“Comics will break your heart,” is a famous quote about the comic book industry often attributed to Jack Kirby. We talk about our own experiences in the comic book industry as people who chased the New York graphic novel publishing scene and Hollywood deals… and got burnt! This ISN’T the best way to get your stuff made current year.

We talk about how our little “webcomic that could” was in the “right place at the right time” until the rules of the game CHANGED in 2013 or 2014. We saw firsthand how the industry became less concerned about SALES demographics and more focused on what demographic the comic CREATORS were.

But it’s not all doom and gloom! We talk about the resurgence in DIY, and how companies like Boom and individuals like Don Bluth and Todd McFarlane are successfully working OUTSIDE of the New York/Hollywood system. If you want anything NEW… you have to make it yourself! Hollywood is stuck making copies of a copy of a copy of far better stuff.
