In a recent legal development, a former Disney employee, identified as Jane Doe, has filed a lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company, Nolan Gonzales (former Vice President of Distribution), Searchlight, and 20th Century. The lawsuit alleges that Gonzales began sexually harassing Doe shortly after she was hired in 2015. The harassment is said to have escalated over time, with Gonzales frequently asking Doe out on dates and implying that a relationship could advance her career.

By 2016, other Disney employees reportedly warned Doe about Gonzales’ behavior, but no action was taken. The lawsuit claims that management was aware of Gonzales’ actions but chose not to address them, as he was a valuable employee responsible for generating significant revenue.

The situation reportedly worsened in 2017 during a company conference in Las Vegas, where Gonzales allegedly pressured Doe into a sexual relationship after being promoted to Vice President of Distribution at Searchlight. It’s claimed that he provided her with drugs (believed to be MDMA and GHB) to facilitate sexual abuse.

In May 2018, Doe attempted to sever ties with Gonzales, leading to alleged retaliation from him, including spreading rumors about their relationship. Doe filed a complaint with Disney’s HR in November 2018, but the complaint was reportedly not investigated or escalated.

Gonzales left the company in late 2022 after three other women came forward with similar complaints. However, Doe alleges that she was demoted in 2023, with the company using mass layoffs as a pretext. She also claims to have developed a medical condition related to her experiences, for which Disney has not provided accommodations.

Disney has not publicly commented on the lawsuit as of now. This case highlights serious issues about workplace harassment and the responsibilities of employers in handling such allegations.
