Anime Planet described the synopsis as follows,

“In Japan’s Warring States period, Lord Daigo Kagemitsu makes a pact with 12 demons, exchanging his unborn son for the prosperity of his lands. The child is born malformed and is set adrift in a river, while Kagemitsu’s lands thrive as promised. Years later, young thief Dororo encounters the mysterious “Hyakkimaru”, a boy whose arms are blades and whose visionless eyes seem able to see monsters.”

‘Dororo’ is based on a manga series created by Osamu Tezuka and was serialized by Weekly Shōnen Sunday and Bōken Ō from 1967 to 1969. It was published in North America by the Kodansha USA imprint Vertical.

The first anime based on ‘Dororo’ aired in 1969 and was produced by Mushi Production. The animation was done in black and white, running for a single season of twenty-six episodes.
