Cinemark has struck a deal with Universal allowing for a much shorter release window between theatrical and PVOD movie premieres. Just a few months ago, theaters BLASTED Universal over their PVOD release of Trolls World Tour. Now those same theaters are happy for any CRUMBS the studios are throwing their way in light of the streaming wars. Expect this to be the “new normal” going forward, and don’t expect any billion dollar box office hauls anytime soon. The STUDIOS now dictate if and when movies get released theatrically, not the other way around.
