accompanied by parent); and over-18s (or 16+ accompanied by adult). A Film Classification Commission of 49 members will be led by a government-appointed president and will determine whether the age classification is sufficient for general audiences.
The Guardian reports that the last film to face censors was 1998’s ‘Toto Who Lived Twice,’ based on religious and moral objections.
A survey done by Cinecensura claims that over 10,000 films were affected by Italy’s film censorship practices. At least 274 Italian features, 130 American films, and 321 movies from other countries have been banned in Italy since 1944.
FIRST LOOK: The Powerpuff Girls DON’T Work Well in Live-Action.
In case you missed the memo, there’s a live-action Powerpuff Girls series coming to the CW. And yes, leaked set photos and video seem to indicate that the Powerpuff Girls work in live-action just about as well as you would have expected.
Per TMZ…
Granted, it’s principal photography and there’s only so much you can do with the original designs on grown women, buuuuuut yeah.
Twitter isn’t terribly impressed, either.
It was announced that the beloved Powerpuff Girls Cartoon Network series would get the “Riverdale treatment” by the CW earlier in the year courtesy of Diablo Cody, writer of Juno.
The internet reacted. Pretty negatively, we might add.
The ill-conceived pilot episode was greenlit nonetheless, with Disney Channel star Dove Cameron playing Bubbles, Chloe Bennet as Blossom and Yana Perrault as Buttercup.
Nicholas Podany has been cast as their arch nemesis Mojo Jojo.
So an attractive young male is cast in a show rumored to take a cue from Riverdale. What can possibly go wrong?
Scrubs star Donald Faison has also been cast as Professor Utonium, for what is sure to be a very different take on the character than was was seen in the cartoon.

Nobody asked for this show. Nobody particularly seems to want this show. And the photos look like budget cut cosplay.
But hey, maybe it’ll surprise us.
[Source: TMZ]Mystery Science Theater 3000 Launches Another Kickstarter
MST3K is back on Kickstarter asking for money for another season. The campaign for Make More MST3K launched a Kickstarter today for another season and beyond.
The new Kickstarter campaign launched and already has over $1.1 million of it’s $2 million goal (as of this article.)
Basically the proved themselves and got Netflix to pick up two seasons, but now they’ve passed on a 3rd season:
“Sometime in late 2019, during our third live tour, we got word: even though Netflix liked how our new episodes came out, they wouldn’t be renewing us for a third new season.”
With this new campaign they are hoping to:
1. MAKE MORE MST3K episodes with a new, sustainable model, that lets you decide how long we should keep going, and lets us bring new episodes directly to you, without depending on a network to distribute or keep renewing us for new seasons.
2. BUILD “THE GIZMOPLEX”, our own virtual online theater, where we can host frequent live screenings, premieres, and community events – and you can host MST3K watch parties with friends whenever you want. More on that in a minute.
For those unfamiliar with the show Mystery Science Theater 3000, or MST3K, is a comedy show created by Joel Hodgson, started out on a Minneapolis TV channel in 1988 before moving to the Comedy Channel (Comedy Central) for several seasons. The show’s gimmick is that they riff on old movies.
I grew up watching this show with my mom and siblings and we’ve been fans for years (still miss Joel as the host.)
Fast forward to 2015 and there was a successful Kickstarter campaign to bring the show back, with over $5.7 million on the crowd funding platform.
The new version has Jonah Ray, Felicia Day and Patton Oswald.
Truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of the new seasons, but I know a lot of you might be. I definitely want to see it succeed and more shows able to do their own thing instead of being at the mercy of Hollywood.

Helen Mirren To Star In The Biopic ‘Golda,’ About Israel’s First And Only Female Prime Minister
Israeli director Guy Nattiv will direct ‘Golda,’ a biographical film about Golda Meir, Israel’s first female Prime Minister. Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren (Hobbs & Shaw) has been cast as Meir.
“As someone who was born during the Yom Kippur War, I am honored to tell this fascinating story about the first and only woman to ever lead Israel,” Nattiv told Deadline. “Nicholas Martin’s brilliant script dives into Golda’s final chapter as the country faces a deadly surprise attack during the holiest day of the year, a core of delusional generals undermining Golda’s judgment, all the while undergoing secret treatments for her illness. I could not be more excited to work with the legendary Miss Mirren to bring this epic, emotional and complex story to life.”
Producer Michael Kuhn will partner with screenwriter Nicholas Martin and hope to start production as soon as October. The two previously worked together for a biopic of Florence Foster Jenkins, which won a BAFTA award for Best Makeup and Hair and a Critics’ Choice Awards for actress Meryl Streep in the Best Actress in a Comedy category.
This will be the second biopic of Meir announced in 2021, with Barbra Streisand executive producing ‘Lioness’ a television miniseries starring Shira Haas as the Middle Eastern politician. According to Deadline, this version will be based on the non-fiction book of the same-name book by Francine Klagsbrun. It will be directed by Emmy winner Mimi Leder (On the Basis of Sex). The series has yet to be picked up by a television channel.
Golda Meir was Israel’s fourth Prime Minister, serving from 1969 to 1974. Her tenure included such historical events as the Munich massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics, a heated dispute with Austria over transitioning Russian Jews to Israel, and the Yom Kippur War. She resigned in 1974 and would write her autobiography “My Life” in 1975 before passing away in 1978.
Did ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Save The Cinemas? Some In The Media Are Speculating That It Did.
No one can deny that the pandemic lockdowns have had an adverse effect on many aspects of society including movie theaters. The shutdown has forced many cinema companies to make tough decisions, but as lockdown measures loosen state-by-state, there is a renewed consumer interest in seeing movies on the big screen.
The question is, what movie would draw audiences back to cinemas? Some in the media have given the answer as the kaiju monster film ‘Godzilla vs. Kong.’ Despite being streamed for free to HBO Max customers, many sought to see the MonsterVerse sequel at the cinema.
“HBO Max subscribers had the option to stream ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ in the comfort of their homes during Easter and Passover weekend, but plenty of moviegoers opted to see it in theaters,” writes CNN Business. “That’s great news for the publicly traded owners of big multiplexes. Warner Bros., the studio that released the film, said Sunday that “Godzilla vs. Kong” has raked in nearly $50 million at the US box office since its release last Wednesday, sending shares of AMC (AMC) — a stock that’s incredibly popular with traders on Reddit — soaring more than 15%.”
“Some cities are now letting theaters reopen, but at a limited capacity to start,” CNN adds. “Some moviegoers are clearly craving the big-screen experience, and that will be a boost for the likes of AMC.”
James Hanton from the British outlet The Guardian agrees. After citing the tepid response to Christopher Nolan’s time-bending spy thriller ‘Tenet,’ he notes how the monster film has become a roaring success.
“Godzilla vs. Kong speaks volumes about what it will take to keep the movies alive,” Hanton says. “Something that makes you forget about the outside world, rather than have you longing to go back to it. Cinema is in too perilous a place right now to be stuck up on a high horse. If it takes brainless kaiju carnage to reignite love for the big screen, then we are not really in a position to complain.”
Aric Jenkins of The Ringer also agrees.
“The box office success first and foremost suggests that consumers are increasingly comfortable sitting in movie theaters after a year of social distancing,” he writes. “It also, more subtly, is a bit of a middle finger—albeit a very early and tentatively raised one—to the naysayers who said streaming would usurp theatergoing as the dominant method of movie consumption when Warner announced its simultaneous release strategy in December.”
The timing of this cannot be understated. With California Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement that the state could possibly open fully by mid-June, the box office performance of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ might be the key to getting consumers back in the movie theater.
Former Dr. Who Christopher Eccleston On Show Canon: “I Just Ignore It.”
Dr. Who alumni Christopher Eccleston, known by fans as the Ninth Doctor, shared his candid thoughts about the science fiction show and the canon that was created around it.
After concluding his reprisal as the Doctor for a series of audio dramas, he spoke to Den of Geek about the rearrangement of the canon.
“I just ignore it,” Ecceslton explained. “And he does. We’ve just recorded an episode for instance where the Brigadier is saying to him, ‘You remember, you came to my retirement party and then we ended up on Gallifrey,’ and he said, ‘No, I don’t remember.’ An essential quality of him is he’s entirely in the moment… He can become Peter Capaldi, he can become Jodie Whittaker, he can become Jon Pertwee.”
He then poked fun at the United Kingdom’s current prime.
“Hopefully, he can’t become Boris Johnson,” he joked. “I don’t refer to any of that [canon]. My Doctor is very much in the moment.”
“I’m not a slave to the canon,” Ecceslton added. “I think if the show wants to survive going forward, it needs to explode the canon. That rigid adherence to, ‘There can only be this number of incarnations,’ et cetera, it’s nonsense. It’s nonsense. The imagination is limitless.”
He did not stop there. He also spoke about the “feminization of Doctor Who.”
“I think it’s time for the Doctor to meet the Cyberwomen in the 21st century. We’ve had enough Cybermen,” Eccleston opined. “I would very much like the Doctor to meet Emily Davison who threw herself in front of the Derby winner and was one of the forerunners of the feminist movement and a martyr for it. I think that’d be extraordinary for him to mix with Emily Davidson and Pankhurst and explore that. As I’ve said earlier, he’s very drawn to the feminine. And I think that it’s great that we now have a female Doctor, and I think we should take that further in the way that we look at history and look at it through a female lens. I think the [Ninth] Doctor would respond very well to that.”
Succeeding Paul McGann in the role, Eccleston’s tenure as the Doctor saw its 2005 BBC revival after a decades-long hiatus. Though little was known about his origins, it was discovered that he was a regeneration of the War Doctor played by John Hurt.

Peeps Candy Pieces Are Starring In Their Own Animated Movie
The popular marshmallow candy treats known only as Peeps will get a starring role in their own animated film. Yes, you read that correctly.
Deadline reports that the movie company Wonder Street Entertainment has attained the rights to produce both film and television rights to the gooey treats. The candy is produced by Just Born Inc, a company based in Pennsylvania. It is estimated that over two billion pieces are made each year.
‘The Mauritanian’ producers Christine and Mark Holder will be producing the film along with David Goldblum, who is also penning the script.
“… the feature billed as being in the spirit of Trolls-meets-Smurfs,” notes Deadline. “It will follow a ragtag group of Peeps characters who set out on a cross-country journey in order to attend Peepsfest, an annual brand celebration in Pennsylvania.”
A spokesperson for Just Born expressed their enthusiasm for the project.
“Peeps Chicks and Bunnies have been ingrained in American pop culture for nearly seven decades due to their instantly recognizable shapes and fan-favorite marshmallow taste, making them the perfect characters to bring to life on the big screen,” they said. “We hope the new Peeps film spreads sweetness to families across the country and provides inspiration for fans to express their ‘Peepsonality’ in new ways.”
This is not the first time that a Peeps animated has tried to get off the ground. Back in 2014, ‘Without Charlie’ director Adam Rifkin had tried to get an animated version of the movie off the ground.
“I’ve seen people recreate ‘Scarface’ with Peeps, Roman Gladiators with Peeps, The Wild West with peeps. Anything you can think of someone has done it with Peeps,” Rifkin told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “We feel that way about this. Yes, they are candies. They were invented to be eaten at Easter time, but guess what, these dioramas have proven that these little candied characters have captured people’s imaginations.”
Rifkin has not been announced as a part of the new version.
