From the IGN article…
“Deadline received a statement from Netflix saying, “Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
Daredevil is the third Marvel/Netflix collaboration to be canceled, leaving Punisher and Jessica Jones as the last remaining series on the streaming provider. Both have new seasons on the horizon: The Punisher will return sometime in early 2019, while Jessica Jones is currently in production. But considering Daredevil was Netflix’s flagship Marvel series, the fates of both Punisher and Jessica Jones look grim. We wouldn’t place your bets on either show getting renewed following their upcoming seasons’ debuts in 2019.
Iron Fist was the first Marvel series that Netflix axed, and the news came not long before Daredevil: Season 3 premiered in October. Luke Cage was canceled a week later, the same day as Daredevil’s premiere. Fans were optimistic about Daredevil’s future after showrunner Eric Oleson tweeted on November 16 that he had pitched Netflix on a potential fourth season of the show, almost two weeks before the official cancellation was announced.
Daredevil: Season 3 ended on several cliffhangers that teased where future seasons could go, hinting at both a future for Bullseye and possible inclusions of X-Men mythology. With the Fox/Disney merger on the horizon and slated to go into effect in 2019, it was unclear how or if the X-Men and Marvel worlds could collide in future seasons of Daredevil, though now that speculation is a moot point.
These Marvel cancellations come as Disney is gearing up to launch its own competitive streaming service, Disney+. That service will offer its own Marvel series, including one featuring Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, who was recently confirmed as really dead in the present MCU.”
