1975 Japanese Action Thriller ‘The Bullet Train’ Is Getting A Blu-Ray Release


The 1975 Japanese action thriller ‘The Bullet Train’ is getting a brand new Blu-ray home video release by Discotek Media. The box set will include the original Japanese audio with subtitles as well as an English dub.

Directed by Junya Satō, ‘The Bullet Train’ was written by Ari Katō, released by Toei, and stars Japanese action star Sonny Chiba. The movie became known as ‘Super Express 109’ in some European markets.

Discotek plans on releasing the box set on November 28th, 2023, though it is available for pre-order on the Right Stuf Anime website.

Discotek Media describes the synopsis as follows,

“Ken Takakura stars as a mad bomber who plants a device on a high-speed Japanese train, programmed to detonate if the train’s speed drops below 80 kilometres per hour. The trains conductor (Sonny Chiba) must keep the train moving whilst the police track the madman down.”

The movie has been cited as the inspiration for the Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock film ‘Speed.’
