‘Natsume’s Book of Friends’ Season 2 English Dub Cast Revealed

0

‘Natsume’s Book of Friends’ is a paranormal comedy manga created by Yuki Midorikawa and published by the Tokyo-based publishing company Hakusensha since 2003. Since season two, the Japanese animation studio Shuka produced an animated series until its conclusion in 2017. Crunchyroll streamed the first season, done by Brain Base, and has now picked up the second season streaming and for an English dub.

They revealed the cast on their website:

  • Adam Gibbs (Hachiman in My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU) as Takashi Natsume
  • Christopher Wehkamp (Aizawa in My Hero Academia) as Madara
  • Mike Haimoto (Banri in Golden Time) as Atsushi
  • Matthew Elkins as Satoru
  • Paige Guillory as Young Takashi
  • Jennifer AuBuchon (Touko in My Senpai is Annoying) as Toko
  • Alexis Tipton (Kaguya in Kaguya-sama: Love is War) as Reiko Natsume

Jad Saxton is returning as ADR director for this season as well.

You can watch the trailer below:

Wikipedia describes the synopsis as follows,

“For as long as he can remember, Takashi Natsume has had the ability to see spirits, inheriting the power from his grandmother Reiko Natsume. This ability resulted in his having a lonely childhood because children his age considered him strange. He had also been passed from one relative to another. Upon her death, Reiko bequeathed to her grandson her Book of Friends, a book containing the names of spirits she had bullied into servitude.

The Book of Friends is considered a highly prized item in the spirit world, and spirits – both good and malicious – haunt Takashi constantly because of it. Takashi spends his time dissolving the contracts that Reiko created and releasing the various spirits that come to him for help. Malicious spirits on the other hand try to kill him to obtain possession of the book, which is where Madara (called Nyanko-sensei by Natsume) comes in. Madara serves as Natsume’s bodyguard and spiritual advisor of sorts, even though ostensibly he is motivated by his own desire to possess the Book of Friends. He later begins to become more attached to Takashi, with the latter forming a similar bond with Madara.”

NIS America originally held the license to release it in North America before it was picked up by Crunchyroll.

Sale runs now through MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 11:00am Pacific Standard Time Enter coupon code 150FREESHIP in cart to receive discount. Subtotal must be $150 or higher excluding sales tax. *Free shipping only applies to Continental US shipping addresses Only. Excludes Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, & Territories.

I can attest to their quality if you’re on the fence about New Wave’s replica cabinets. I own the crowdfunded Dragon’s Lair machine and the more commercially available Centipede cabinet. Both are amazing in both detail and functionality. The trackball for Centipede worked surprisingly well, considering its small size. The only complaints I’ve had concerning firmware and some screen issues. Centipede required a special cable from New Wave Toys to update the firmware to fix a power issue. This took a while and should have been figured out before the final product was sent to market.

The screen issue didn’t involve the LED display but the protective screen. The cabinets, like their full-size counterparts, are made primarily from wood. So, there’s more chance of debris finding its way into areas it shouldn’t. My Dragon’s Lair cabinet had a small piece of black painted wood stuck just under the plastic screen. To get it out would require taking apart a large portion of the machine, and I don’t want to risk it, considering Dragon’s Lair may never be re-released by New Wave Toys.

Will you pick up any of New Wave’s items this holiday season? Let us know below.

‘Men In Black’ Neuralyzer Replicas Are Coming Back!

The Neuralyzers had been previously available via Master Replicas and SD Studios in the 2000s. These versions had lights, sounds, and a bright flash, similar to what you’d find on a camera. Unfortunately, the replicas have long since been out of production and fetch over $1k on eBay. Eventually, Factory Entertainment released its version, but they were limited to only 1,500 pieces. That was until today.

FE will release the MIB and MIIB style Neuralyzers by the end of next year. Regardless of your choice, they’re both priced at $599.99. Or you can pre-order both as a set for $1,199.98. Personally, I prefer the ones seen in the first film. The red light looked better on this shiny prop, and it also comes with an LED-lit year display that can be set to whatever you like.

Regardless of which one you pick, both have several screen-accurate features and a wooden display box with individually numbered plaques:

MIB Neuralyzer:

  • Spring-loaded pop-up action.
  • LED-lit year display, which can be manually adjusted to display any year.
  • Red standby light.
  • Ultra-bright LED flash.
  • Movie accurate sound effects.
  • Screen accurate time setting dials.

MIIB Neuralyzer:

  • Spring-loaded pop-up action.
  • Blue standby light.
  • Ultra-bright LED flash.
  • Movie accurate sound effects.
  • Screen accurate time setting dials.

Sometimes, despite the best efforts by agents of a shadowy and semi-menacing government organization, people witness things they shouldn’t. Inter-dimensional rifts in space/time, tentacled hellbeasts from Ventrusian Nine and more! In those moments, it’s always a good idea to have a Neuralyzer on hand to wipe away those pesky memories!

I’d be interested to see side-by-side comparisons between all three companies’ replicas to see what, if any, variations there are. I used to collect Icons and Master Replicas lightsabers, and it amazed me the vast differences each studio had in their “screen accurate” hilts.

Tweeterhead’s Skeletor Maquette Is Amazing

0

Want the best looking Skeletor statue? Then get your hands on the Skeletor Legends maquette made by the artists at Tweeterhead. The 1:5 scale maquette is pricey but not as excessive as we’ve seen with similar collectibles over the past year. Skeletor will run you $654.99 at the Big Bad Toy Store and Sideshow Collectibles. However, that price includes multiple interchangeable heads and hands, so you can display the ruler of Snake Mountain the way you’d like. Tastefully, of course!

The expected release date is during the holiday season of 2023. The statue is made of polyresin and stands 25″ tall.

The maquette shares the same design choices Tweeterhead used for the 1:1 Skeletor Legends bust. This item can still be ordered via Sideshow Collectibles for $1,005. Better kidnap Prince Adam and get King Randor to offer up a tidy sum if you want to get this statue. Oof.

Tweeterhead also made a 1:5 Hordak maquette, too. It also features an updated look to the classic villain, including lots of blood-red accents to his armor, cape, and staff. Hordak is also slightly more affordable than Skeletor. He can be ordered now for $475 through Sideshow.

The polyresin Skeletor Maquette includes a number of swap-out features allowing fans to craft their perfect display of power. Choose between the classic portrait with a cackling expression or a modern portrait with a grimacing expression. Skeletor also features swap-out left hands — one in a clawed gesture and one holding the Power Sword. When holding the Power Sword, the figure measures 16.5″ wide.

The maquette measures 25″ tall, 15.4″ wide, and 11.7″ deep. It will come with the following:

  • 2 Head sculpts
    • Cackling expression
    • Grimacing expression
  • 2 Left hand parts
    • Clawed gesture
    • Power sword

Amazon Studios Announces ‘The Making of the Rings of Power’ With Their X-Ray Feature

The Amazon Studio adaption of English author J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth novel, ‘The Rings of Power,’ is going to give potential viewers a chance to take a look behind-the-scenes thanks to the “X-Ray” on their Prime Video app. Audience members can get a glimpse of how special effects, music, and other aspects of the series unfolded during production.

Amazon said on their website, “Fans of the global hit series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power can get an exclusive look behind the scenes of all eight episodes via Prime Video’s X-Ray feature, pulling back the curtain on the real-life creation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s magnificent realms like never before.”

“Prime Video’s record-breaking global hit series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has announced that “The Making of The Rings of Power”—a special look at previously unreleased behind-the-scenes content from Season One’s eight episodes—is now available exclusively on X-Ray, via a full-screen experience that can be launched anytime while watching the series,” they continued.

Showrunners, cast members, and several members of the production team will also guide viewers through the behind-the-scenes specials.

“‘The Making of The Rings of Power’ gives fans a special inside look at the creation of the unique realms that make up Middle-earth, including Númenor and Khazad-dûm, both shown on screen at the heights of their glory for the first time. These segments also reveal exciting details about the production design, set decoration, costumes, makeup, visual and special effects, stunts, sword fights, horseback riding, and so much more of the intricate preparation involved in creating this very special world,” they continued.

X-Ray has been a staple of the Prime Video app, allowing viewers to see names of celebrities acting in a film or giving information about the production team, such as the director, while watching their chosen film or show.

‘Gambling Apocalypse: Kaiji’ is a thriller manga created by Nobuyuki Fukumoto for the Tokyo-based publishing company Kodansha. Beginning in 1996, it has had several continuations and spin-offs. In 2007, the Japanese entertainment studio Nippon TV commissioned an anime that ran for twenty-six episodes under the title ‘Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor.’ Though appearing on various North American apps, HiDive has announced that they had acquired the rights and would produce a dub.

MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows,

“After one of his coworkers fails to repay a debt, apathetic bum Kaiji Itou is pressured by loan sharks to settle the large sum of cash. Since Kaiji has little money and no future prospects of his own, he is unable to return what his colleague borrowed. Faced with massive financial burdens, Kaiji is given an offer to board the illustrious Espoir—it is said that “one night aboard the ship, and all of your debts will be paid.”

What seems like a simple night of gambling quickly turns into a game of strategy and betrayal. With the losers of the tournament being subjected to a backbreaking life of indebted servitude, Kaiji must choose his actions—and allies—carefully. However, this is only the beginning of a series of gambles that will wager Kaiji’s life, testing the full extent of his wits and will to survive.”

The show was followed by a second anime ‘Kaiji: Against All Rules’ in 2011 also by Nippon TV.

Alpha 5 Joins Super7’s ‘Power Rangers’ ReAction Figures

Wave 4 of Super7’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ReAction figures is here. The series continues to focus on the early years of Saban’s retooled Super Sentai show by introducing the White Ranger, Alpha 5, a Dragon Shield-clad Black Ranger, Lord Zedd’s Putty, and the White Tigerzord. Each 3.75″ figure is priced at $20. The TigerZord, which is 6″ tall, is $24. The entire set can be ordered for $104.

Super7

Super7

Ay-yi-yi-yi! Alpha 5 is out of the Command Center! Something must be seriously wrong in Angel Grove!

Super7

Bad oysters can ruin anyone’s day, but when he falls victim to the Oysterizer’s acid attack, the Mighty Morphin Black Ranger needs the Dragon Shield to regenerate and vanquish the evil bi-valve menace!

Super7

Super7

Lord Zedd knew Rita Repulsa’s Putty Patrollers were pretty useless against the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, so he created the much stronger Z Putties in an attempt to get the upper hand.

Super7

When the White Tigerzord transforms into Warrior Mode, you know things are going to get serious! This Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ReAction Figure of the White Tigerzord in Warrior Mode is an impressive 6” tall, with metallic paint detail and the Golden Sword accessory.

The big mistake with this wave is not making Alpha 5’s light up. Even if an LED would be too expensive, at least give him some light piping. At least the fourth series rounds out the core Rangers and main villains. Does this mean Wave 5 will provide us with the Angel Grove kids in street clothes? Will Bulk and Skull finally join the lineup? When will Zordon show up? Will he be part of a playset? Who is buying these things anyway?

Really. Who? Whenever I check the stores to see what’s new, Super7 figures are usually fully packed on the pegs. Is the most extensive customer base buying them directly online rather than digging through the messy collectibles aisle at Target? Let us know your thoughts below.

Gandalf and Shadowfax Join Asmus Toys’ The Crown Series

0

Asmus Toys’ The Lord of the Rings Crown Series has added a new figure to its lineup. The company’s first figure in the series was an impressive 12″ tall version of Gandalf the Grey. While the Wandering Wizard looked great, he pales compared to the White Wizard and his equestrian companion. He is Gandalf the White, and he comes back to us now at the turn of the tide … to take our money. Gandalf is not alone in this task. With him is the lord of all horses, Shadowfax.

Sadly, Shadowfax is a solid polystone statue and cannot be posed. However, Gandalf more than makes up for it with his numerous accessories, 36 points of articulation, and finely tailored clothing. The duo is already sold out on Asmus Toys’ official website; however, some are still available from the Big Bad Toy Store. The Gandalf the White and Shadowfax set is priced at $380 and is expected to ship sometime between January and March of next year.

What do you think of the Gandalf and Shadowfax set? Should the King of Horses have been a poseable figure rather than a polystone statue? Let us know your thoughts below.

Numskull’s ‘Space Invaders’ 1/4 Scale Cabinets Are A Tad Pricy

Numskull has announced two new 1/4 scale classic arcade cabinets, and they’re on the pricy side. Coming next year are two of Taito’s greatest and most influential titles: Space Invaders & Space Invaders Part II. The mini cabinets almost perfectly replicate the original machines’ features, right down to the Pepper’s Ghost effect. It comes at a price, though. For each 17″ tall arcade cabinet, get ready to shell out $339.99.

The two machines are available for pre-order at the Big Bad Toy Store and should arrive around August 2023. Previously, the company had released near-perfect miniature replicas of Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and other NAMCO titles. I owned a couple of these and found them to be worth the cost at the time, around $200-$250. This newest price point is a bit much. The construction is solid, and the cabs make great display pieces. However, you can pick up a used or even new Arcade1UP machine for the same price.
